Restoration of 1951 Vincent Rapide - Part 53 - 100-Mile Shake-down test ride

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

What a fantastic first longer ride to test the latest clutch adjustment (plus a few other things).
I felt that just riding to Geoff's place was a decent test but he 'convinced' me to go for a longer ride ;)
Over 100 miles later, the Rapide got me home without an incidents. It truly was a great day out and a real opportunity to shake-test the bike. I'm very happy with the bike's performance. There are few jobs to work on and they will be featured in upcoming videos.
Oregon is beautiful in the Spring and Fall. It reminds me a lot of home. There probably won't be as many nice days left this year before the rain returns and it becomes difficult and potentially dangerous to ride the back lanes.
Buy me a coffee? ☕ 😉

    Hi guys, awesome ride out, those Vincent’s are beautiful and they seem to ride beautifully lol 😂 . I think they are amazing bikes,I just love them to bits, there’s definitely something special about them, more so than Triumphs or bessas. I’d love to ride into a one horse town like that, head to the Diner, burger and fries and a Diet Coke, oooooh yeeeeeeeeah. Fantastic video guys, loved it lots. 😎😂👍👍🇬🇧

    Thank you very much Mike for your great comments. I really enjoyed reading it. Yeah that was a fantastic ride. I never expected us to go that far to be honest :-) but it’s always great to have a wing man who knows his way around Vincent :-) best wishes, Mike

    Wow! What a treat to see a pair of Vincents cruising the forested back roads near Mt. Hood. Not a common site. And then parked side by side in Estacada.

    Based on the bouncing front end, your video title of "Shake-down" test ride seems very appropriate. It will be interesting to see what you do to smooth things out. Nice video as usual.

    What a pair of lovely old gals. Are you sure it's not the rim or tire? Could be a balance problem, had that on an old Ironhead. You should do more ride videos like this, very enjoyable to watch and listen to the engines.

  • @TheMightyGarage

    @TheMightyGarage

    Hi Wooley689, thanks very much for your advice. I think that's a fantastic point. Yes, it could be just that! There is a lot of lead balance weights on 7 spokes of the front wheel as it has 3 rim locks fitted. I'm getting a new tire fitted soon and am going to ask the shop to remove the weights and the rim locks. The old tire may also be a factor. I promise to do lots more riding videos ;) Best wishes, Mike

    Thanks for 'ride out' Mike, bike sounds good so hope you manage to 'tweak' the last few snags off the list. It must be quite a challenge swapping from one bike to another & finding the little individual differences. atb t ..

    Hehe, yes I need to pay attention for a little while before it sinks in ;) In a way, it really helps riding other bikes, so that I can compare all the differences. Geoff recently rode my Commando and said "I think your forks are not straight!" He was absolutely right but I had grown so used to them, I didn't noticed until he mentioned it ;) Best wishes Terry.

    Looks like a lovely day for a 50 mile ride, those leaves on the road look like they could be a bit slippery , did you check the function of the front damper ? It all looks very nice after all of your meticulous re assembly.

    I've been following your videos for a while. I haven't found any KZread channels which cover what it's like to own a classic motorcycle as well as yours does. I ride a 1936 Velocette Mov every week. Do you know of any other channels to recommend?

    Hi Buncho888, thanks a lot for your note. That's a great question. I tend to follow a lot of individuals who are riding or working on bikes. I enjoy Jay Leno's videos very much. They are highly-professional: kzread.info/dron/QMELFlXQL38KPm8kM-4Adg.html I also admire Loscar Motorcycles: kzread.info/dron/Fu40iu1NDgRO6dvRSC24Ww.html. But if I were to pick one of my best inspirations, it would be Lunmad! I learned a lot from John in the early days: kzread.info/dron/UUnXiy2jfJoUBg8_r8-YJw.html Best wishes, Mike

    I can recommend Lunmad kzread.info quite a character, very knowledgeable and somewhat different to MiTy, he is based in North Yorkshire and rides a high mileage Triumph T120R that he has had for years. On his channel you can watch how he repairs his old Bonnie and join him for rides around his home area.

    I wonder if that fork has too stiff springs or too much damping?

  • @TheMightyGarage

    @TheMightyGarage

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Buncho888. Yes, it could well be the springs or a combination of a few things including the springs, hydraulic damper, the old tire, wheel balancing and even the fork setup. I'm going to try and systematically go through the front end one step at a time to see if it will fix the problem. Cheers, Mike
