What does it mean to reset your home? Well, a home reset is when you get your house back to what I call “baseline clean.” It means that all your possessions are back to where they belong, and your space is functional and workable. Even with the best daily practices, every once in a while our home needs a reset. This Home Reset is split into 8 steps to make it easy to follow.

Best tip I've learnt this year, for putting away random clutter (Step 8) ask yourself, "where would I look for this?" For some reason I can always answer this so much quicker and easier than, "where does this go?"

When the house becomes chaos the first thing I do is clean the kitchen because I realised it is the epicentre of everything. When it's messy, we cook less, end up getting takeout, feeling blah and low energy and ultimately reinforcing that cycle. When the kitchen is clean, things start to run more smoothly. That's been my experience anyway! Always starting with the kitchen, and if that's all I have energy for then that's ok

I typically will always do laundry and dishes first just because once started the dishwasher and washer/dryer will run itself. I find this saves me time and is multitasking in a way. While the dishwasher and laundry run I will then vacuum, clean counters, put away other things left out, take out trash, etc. On days I don't have a lot of cleaning to do I will run the washer/dryer or the dishwasher and go for a walk while those are on.

What I've learned things that make our house clean and clutter free everyday are 1. Declutter, declutter, declutter having less inventory is key 2. Keep counter and surface clutter free 3. A place for everything and everything in it's place and my family knows where things should go 4. Having a nighty reset like clean dishes, counter, sweep/mop the floor, put things back, clean mirror and counter after brushing my teeth, clean shower on my deep conditioner days. 5. Morning routine made bed and put dishes away before head to work 6.Saturday laundry/grocery/cooking day every thing is usually done by noon I get the rest of the weekend to do fun things with my family. Takes me a while to create a habit but now I don't even think about it and I like wake up to a clean house every morning when I get ready for work.

Putting my clean laundry away is my downfall. Last week I timed doing it and it took me 6 minutes and 30 seconds to separate my laundry by person and to put away my clothes and my husband’s clothes. My kids’ clothes are tiny and we don’t hang them so it only takes a second to toss them in a cube storage bin. 6 minutes. Now I tell myself that I can spare 6 minutes before bed to just put it away and this has really helped me!

I've just recently been given a cane to walk with and feel like I can't do most house cleaning. I think it's because while I'm doing one thing, I look around at the hundred other things that I need to do with my limited energy and I get really frustrated. I've been watching your videos and they are very motivating. This list of 8 is a lifesaver! I start at the beginning and if I start to get off track doing one of the tasks, I get focused again and keep going. When I got to the end, my house was reset--even though it took me much more than 2 hours because I had to take rest breaks when I got tired. But, when I'd had a little rest, I went right back to what I was doing. I'm not a multi-tasker, I'm a one-thing-at-a-time kinda gal. Jumping from one thought to the next while I'm doing something else that I should be focused on just makes me tired. Multi-tasking is a myth. It just means that someone can hop from one task to another very quickly. I get in so much overwhelm when I do that. Your list has allowed me to focus on one job at a time and have a real feeling of accomplishment at the end of the reset!

Had a second ankle surgery a few months ago, and while my husband has been amazing in keeping up with laundry/dishes/cooking, we still desperately need this reset! I’m back to 100% weight bearing in two weeks and this is top of my list!

Kallie, I really loved this method! I get so overwhelmed, and this step by step was just the right thing. I think starting with clearing the garbage is key because it's easy enough that I don't get overwhelmed--like I can do just that much. But then I'm up and moving and so it makes it easier to tackle the next step. Just wanted to say thanks!

  • @1Lightdancer

    @1Lightdancer

    Жыл бұрын

I agree - this is a great Bumblebee for avoiding overwhelm - and when beginning again! Starting with a garbage grab is especially good when things have gotten out of hand - when I've been busy, or as one friend says, have 'run out of spoons!!' And doing those 1st three steps will make a visible difference in any space - even if it's just one surface and a trail!! I make my bed when I get up, and wash sheets ~ once a week, so that's already done, and aim for washing dishes in AM or evening.

You are absolutely right about Step One. I am amazed at the difference emptying all the waste baskets and picking up price tags, wrappers, tissues, etc. I have always done this once a week. Now I do it nearly every day. Takes 3 minutes and lifts my spirits immediately. I have a big, rambling rancher with 8 waste baskets. Three minutes and all that trash is OUT of the house. PS I have people in my life who empty their bug kitchen trash can only when it's full to overflowing. I empty my normal sized kitchen waste basket after every meal prep and service (maybe once/day and more when the kids are here) and always again at the end of the day, right after I shine that sink! I find that your videos are validation of many of my recently developed tasks and routines. I do it here and it comes out there! Enjoy your channel.

This idea of a reset is simple. However, my house is not. I have been in this house for 38 years. I am dealing with the surface cleaning, but also my mother's things, my mother-in-law's things, my things and my late husband's things. I am not where I want to be but I'm getting there in spite of dealing with colon cancer. I enjoy your intro with the 2 little kids. Little children and dogs always bring cheer to my life and I say there's 3 things to do every day (when you can): 1. Kiss a baby 2. Pet a dog and 3. Say thank you to a veteran. Keep up the good work with your videos.

If I find dishes or something that belongs in another room, I move it to that room until it’s that rooms turn. It doesn’t take very long at all! I hear you. I have depression and ADD so basically a cycle of chronic motivation deficiency, stress and getting overwhelmed. I never learned to clean like this. My mom also struggles to keep her place clean and we had a lot of pets in the house growing up and that definitely changes the standard of clean. But now that I've moved out and I work a very stressfull job, the smallest things get me overwhelmed and my brain just shuts off. This video is god sent. I was looking for a while to find exactly this a step by step that doesn't show tidy apartments getting it's surfaces and windows cleaned but e everything that happens before that as well. I'm also changing the steps as I'm listening to her because I know my ADD brain won't be able to follow the steps in that exact order. I hope you're doing ok and I want you to know that just taking 5 min after having a morning coffee/tea to gather trash and dirty dishes will already make a huge difference. Also j just recently got a dishwasher after not having one for about half a year and that alone had made a huge difference in the amount of dirty dishes and actually using the kitchen to eat something proper.

It seems so simple but was incredibly helpful! It definitely prevented me from getting distracted. Did this order today right after watching, and with the help of a good audio book, I never lost steam. Now I'm sitting in my chair enjoying my clean house. 😌

Your sentence about if you don't have kids you might be confused about why furniture is moved around the house made me giggle. My kids are grown but I can so relate - forts with the couch, trains with the chairs, and houses with boxes all require moving furniture. Just so true and funny!

My husband and I work at Renaissance Faires during the warm months, and after every single faire we have to do a reset. We bring so much stuff with us. Costumes, tents, bedding, cosmetics, camp furniture, coolers, food, etc. the house explodes every time we go to one lol

Great tips! My weekends are my longer cleaning days. I like to make sure laundry is done, dishes are put away, meals are prepped for the week and I make out my calendar for the week. All of this sets me up for a productive work week without stopping because I ran out of clothes to wear of food to eat. Being deliberate about your tidying is the best way to live a calm and happy life. I feel very uneasy when I visit peoples homes and see clutter everywhere!

It's an identity. It's a very powerful thing. A name. Like words have meaning. We speak things into existence and so to change a name is low key creating a new person or a better version of yourself!

So I've been watching you for the last few weeks and 1) I love you. Period. You speak to my soul 😂😂 And 2) I'm pretty sure you know what I need in my life right at that moment. I just had my in laws come into town for a week and haven't gotten a chance to clean, or watch my motivational videos (which is your channel lol). Today I finally have time (in laws went home) to watch my videos and clean and BAM this 2 hour home reset pops up 😂. Seriously, I'm pretty sure you know my life lol. So I'm here to say THANK YOU for all of these videos ❤️

I would personally put a load of washing on first, because that takes time and you want as much of the day free so it can hang outside and dry. A I’d tackle everything else while the washing is going. ☀️

I often find step 8 overwhelming. But what's helping me now is giving myself permission to not have to re-home all the things at once. Instead, now I spend 2minutes a day working on it. If I get in the zone, I can spend longer, but a minimum of 2mins every day. And slowly chip away at it. It takes me weeks to get through the bag of stuff - but I DO get through it. Previously, it would seem so overwhelming, I'd just shove it in a corner and it would sit there for months and months.

My trick is to load up the washer with clothes, put soap in, etc but set the timer to have it start at 4am. Then when I get up I’ll switch it to the dryer. Depending on how much is going on in the morning, I’ll fold it & put it away at night. Then load up the washer again at night. Helps keep it from piling up!

Great trick but I don't have a washer where I can set it to start at a certain time. For me, I just start laundry as soon as I can in the day.

Did a sort of reset today. Still a little ways to go but looking so much better already. I was sick for three weeks with a cold. When mommas sick very little gets done. Can’t blame my husband because he farms 2000 acres. He helps around the house a little bit, but he never does laundry or deep cleaning.

I've been experiencing heightened depression for a few months now, and you are so right. It's really difficult to find the motivation to tidy or clean. It's a daily struggle. But I like that these tips are fairly easy to tackle and it's not a huge time commitment. For areas that need more attention, once I have the basics out of the way I can spend more time tackling those areas.

i get up about 4am, when i do the "electric" stuff, laundry baking vac, but now i find i enjoy staying up all night to do chores cuz no one bothers me. as long as i sleep in my joggers & t i can sleep during the day, btw, grocery stores r empty in early am. great for quick shopping. from 10 to 4 streets are usually safe so i can sleep, and night crime diminished since old woman in window routine started. i put an old wig on a coffee can in the window with hidden camera.

I loved these eight steps. I would add this one thing I do within one of these steps...restocking. I literally take a few minutes twice a week or so and "restock" items that are low. Toilet paper, paper towels, bathroom paper cups, qtip dispenser, dog biscuits, bottles of water in fridge, weekly vitamin container, check the tissue boxes, etc. I find this keeps everything running smooth because if I don't restock it, it rarely gets done. Have a great Mother's Day everyone! ❤️

Game changer, so obvious but never thought to do it....carry a basket for flat surfaces!!! Instead of my usual, pick up item, find spot, return and repeat which takes forever!!! Tend to it later, accomplish surfaces first to actually complete the task.
