Restoration ANTIQUE Handcraft Powder Box
Hi! Today, the restoration of an antique handmade powder box of the 19th century. This item was purchased and found in France. The thing is unique and beautiful. I see this thing for the first time, I found information on the Internet. It's this powder box. The condition of the item is average. One part is ruined, there are dents. It's a handcrafted powder box. Okay, I'm starting to recover this item.
First, I tried to clean the surface with detergents and tooth powder. The contents of the compact are strange, some kind of cement or mortar that has petrified. I barely cleaned it with the help of a boron machine.
I decided to replace the ruined parts of the powder box with a new one made of brass. I made a copy of the primitive drawing and carefully broke it out. Next, I cut out a new brass circle and soldered it with silver around the circle.
I cut out the new drawing with a metal cutter and darkened it. Next, I made chain links and a small spoon out of thin brass wire of the desired diameter. After that, I processed everything manually.
And as usual, I conducted a test for you. Share this video, please do not forget.
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

Neat little snuff box. The spoon was a nice touch🙂👍
This reminds me of a ladies powder case that would have been popular around the turn of the 20th century and possibly earlier. My best guess is that the cemented substrate was probably caked facial powder. I just hope you were wearing safety equipment when you were using the dremel tool as arsenic was an ingredient used in face powders for some time, so the dust could still be unhealthy.

No knife this time, but you certainly BROUGHT OUT THE GUNS!!!! 😃 Nice restoration and test montage -- though, I must admit that I was expecting something akin to Al Pacino in Scarface when I saw all that white powder... 😆

The first video of his that I watched was the restoration of an old kerosene stove. Just because many of his videos are on sharp pointy things doesn’t mean they all are. Check out his video restoring an antique pistol.
Good job mister Screws beautiful restoration well done

I love when you restore unusual items
Using Ketchup to clean brass or copper objects works very well against green or blueish corrosion. Just apply the ketchup on it, put it in a ziplock bag or container, and leave it for 10 to 24 hours. It is really worth trying.

Iirc a flour and vinegar paste works much the same way, the acetic acid in those sauces seems to be the active component
Nice job Alex and great reps at the end

Nice work 👍👍👍
It's always interesting when you have to fabricate something. Sandblasting and etching are some of my favorite parts of the process. Thank you for the videos. 😎

Suns out and the "guns" are out. Great restoration.

That looks like it might originally have been a snuffbox for use with powdered tobacco. Repurposing it for exercise chalk is definitely a healthier choice.

I thought that it was a snuff box 🤔 Wrong king of powder? 😉🤣
I wonder if that was originally a snuff box or for something even more potent?

I don't know, I think it's a regular compact.
A very nice piece. I was wondering if the blue colour was paint or the result of metal oxidation. Thanks for your excellent work 👍
I have to admit that was very different and was an enjoy to see this restoration. Alex can say it has been restored to usefulness again. Good change and video. Is this a museum peice? Truly a great job. Well done.
