Rescue beavers building a pond in my yard

Комедия

Sawyer and Finn teamed up to turn a favorite mud puddle into a pond. Beavers are excellent excavators.

    When I lived in So. Illinois, a friend had a 'problem' with beavers building a den under his floating dock on a small lake. Over the course of several days he repeatedly pulled the woody debris out from under the dock, dismantling the beavers' work. Finally he came out one morning to find that they had worked to put an end to his intrusion by building a dam across his path down to the water!

    I love these stories. So this guys terminology is wrong, if they're in a lake they not building a dam, it's a lodge! They're building a 'home' 🙂

    It appears they have a common understanding of the project they are engaged in; the darker one is consistently shifting material, the other one seems to be checking the plans and site boundaries.

    I didn't even know they dug ponds! I thought they only dammed streams and let the area flood. This takes it to a new level. I wonder if they're naturally good at spotting places with poor drainage...and if they'd be willing to accept payment in veggies and wood.

    Humans also have innate knowledge and instincts we just don’t notice. From the moment we’re able to move stuff we’re organizing and building, people like to collect things especially things they may not immediately need, not only that but we want a lot of stuff. The concept of greed is built into us even if we don’t know the word just yet. Kids see stuff they want, they’ll steal, horde and store stuff where they think others won’t take it. Much like how a beaver is compelled to build a dam and if needed an entire pond, people are compelled to take and store things, build to store that stuff and practically sleep on top of it to keep others from wanting to take it.

  • @cryptbeast3222

    @cryptbeast3222

    They kind of do. Part of it is innate but it's the parents that teach them how to do it properly. They feel the urge to build and dig but it will always be off and structurally incompetent. Beavers learn a lot from their parents. A big reason why human raised beavers don't tend to fit in with truly wild ones.

    The behavior is instinctive, programmed into their DNA. Same as migratory behavior. What’s even more cool, specific times and locations where food can be found are also in their DNA. But then came us, no matter where the location is now, most likely we’ve already destroyed it.

    @@parryyotter Dear Parry Most of those beavers are mature and big enough to go back into the wild, she's just a money grubber who is making big bucks off of keeping the beavers around for way too long. She knows better, she just wants those KZread clicks to rack up the bucks for her at the expense of keeping the beaver for a lot longer than they should be kept. She abuses the beavers for profits. A full grown beaver does not belong in her home or yard, and we both know that. She exploits the big beavers for cash. She's a fake that covers it all up with having little beaver around. You're a fool to fall for her chicanery.

    They are such sweet furry workmen, bulldozing the muck into the design that they were born with in their heads. I love the little sounds they make! Such a peaceful video, just the sounds of the water as they move through it. If they have a system for working together without getting in each other’s way - well, I’m impressed! Once again, I am flabbergasted that humans once trapped these intelligent masterworks of nature for stupid fashion. How their close-knit family colonies must have been devastated as one after another family member disappeared! It makes me cry.
