Why is eave flashing on top of roof paper instead of under. Also if foam closure strip is sealed with butyl tape how would any water getting under roof get out?

  • @WesternStatesMetalRoofing

Nick, the best way to prevent leaks is too just not over or under tighten the screws. If you have a bad screw you can always replace it with a slightly larger screw. If the screws are fastened correctly, the washers are durable and will last many years. The link below explains the correct way to fasten the metal. kzread.info/dash/bejne/rKR4o8eqoLG2dsY.html

Yeah, it is important to get qualified roofers. We are in the middle of roofing and it is apparent that these roofers are not qualified to do the work of putting on a metal roof. Measurements for the roof were off. Every single screw has been over tightened so far. That equals bent metal. The guy we hired seems to have hired this unqualified crew to do the work. He didn’t even show up to supervise them. We just fired them...and now are stuck with an unfinished damaged roof. They weren’t bad at ripping off the old roof, but have left debris of old tar paper surrounding the house. What’s left of our new metal is lying In pieces covering my newly sprouted yard. The metal on the roof, barely screwed down is bent up and doesn’t even fit. It’s a nightmare that my partner doesn’t want to wake up from today!

I'm sorry to hear about your roofing nightmare. The most important thing you can do is to verify the contractor has installed many previous metal roofs and than check the references. At least you fired them early on. If they have a contractors license, file a grievance against it. It will give you tons of leverage to get your money back. Here's a video that may help other folks out in hiring a qualified contractor. kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2lmo5KodbG2h6w.html

Are you getting what you paid for? Too many consumers neglect to do their due diligence and have this mindset that all trades are the same in qualification thereby getting the lowest price becomes the most important thing. If you took the lowest price then you are probably getting what you paid for. Trades are not commodities neither are you. The most qualified is the determining factor not the lowest price. Why didn’t you stop them on the first day? They didn’t “all of as sudden” do poor quality work. It started on the first day.

@suziperret did you even check if the guy that quoted you for the job was even qualified in the first place. My guess you did not and accepted the cheapest quote, Buyer be aware.

an Orangutan could do what most of the videos on U-Tube show,, wish I had the cameras and things to show how to do the technical stuff like butting a metal roof up to a wall with vinyl or wood siding or even a concrete block wall. there are all kinds of different flashings that no one shows or even make in front of the cameras. they do roofing in a show room.

Old Dave, We always appreciate feedback. Have to start at the beginning though before you cover niche installation details. A video like this cost about $1,000 per edited minute, 10K for this one, so it has to have an audience. That being said we are always looking for content partners. Where are you located? Have a video that you suggest that's a tricky install, but not too obscure?

@@WesternStatesMetalRoofing How about how to install a valley that terminates into a field of corrugated metal? Or how to install a transition strip in a field of corrugated metal? (There's a depth differential, so the standing seam and shingles strategies don't work.)

@@WesternStatesMetalRoofing This video is fine for the average retail DIY rock ape(like me) that's doing a simple install. I learned a bit - and I appreciate it. As for 'old dave' suggesting hard-core roof porn, go for it mate, get up there in most weather conditions and make a free professional video without looking like an orangutang. Anyone that thinks they can do open heart surgery from a youtube video will learn the hard way. Anything more than a lean-to on a garage I would suggest paying someone for their knowledge and getting it right. Good video, thanks from New Zealand.
