Reservoir Rebuild: Icon Vehicle Dynamics 2.5" Shock Service

Race-level shocks are built to perform not necessarily to last. If you beat on your truck off-road and don't just visit the local malls, in time you're going to wear out the shock oil and seals... and if you boogie down hard enough you may even damage some of the shock components like the shaft or reservoir hoses. Fortunately you don't need to replace the shocks outright; popular options from all the big brands are all serviceable including King, Fox, and Icon.
Here we bring back to life a set of reservoir equipped 2.5" diameter shocks from Icon. These Icons are now ready to be reinstalled on the Tundra they call home.
If you've been racking up the miles and are due for a rebuild, hit us up:

I cannot get my hands on icon fluid. Can I use any other brand fluid like King shock one? Are they compatible?

Yup, you can get away with using any other brands oil as long as it is similar weight/viscosity.

@@ShockSurplus Thank you and appreciate it. Mine has not been serviced for almost 8 years. I think it is overdue. What happens if I keep driving like this? I know the performance will go down. But is there any safety things that could happen with no servicing the shock very long on those rebuildable shocks?

The longer you go the more likely you will need to replace more parts. Once the wiper seals go they can no longer polish the shafts which leads to pitting, and when the wear bands are gone, the pistons will score the bores and chew themselves up.

35-50k miles is pretty normal for mostly street use, however the more often and the harder you drive off road the faster they will need service.
