Replacing The Pinion Seal On My Jeep TJ

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I tackle replacing the leaky pinion seal on my Jeep Wrangler TJ. My axles are Dana 44's but this should be fairly universal for others as well. It's not a very hard job if you put it all back how it came off.

Don’t Dana 44s use shims, Unlike the Dana 35 which have crush sleeves? So is the marking of the bolts necessary if the bolt can only be torqued to a limit?

No I dont think it is. After Reading your comment I did some more research and you are right the Dana 44's only used shims not crush sleeves. There is a lot of misinformation about that and it seems like thats what I read. I was also in a rush doing this right before a trip to Windrock so that might have had something to do with it.

The nuts are a one time use and made to be that way to stay tight.. setting that pinion preload with nut is very crucial with a crush sleeve as not only does the nut stay tight but the bearings have the proper preload... If you had a crush sleeve eliminator you could just then tighten the nut to torque specs as it wouldn't over preload the bearings in this instance... I would keep an eye on that as now you have done it... good luck

Thanks. I had just swapped to the dana 44s and didn't realize. Another commenter brought it to my attention too.
