Always use non synthetic oil as your break in lube. 1st 500 miles then drain and fill with synthetic. The reason is it will help seat your rings which happens in the first 500 miles.

The major machine work is easier and usually more cost effective to leave for the machine shop. The small details at the end and stuff like break-in oil are often overlooked costs. The major cost is usually "while I'm here" which includes a new clutch, flywheel ring gear, starter, alternator, etc.

Thanks for making a straightforward and detailed video man. I just got my first Jeep XJ after having nothing but older Fords. I can see why these things are so popular! They're nimble little bastards. Mines a 96 xj 4 door sport, 4.0l with the ax15. Eventually I want to restore it to factory condition, but for now Ill be dropping around 7-8 grand for rust repair and restoring the drivetrain. These xjs are the shit!

I’ve watched your channel and videos for many years now… I even rewatched a lot of them just for the entertainment. I don’t speak or comment often..but I’ve seen you do dang near everything on a YJ except, rebuild the differentials and rebuild a transmission. Other than that you’ve pretty much done everything. You need to do a frame off build on a YJ. All new wiring harness, build a Super35 and Ultimate 30 ( I’d be glad to explain those in detail) new fuel and brake lines, then all the other stuff you’ve already done, except this time you build a performance I6 and you’ve done so many 4.0’s and even a 4.0 stroker.. you need to do a 4.2L with a 4.0 head swap with either a big carb or EFI throttle body like Holley Sniper 4 barrel… big cam, brown dog super mounts.. Clifford performance 4 barrel intake manifold, banks header and exhaust, Griffin aluminum radiator, electric fans, and modify a 231J with the Max Upgrade kit. I know it’s expensive but you just build it over time like the rest of em… from the bare frame up. Hope all is well Dale. 🤙

They used brass freeze plugs. I had to replace the harmonic balancer. I added a radiator filter. I switched to Red/Asian Car Radiator Fluid from Walmart. NOW, My ZJ's radiator is leaking and I'm also switching it to an all Aluminum Radiator; so, I really have to switch to the Red/Asian Radiator Fluid, to avoid electrolysis corroding the radiator from a steel engine and aluminum radiator.

It's more expensive to buy a new engine than for you to rebuild one. This is from my experience so it differs from one person to another.

If you want to be sure of what you have, rebuild it yourself. If you don't particularly care, or don't have the skill/room buy a crate engine. Both are good ways to go.
