Welcome to Wheelin' with Wally
This is a channel that is centered around a Jeep TJ "Wally" and it's owner. On the channel I cover all kinds of DIY projects relating to Jeeps and more specifically Jeep TJ's. This ranges from general maintenance to aftermarket parts installations and even full blown rust repair projects.
The channel also focuses on off-roading trips and adventures with a focus on Jeeps Badge of Honor trails with the intent to do more camping/overlanding in the near future.
A Jeep is a great excuse to travel and see the country.

Just working on getting one of these into my LJ. Glad to see you do the same thing as me and not read thoroughly. The instructions are complete garbage though. BTW, I did strip out the install stud...it lives there now :/
@@obanioncd0690 haha yeah I agree. I was not impressed with the instructions. I'm glad we could suffer together on this install though.
a motorcycle jack would go a long way with a jeep. nice platform to rest skid plates or help install gas tanks etc. love the channel, it has helped me more than you know! keep up the great vids!
@@mgregory7409 thanks man! I have often thought about picking one up just for the reasons you mentioned. But it's the classic case of I already have these tools and I know I can make it work, so I just haven't made myself make the purchase yet lol.
was hoping for a star up, to see what the vibrations were like.
@@zekeisme1 sorry. I'm not sure the camera would have really shown it. But for what it's worth I didn't notice much. It actually felt better than before I changed it but my orginal one was in bad shape.
Easily the best TJ content channel
@@ryansremark6983 thanks man! I really appreciate it.
The timing on this video is perfect. Was just thinking about my trans mount being about 20 years old, it’s definitely time to replace. Great walkthrough!
@@INTERSTATE-35-WARRIOR That's perfect! I've had no issues with it so I'd say go for it. Glad the video helped you out
Awsome video!!!
@@bernardaborita4631 Thank you!
Good video… I did TJ Rubicon swaps on my rig as well… wondering if you ever got the air connection fixed for your locker? Mine was rusted through and leaking pretty bad… Will have to replace it. Just wondering what you came up with?
@@MrRickstar321 I had to replace the bulk head fitting. I had to easy out the one I broke off and then installed the new one.

I have 33 tires but my breaks are shit I want the all lot from black magic. Should be good with 33 only? Do I need big kit or ? Thanks
@@tariklaarej2259 I'm not completely sure what you are asking? I think they only sell brake pads and then the big brake kit which comes with the front calipers and knuckles to run them. I think if you don't like your brakes it's a worthwhile improvement. If you have questions you can call their number. They are super helpful and knowledgeable
I think the shifter knob is really cool and very original😊
Thank you! I still have it on there and honestly I like it more than the stock one.
Thanks mine comes in this week 2001 TJ
Awesome! It's nice to have
very relieved to find out this is for a banana and not a gun. Because the most dangerous thing for my foot and leg I can think of is trying to grab a gun while wheeling. I mean, in a jeep off-road, you'll never hit anything you're aiming at unless you're not moving at all.
Luckily the only thing this would do to your legs is pump it full of extra potassium to stop cramps. 🍌
I was sold until I heard the price. $100 for two small pieces of metal? Come on JCR, you’re better than that.
It is pricey for sure but I do really like it. I got their door panels as well. Haven't installed them yet though.
@@WheelinWithWally I have JCR rock sliders and they have been solid. Everything is so expensive these days.
@@TrailExpedition yes it is. But hey, my gladiator build is moving along slowly at least. Wally will be back in a few weeks and that big expense will be over. Hopefully by this time next year we can do some gladiator trips!
@@WheelinWithWally looking forward to it my friend.
security first! safety third!
Can't wait to do more to this build. All of this extra space for activities!
Safety first!
Absolutely!
nice job!
Thank you!
Nice job.
Thanks!
Glad to see you did this. I’ve been wanting to put them in for awhile and I’m happy to hear you had a good experience
It was well worth it. Price is high but the product is good and the customer service is second to none. Highly recommend them if you think you need a little better stopping force.
This is certainly a project that I have had on the back burner, great video!
Thanks man! Really glad I did it. It's pricey but makes the jeep a little less scary in traffic on the highway on those long road trips.
I just finished installing the same kit. Amazing instructions and amazing quality all around. Great customer service too. I did american iron ball joint deletes at the same time
I almost did that as well but I think they were out of stock when I did it. The brakes are great though and the customer service is above and beyond!
Your link for the black magic site isn't working.
Also just ordered the same ball joint tools as you. Was quoted 1200 just in labor, I'm also doing axle seals, steering and brakes while I'm in there. Thanks for the video. I'm also a member of MOJO
Thanks, I updated the link. No problem for the video! I'm glad it's helping you out and hopefully saving you some money. I appreciate you supporting the channel especially as a fellow member!
Wow, really sorry to see Wally in such a bad way. When you smashed down on the gas tank skid I thought maybe that was going to be your issue, didn't guess it would be the diff's. Any idea what the route cause was? One positive for you, at least in the US you will be able to get parts fairly easily and find people to work on Wally, in the UK these days there really aren't many people willing to work on TJs. Anyway, hoping repairs go as smoothly as possible and best wishes from the UK.
Thank you! I'm not completely sure what caused it. Yeah parts and work are not hard to find here it's just a little expensive. That's a bummer about the UK. How common are TJs over there? I think possibly when my drive shaft broke in the previous video it slightly loosened the pinion nut and then it worked itself off on the highway.
@@WheelinWithWally don't know numbers, but unless I go to a Jeep event I can drive around for months and not see another TJ on the road.
@@eversleyowl well atleast you are one of the lucky ones! Does that make them pretty valuable over there?
My switch was not getting power so I traced the wire back to the engine bay and there was a frayed purple wire. Re-spliced that wire and boom! Fixed my problem Hope this helps someone else
Awesome! Thanks for commenting the tip for others!
this is actually kinda one reason small though, why i dont like wranglers, or cjs they seem to rust a whole lot worse than the others.. but then my j10 76, was 10000000x worse than yours but still... i got a roll bar off a cj5 in the jy.. and i could rip it right off the tub didnt even have to bring tools.. dont even get me on the frames on those Tjs and stuff that just turn to dust
I agree. Love the vehicle hate the rust issues.
My 1989 Wrangler is blowing hot air out of the vents while the heat and air are turned off. Any tips?
I’m replacing my shifter on my jeep wrangler with a eight ball
Nice! That's a classic
just get another used axle that matches gears a go!!
Ouch man! I know the feeling of having the rear differential explode while driving but not on the highway! Yikes! AOAA looks like an amazing place and I can’t wait to get there. Get Well Wally, just another excuse to keep upgrading!
Haha it was definitely an experience on the highway. AOAA is awesome I highly recommend it! Thanks
ouch!!! I am guessing the pinion nut came off because it probably was apart at one time and reused.. The pinion nuts have a 1 time use.
I'm also thinking that's what happened. I'm just guessing but from all the wheeling and the drive shaft breaking the day before I'm betting it helped loosen the pinion nut.
Let us know when you will be at Holly Oaks! I would love to meet you there if possible!
Everything is up in the air right now. The jeep is still down currently. So I'm not sure if it will still happen this year or not.
That was an unfortunate ending to what looked like a fun day. 😕 The silver lining in that gray cloud is that you can now regear to 4.88 or 5.13. p. s. collaborations are fun and usually beneficial to all involved
Yeah that wasn't my preferred ending that's for sure. I was going to go 5.13 but the shop kinda talked me out of it because the ring gear is cut so deep they said it would be a little weaker. So 4.88 it is
@@WheelinWithWally - I'm not trying to talk you out of 4.88s because they will serve you well being that you are in a flatter part of the country but what that shop told you is an old "wives tale". The same thing used to be said about 4.88s. I've been running 5.13 Revolution Gears in my LJ for going on 5 years. If you think about it, no reputable gear vendor would sell them if they were unreliable and warrantied often. Yet they all offer 5.13s for TJs. Even 5.38s are available but those only fit in TJ Rubicon D44s.
@@long-jeep makes sense. I did also read that 4.88 is a little nicer to daily as well. But it's to late at this point the gears have been ordered lol. I think I'd be happy either way though. Thanks for the info
That sucks that you made it out of the trail and broke down on the way home man. Still a great video and was a really cool collab with you and trail expeditions!
Thanks man! It's definitely a shame it happend. Plus side is it forced me to regear so that should be a nice upgrade. Downside is the jeep has been down a few months and the cost has eaten into my trip budget for this year. Glad you enjoyed the video it was a fun one to make
Such an awesome trip minus the ending. We need to nail down dates for Windrock.
Jeep goes into the shop in a few weeks
What wheels are those and what’s the offset?
They are 15" fuel covert rims. I believe the offset was -19 and backspacing was 5.25
@@WheelinWithWally thanks
Watch your fricken leg man!!!!
Great video!
Thanks! It was a fun day
Damn man I’m glad Alyson said to bring the extra drive shaft lol.
Lol wait until you see the next video. It gets worse
Would a chop saw and medal blade be worth investing in for this? Seems that would have helped. Turned out great. Nice work and thanks for sharing!
Oh yeah that would probably help a bunch. Thank you!
i LOVE Rausch Creek. I haven't been out there since 2011. My god the time flies. Great looking Jeeps guys! I just found your channel. Did you mention you're from Ohio? I'm near Cleveland. Any decent wheeling around here besides SOR?
Thanks! Glad you stumbled on the channel. Yeah I'm in the Dayton area. As for wheeling I've not found anything here. I take every chance I get to go out west with my Jeep.
What brand skid is that under the tranny? Does it cover the oil pan too?
Yep it covers both. Here's a link for it mountainoffroad.com/collections/skid-plates/products/copy-of-tj-oil-pan-transmission-skid-plate-04-06-4-0l
I finally made it into a video! 😅
Haha sorry about the wait! I've still got videos from last year before my Moab trip ready to go up after these two come out. Hopefully people enjoy them so the destruction of my TJ was worth it 😅
@@WheelinWithWally no worries, just giving ya crap 💩
I really appreciate your time and effort! Im learning alot
That's cool to hear! I'm glad these videos are still helping people out. I learned a ton doing it too because I had no idea what I was doing. I could probably do it way better this time but I'm really happy with how it turned out and I'm glad I stuck with it.
I’m definitely a TJ guy. But I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and I know for sure the Gladiator build will be awesome and creative
Should be a cool project
are you still using the rock knob?
In the TJ? Yes I am
Hope the build goes well, but as a TJ guy I'm guessing there will be little crossover with a vehicle that is not even really sold in the UK.
There will still be plenty of TJ content. I have a bunch of videos already scheduled of the TJ coming up. I won't be doing aby real off roading in the Gladiator for awhile either so I will still be using the TJ. There will just be occasional videos like this as I upgrade it.
Hope the build goes well, but as a TJ guy I'm guessing there will be little crossover with a vehicle that is not even really sold in the UK.
I found the channel due to the TJ build content but I am also looking forward to seeing the JT build develop. Nice install and use review for the Bulletpoint products.
Thanks man! Appreciate you sticking around all this time. Hopefully the channel and videos have improved from when you first started watching
More JT stuff! I might be biased though. Also BulletPoint is great. I have them in all my Jeeps and always recommend them for others.
Haha that's fine I am biased both ways now. You'll definitely be seeing more JT stuff coming. I probably won't be doing anything big like a lift until sometime next year. But I'm going to start doing a of the smaller/comfort things now. I'm considering making a rear seat delete soon now that it's warming up. Thanks for watching
