Glad to see you mention at the end not using really tight rubber bands due to marks and cracking later on, but just tying closed with another plastic bag. Good idea.
Amazing! My Grandmother was a resin artist many years ago. I remember being in her studio, the smells, the light reflecting off the beautiful projects..... I wish I could have spent time learning from her but I was too young. Thank you for reminding me. She would have loved this project!

Brenda Patterson Di you have any of Grandma ‘s work? I’d love to see some pictures of them. Maybe you could post them on KZread and share the link here if you do please.
Very very cool, I think you are very brave the way you just poor the resin and not even panic about screwing up your table or whatever else you get resin on, I am gonna go for it now that I know the proper tricks to actually be mess free, thanks
Thank you, Jane, for sharing your creativity! ♥

Awesome! Reminds me of process of melting vinyl records into chip bowls that I did with my mom in the 70s. Poured boiling water over records to melt them around a form!

This is great. Thank you.
I totally have to do this as a lamp shade :) Beautiful! Suggestions: We would be able to see your work when you're pouring and adding colours if you put a clear plastic sheet (like for protecting the floor when painting a room) over white paper on the table. You could totally use a cheapo yoga stretch band (you know those big elastic bands for exercising) to wrap around the vase and tie at your desired tightness. Bungee cord wrapped in a garbage bag would also work. Once the moulding container is in place, you could open the garbage bag you've wrapped it in and fill it full of marbles, stones, etc to weight it down without piling books on top. We'd be able to see it more easily in the video. :) So pleased to have discovered your channel! I'm eager to watch more videos.
Jane, I have been making these for years, they are on my instragram, they sell like hotcakes. When I make different shapes for my bowls, I use 100 % silcone caulking and make my shape. The resin peels off the silcone and leaves the shape

Hi Jane. Yay ! You are back. Pleased you are feeling better. This was a terrific outcome and such an interesting process - I also loved the resin sheet with the alcohol inks through it before you shaped it. I wonder how that might look framed up? As soon as you pick hydrangeas you dunk them upside down so the whole flower head is submerged in water for five mins, remove and shake well before recutting the stem and placing in your floral foam. They'll last for days. So great to have you back. Cheers, DEB T

It’s so creative,
Beautiful. U worked really hard. Gud gng
I just subscribed and I am about to embark on the resin train..
Not sure if this would work, but I use thick plastic painters drop cloths that come in a roll on my studio table and it is my palette when I paint with acrylics. Paint just peels right off. It is translucent and for some reason want to say 4ml thick, or about the same as contractors type black plastic bags. Love being able to cut out a chunk, tape it down and go. This looks very fun and may be my jump into resin. Thanks again Jane!!

This is my first time watching any of your videos. Truly impressed by your teaching style. I appreciate that you stick to the point and don’t fill the quiet spaces with mindless chatter. It makes it enjoyable and easy to watch. I’ve watched some videos where the person just talks nonstop. Omg! They talk about the weather, the kids, what they ate etc. 😫 This was actually very enjoyable to watch. Just a couple questions? Will any resin work? What are your thoughts on polyester resin? Excellent job on that vase. New subscriber.

Gorgeous! Instead of using elastics to hold the resin over the form, painters tape works quite well - and you can control exactly how "tight" you want it to be held.
I would use a white garbage bag so I could see what I was doing. Great idea. :) I'm about to make book covers.

They make large silicone baking sheets. Like a 1/2" lip on the side like a cookie sheet but large. I saw them on Amazon.
I have made these for many years- vacation bible school craft for teenagers......I’ve found that the best way to do these is to have a solid glass container- spray with cooking oil/spray then, drape the resin over it and allow it to fall where it will....don’t tie it, turn it over...nothing. It depends on how much resin you use as to the size of your vessel. We make bowls or tall vases. Gravity is your friend with these....it settles down into shape and lays well. Then, to keep the bottom level and useable- we lay a heavy piece of wood over it and walk away. The cooking oil is easily washed off with dawn. Easy as pie and the parents go nuts to get these!!! It’s become a tradition- right of passage to have your kid make one...funny but, it gets the kids to come so...there’s that. LOL

jessica kiefer Thanks. Yes I’ve changed up my method a few times since releasing this video. Lol. I now rub silicone over the container and do exactly what you said. Works like a charm. No more grunting trying to release it. 😂
TOTALLY WANT TO TRY THIS! BEAUTIFUL! I have an inflatable driving back roll/ pillow... wondering if that would work. I think it'll be easier to remove but I don't know if it'd withstand the weight. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring!
Cool! Always remember to recycle responsibly when you ‘toss’,folks😊
@JaneMonteith

Pottymoon we have a great recycling program here. The great thing about using a black garbage bag is that you can keep reusing it as the resin peels off nicely.
@Pottymoon
6 жыл бұрын
Jane Monteith Wonderful! I was more wondering about the plastic jugs. Here in the UK if there’s any residue of paint or resin etc in them (or plastic cups etc) they incinerate instead of recycling.
@JaneMonteith
6 жыл бұрын
Pottymoon I leave a jumbo popsicle stick in the plastic container after I’ve finished scraping out and using all of the resin. Once it’s dry in about 18 hours I can pull out the popsicle stick and any residue left in the container cones out with it. The container is then clean and can be reused. It’s very satisfying lol.
I enjoyed watching and was able to make one. instead rubber bands, I used horse clamps

Alien great idea. 👍🏼😊
You can use the white glad garbage bags, it would be much better visually having a white background, so we can see the colours better when your making the vase. Thanks!
Awesome Sauce!! When I did my Sun Catcher I taped it and found it to be just a little too thick from my square cake pan mold depth...so the silcone mat would work much better for that thinner layer!

Kellie Chasse Thanks, Kellie. 💕😊😘
I think thats called a handkerchief vase. Add a liner and put in a flower. Its beautiful.
Late to the video, but I was thinking, before it hardened completely I would cut a vertical strip off along one side so that the bottom wouldn't end up looking kind of bulky. Then I would epoxy the seam. Maybe that would prevent some cracking as well.
Thank you Jane for sharing, it’s given me food for thought, do you think using acrylic inks would work as well?
So beautiful.Good tutorial.May be a thick white compactor bag if you want to give a try on it?

Diane Koss cool. Thanks so much. Depending on the brand of resin you use will determine working time. This was around the 12 hour mark I believe.

Laura Usher I don't now. But when I did use various epoxies I bought from there. You'll have to look at the site or call them if you can't determine which epoxy release is suitable for your application. P.S. as I recall, "Epoxy Parfilm Mold Release 3 and 4" come to mind. They just might send a sample can if you ask.

Dear Jane That was a lovely piece of resin art with such an awesome colour combination. I would like to know if acrylic colours could also be used or for that matter , any other colours instead of the alcohol paints ? Will the other colours give the same effect? Will they mix well?
I might have missed in the video, but how long do you leave it spread out before forming around container. You came back the next morning, but didn't say if it was 12 hours, 24??? etc. Thank You!!! Really want to try this.

Awesome video Jane! Wondering if a white garbage bag could be used to get a better idea of the design when laying in the inks? Not sure if white heavy duty bags are available. Maybe doesn’t have to be heavy duty? This reminds me of my handbuilding vases and bowls clay days! You could make a bowl by setting the resin sheet inside a bowl. Need to try this! Thanks!

This is so amazing. So i did it! But was it difficult for you to peel it off the bag? How long did you have it set before playing with it?
Very pretty! Do you think plain old Vaseline would work as a mold release? Cheers..👍
If you get a piece of glass and put it on something to stabilize it and then put a light under it and do your pour on there the same way, you could probably see it better. Just a thought! Looks fun though

This is the best demo I’ve seen of the difference torching makes. How many hrs did u let it stay on the garbage bag to cure initially?
question: can you spray a very thin coat of say, a silicone spray or even vegetable oil spray, down first on the bag so that it lifts away more easily? Or will that completely mess up the resin and the way it sets up?
@JaneMonteith

Jekku probably. Or a mold release.
