Rescued emaciated pregnant mare gives birth to amazing foal

Violet was extremely thin, riddled with lice and heavily pregnant when she arrived at World Horse Welfare’s Hall Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Norfolk in March this year after being rescued from a field where two other ponies had already died.
Despite her terrible condition just three weeks later the little piebald mare produced a filly foal, who was later named Rose. It was obvious that even in her own emaciated state, Violet had given Rose everything she could during her pregnancy.
Rose proved to be much stronger than might have been expected, given her mum’s poor condition, but she did need some additional support during her first few days.
World Horse Welfare has four Rescue and Rehoming stableyards across the country. In addition to Hall Farm in Norfolk there are yards in Somerset, Lancashire and Aberdeenshire. Each has now reopened to the public and you can find out more about Sponsor a Stableyard here - bit.ly/38UVmgD

Dear God! How awful! Who would put a pony in such a dire situation left to fend for herself? Who would put or leave a stud in w/ a mare in that condition? Sad! So sad!! So, so SAD!!! Pitiful for that poor pony. It was also sad that she had to be clipped, but on the bright side it showed what a pretty little mare she is. And, then - she had a beautiful little foal that looks just like her. THANK GOD, you rescued mommy so both could live!!! May God Bless all people who rescue HIS creatures, big & small.

I will never understand why people bother getting an animal but are unwilling to take proper care of them and loving them. They are living beings that have feelings just like we do, wanting to be loved, feeling pain, get cold and hot, hungry and thirsty and can get sick just like we do! Violet and her foal are beautiful, thank you so much for taking Violet in, making her healthy again, giving her a chance to recover and showing her love and compassion! ❤️❤️❤️

I think with all animals there's the fantasy-versus-reality of having them. The person who pictures how "cool" they would look walking down the street with a beautiful dog on a leash (or in their purse, LOL), then in reality there's poop, shoes chewed up, barking at all hours, escapes, vet bills, and more poop, always the poop. I grew up wanting horses my whole life, but now I know it's never going to happen unless I somehow get rich. I have my Breyer statues, I have KZread, and I can always go pay to ride someone else's horses.

I long ago lost count of how many times I’ve heard ones who obviously care about animals, but instead of calling them “someone,” or “he,” or “she,” call them “it” or “something” as though they’re just objects without feelings. So bless you!

What breed of horse is she? She is gorgeous and it’s horrible that anyone could treat an animal that way. I have rescue dogs and it breaks my heart knowing what they went through before I got them. Each one has a unique story and many unanswered questions regarding 2 of them. My youngest is a Pomeranian who was very malnourished, covered in fleas with very little fur, and had been abused and didn’t trust men. She and I bonded very quickly as she realized that I was helping her, got rid of the fleas and treated her to kill the eggs and any missed during the multiple flea baths, giving her access to food multiple times throughout the day, giving her a cozy bed and lots of love. She quickly became my baby and surprised me with how much she acted like a human baby and toddler following me around like my shadow. She even begs to be picked up like an infant or young toddler. After a lot of love and work a year later you wouldn’t have recognized her as the roughly 10 week old puppy who didn’t trust anyone and would try to kill our much older and larger dogs if they came near her while she was eating. She quickly became the Alpha dog and in our family pack the hierarchy was me, my daughter, her, my husband, the eldest dog Jasper, the youngest male dog Max and the other dog Finn she ignores completely and pretends that he doesn’t exist. My husband who didn’t want another dog at the time can’t imagine life without her and is constantly amazed at how different she is now. She is also the most intelligent dog I have ever known and she doesn’t think that she is a dog. She can problem solve, communicate her wants and needs and can be very vocal about it. She definitely tries to talk and will tattle and complain when she isn’t getting her way. And yes she throws temper tantrums. We discovered her ability to communicate within days of her joining the family and her vocabulary exploded after that. She will throw a fit when she realizes that I am getting ready to leave the house especially if she isn’t coming with me. She will try to stop me by hiding my clothes or laying on top of them forgetting that she barely weighs 10 pounds and can easily be moved. She screams and cries tears and gets depressed when I leave. When I return she throws herself at me cussing me out for leaving without her and then plasters herself to me demanding tight hugs as she presses her body to my neck and shoulder grabbing onto me with both front legs to prevent me from putting her down. After a few hours of this she will suddenly snub me completely and plaster herself to my daughter or husband for a few hours. One of her favorite places to be is on our bed because she can play with her toys without another dog (Max) stealing them. She loves to tease them with her toys showing them off and pretending like she is going to drop them to the floor so they can play with them too, but she quickly takes them out of reach and hides them under the blankets. She is a mess, but we love her dearly even with her crazy antics.

Some people acquire a horse, or several, and they want to have them, but then they discover that they are more difficult to care for than imagined. I can imagine that the owner provided food, but with anemia and a heavy worm load, the won't be good nutrition no matter what. When they began to recognize that they had a problem, they reached out for help. They surrendered an animal they most likely loved, but couldn't cope with (financially, physically, emotionally). It's HARD to admit failure. HARD to seek help. The former owner did reach out for help. From what I heard in this interview, in the beginning the owner wanted help, but the rescue pointed out what help Violet would need, and helped the former owner recognize what her limits were (I think it was a woman). If all a person like this gets is contempt, then they may *not* reach out for help if they need it again. If they have the love to give an animal, and a horse is too much, it might work to redirect their love to one or two sterilized cats or maybe a couple of pygmy goat wethers. I like to think that most folks with too many animals, or even one animal they can't properly care for, do have a heart in the right place, but despite the will, there isn't a way. Understanding and love helps them listen and learn and avoid a repeat performance. Contempt and hatred won't help them to see their situation clearly. I can still remember a small 1 acre "farm" we drove past each day for 2 years. The yard was surrounded by an almost 8 foot stone fence. The owner, with his dozens of goats, horses, donkeys, sheep and whatever else, just kept making the fence taller so that by the time he passed away, his one-acre was literally 5 feet deep in muck that just kept accumulating. Do-gooders kept trying to take his animals from him, but were very disparaging. Shortly before he died, he met someone who *understood* him and helped him start to find loving homes for his animals. While his land was still a mountain of muck, he began to understand that he could see his animals go to loving caring homes where they would have gone to slaughter if left until after he died.

They both have medicine hat markings. Native Americans think they are special and somewhat magical. Wonderful that they were saved. I hope they both find good homes as soon as possible.

I think they both qualify as what Native Americans call a "Medicine Hat" ! Very prestigious ! White muzzle, war bonnet . . . blue eyes even better !
