Replacing Veloster front speakers

Here's a quick video showing the replacement of front speakers in a 2013 Veloster Remix with Dimension 8 speaker stereo. The passenger mid woofer was buzzing so badly you didn't even want to use the stereo. I replaced the woofers and tweeters in both doors with Infinity Kappa 60.11cs components. Because the sound is EQ'ed from the amp, I didn't use the Infinity crossovers.
For info on how to remove door panels, this was a good source - • How To: Hyundai Velost...

I never understood why Hyundai chose to put such a delicate set of speakers in their Velosters, I love mine but I'm considering doing this to mine when I have the money to do so. The dust caps have fallen off of my passenger side door and I also think the rear drivers' side speaker also has this issue. I love the quality of the rest of the car, which is why I'm very confused why they'd go with such a quick-to-fail system like these Dimension speakers. Anyway, wonderful video, nice and insightful, thanks a bunch!

I know, old video, but since I'm doing this (and thanks to the walkthrough removing the speakers) the problem is, that the factory head unit has no built in amplifier. It sends the digital signals to the factory amplifier( under pass. seat) as SPDIF connection. The whole system is tuned by Hyundai for a specific sound with a specific signal and only works for their factory setup speakers, that's why aftermarket speakers sounds like crap, even if they are higher quality. Even if someone replaces the head unit, still have to buy a cable kit and various other audio parts to get the thing working and it will not sound the same and there will be all kinds of issues with the sound, like no fading back/forth, not loud enough, cracking noises, missing highs and lows etc. (ask me how I know) . So basically , either find 2 ohm speakers to replace the door speakers (you're basically trying to find crap speakers for premium price) or gonna have to disconnect the factory amplifier completely and also buy a new head unit as well as a new 4 or 5 channel amplifier. So either keep replacing these cheap speakers with newer speakers (99% of speakers on market are 4 ohms) but still wont' sound the same or buy hyundai OEM, which will blow out again (ask me how I know). OR Completely disconnect this whole system and go as I'm going right now: -New receiver (apple carplay, sirius, android auto etc etc) -New amplifier (5 channel, to add the subwoofer) -component speakers /tweeter system front doors -full range speakers beside rear seat. -8" subwoofer at the subwoofer in the cargo area. 1. Remove (or just disconnect) factory amplifier 2. Replace head unit. Run 4 RCA cables (assuming the new head unit has amplifier output) to the location of the new amplfier (also run the amplifier wires for power) 3. Either re-use the output wires from the factory amplifier to connect the speaker wires (there are info on the net which color is which) or run new speaker wires from each speaker (lengthy work, lots of cable tucking in and hiding, but it can be a safer bet) . 4. Also add a kit to retain steering wheel controls /backup camera etc.

Is this the case for a 2014 turbo model? 8 speaker 450 watt. My passenger side is busted and I’ve been wanting to upgrade a smidge anyways. Do you think upgrading the driver and passenger door speakers to like an alpine 6.5 (S or R) is worth it at all? I don’t need crazy bass. I’m just concerned that the stock amp ain’t gonna work well.

Reading this now as I want to do this for my 2015 Veloster turbo, I have the dimension system as well. I know I’m late to this comment, but moral of the story is have a professional install a worthy system and equipment??

Thanks so much for the insightful video. I also have a 2013 Veloster with the Dimension 8 speaker stereo, and you've installed the exact replacement speakers I've been considering. Now that's it's been almost 5 months, how have they worked out for you? The factory amp isn't a powerhouse, so I'm really hoping that the low RMS range of the Kappa series along with the low impedance value will really help to preserve as much of the original power as possible. At this point, I'm not interested in replacing the factory amp. Is that what you ended up doing per your last comment? I'm looking at the 60.11cs model for the front and 62.11i for the rear for reference.

If you use the FM or Sirius tuners you'll be disappointed. They sound surprisingly bad compared to other sources. You really need to either stream your music or use the USB inputs to get good sound. If you do that, I think you'll feel no need for an amp. Don't get me wrong, an amp would make an improvement for sure, but the factory system is good enough for us to not keep upgrading. Actually, it can sound pretty punchy for an almost stock setup. FYI, I also replaced the center front speaker which was very easy and makes a difference. We didn't do anything with the rears and honestly I don't think it's worth the effort. I'd also recommend selecting "Dynamic" under sound settings. Good luck!

many thanks for the vid, I'm one of those ppl that (just!) went back to the dealer under warranty to replace both of the passenger side speakers (woofers only) and in my research, I kept coming across that ohm-age issue. How do we resolve it? I like my HU and would really not want to replace it.

The veloster stereo is not that good. You may want to upgrade it to get a better sound. I'm looking at other stereo units for my veloster.

Hyundai made poor choice of their sound system. Even the subwoofer is not good.
