Residential corrugated fibre cement roof install --- BIG SIX -

This Eternit roofing can be installed quite quickly over 2 days on the weekend, providing you have 5 blokes and a load of money!! 6 blokes including me as it goes, keeping an eye on things and making sure the roof window flashings were all good.
I currently have a complaint in with the manufacturer for the roof sheets. They supplied sheets that had been produced up to 18months apart, so they were different colours!
Thanks for watching!

Really taking shape now! Can’t believe they sent 5 blokes and the gaffa to do that roof... I don’t think there’s ever more than 2 of them actually working at any one time!

Did they mitre the corners? I did not pick that up on the vlog. each panel should have this. Try looking at Flexim to back up around the crap flashing. Its a great product and can be used in many a location. It is much better than mortar. With sticks all you could have glued those strips in they would have lasted 50 years and it would have saved the removal of the window.

Yep the corners were mitred correctly thank god. Just looked up that stuff, looks interesting! I'm almost tempted to use it round the other flashing on the solar panels. Luckily nothing has leaked on either roof though

@@THE-AIDEN-PROJECT I would suggest you definitely use it. It has to be dry where you put it. It can precipitate it down as much as it wants the second you finish. Go for the black. It will lighten up a little. It is worth the cost.

I love the size of that burger! Is your main contractor on a fixed price for the work? If so I think it would be reasonable to sit down with him and negotiate a discount for the work you are putting in. Of course if he is on a daywork rate for the job there is not a lot you can do. It's all looking good though nice to see the progress. Did the flashings ever arrive 😩

He was on a fixed price. In a perfect world I would have done. That would have been a futile negotiation as he was going to try and put the price up. The bloke drives around in range rovers and a Rolls Royce. Plus, there's a reason why no one likes him 🤦‍♂️

Oh the flashing came on Tuesday the following week and they was wrong again. I then went down and spoke to the manager and told him what ones I actually wanted, I wrote down the code and they still ordered different ones which arrived end of day Thursday just in time for the roofers that were coming back on Friday morning. Guess what, they wasn't the ones I asked for! I ended up with flashing for a bank of 3 with the middle one omitted. I just had to fit them. There was also a piece missing which I had to use lead for. I emailed the manager again but he ignored me. I'll be complaining to the ceo when I get some time.

I've seen some advice on cutting the corners on the overlaps with Eternit Profile 6 - did you have to do this? I couldn't see it on your images. Looking fantastic! Luke

Hi luke, yeah they cut corners off on the actual roof when they laid them. You do it when you have 4 sheets meeting, 2 will be cut and the other 2 are left. I didn't get it on film though as I didn't want to make a big thing about me documenting the build on youtube. It's pretty straight forward though and I'm confident I could do it myself. There is 1 bit where it isn't cut and sits high but that's at an awkward part round the first roof window

@@lukemackay-morris8905 cool, I've got another video on here where I removed my own asbestos sheets if you're doing it all yourself. When I ordered these sheets there was a 5 week lead time because it was coloured rather than grey. I also got different sized sheets so they lined up better on the roof but ended up with 2 or 3 different shades of black 🤦‍♂️ just be mindful of that if you order any coloured stuff

All sounds good but in reality very few people would actually be able to afford to have the job done properly as there would be so few people who could undertake the work with the required skills. It's simple supply and demand and you'd still end up with the unregulated side of building that the less wealthy or bargain hunters would use to get their work done. Building requires a cocktail of different skills from pricing and management to actually having the knowledge/skills to do the work ,and it is incredibly hard to find a person who is good at all of these. So usually something has to give; be it using inexperienced workers or not allowing enough time to do a thorough job all to still remain competitive. I'm by no means sticking up for poor quality tradesmen but i feel a lot of people misunderstand the true difficulties when you mix the complexities and just general problems of all construction work with running a business. I personally think it is rare for a builder and a customer to come to the end of a project with both parties getting equal value from the whole process, someone has to lose out on something whether it be knowingly or not. This is all just my opinion.
