I was taught a trick yers ago by a guy whose job it was to polish the leading edges of an aircraft wing. He found that a fabric floor tile cut into a disc and glued to a pad on a polishing machine with some compound on it used to bring up the aluminium to a mirror finish. So I tried it and lo and behold it worked wonders!

Interesting, does make sense as the harder compound pad worked much better than the soft one. Just have to find some old floor carpet tiles 😅

The more time you put in to the polishing the better it will look, a word of warning though it won't retain that polished look for long unless you clear coat it. Great job though, keep up the good work.👍

That is exactly my thoughts. I had an old Suzuki GS that I polished the cases and fork bottoms, with no clear coat or whatever? the constant oxidizing was a nightmare of repolishing on a regular basis!

Great job, I appreciated seeing all the effort, it's worth it!

It is a good idea to stroke every grit in 90degree different angle. 800 horizontal, 1200 vertical etc. To see if you still have any of the previous grit’s scratchmarks.

possibly not practical , for cost and time , but given the level of effort and detail , its a shame you couldnt of had the inside of the frame and the none polished surfaces vapor blasted first .. really does make a difference - great work tho buddy .

When you rebuild your swing arm, please look into the bearings, There is 2 places, on on the swing arm and the other ones on the linkage to it and you can buy the same bearings twice and put them in the same place as the other ones and then you will feel there’s a difference in the handling, a little bit more solid, and then the YSS shocks are great, setting it up to be hard when you’re fully geared up, I’ve set mine up for a 1.2lb’s more than myself and I have the shocks are a mix of 10 and 15 weight oils +10% And back in 2018 I put on a hydraulic clutch pump and got matching clutch and brake master cylinders and green red and white hoses and have been riding with a hydraulic clutch ever since I’ve got the bike stripped at the moment as I’m polishing the frame and getting a whole new injection fairing from china and wiring in some 7-8 k lights and mk3 of the hydraulic clutch pump, as I have a better one that looks a lot more expensive and has a good quality finish so it’s getting the good treatment 😋🙂‍↕️😎🤣

I've always found Brasso really good for polishing aluminium and the wadding version can be useful for getting into tight corners.

That’s fair enough, with the lower one though you would risk getting grit/ dirt in it when trying to press it in place so for me I’ve always saved it till the end. That said though this thing is going to be next to no mileage so I’m not overly worried 😅

For the stand, just forward of where you put the threaded bar there is a hole in the frame. Easy enough to put a steel bar through the hole on one side, and out through the one on the other side (I just use a ~24” extension bar). Then just support the ends on axle stands. I recently bought a tool to squeeze steering head bearings into the frame. Wish I had bought one years ago!

I’ve seen a method using 10mm stud, tow nuts and to square washers that allows you to simply wind them in but to be honest once in the freezer they go in easy enough 👍

@@stoneautomotive I hate doing steering bearings as I seem to never get them right first time. The tool saves me finding a socket as a drift of the right size to knock them in!

Fantastic work, pretty fiddly, though, but it will be worth it. You I probably could have soda bead blasted it as well, The Aprillia will be mint.

Meguiars all metal polish works wonders on these frames with very little effort. Got mine up to a near mirror finish with just a few passes of wet and dry then hitting it with the polish

Shall look into that, the Autosol took tons of time and I’m sure it won’t last when the bikes in use so the faster the method the better 👍

I know a lot of it is an enjoyment factor but you must put a minimum limit on labour charges when you sell it . Great series by the way 👍.

The money side of it is well out of the window in all honestly, the project, filming and editing are a clear loss before we even get onto the time into the bike 😭 I do enjoy it and can only hope the channel grows enough for it to make financial sense one day 👍😅 Glad to hear many are enjoying the series though 😎

Nice one again. Looking forwards to the completed bike. A good tip on head bearings, use blue waterproof grease like Yamaha outboard motor stuff. Will last longer 🙂 Will you treat the polished finish? Clear coat?
