Replacing the CV joint on a Suzuki Jimny

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A quick video guide on replacing the CV joint.
If you have the standard vacuum hubs you will need an E10 Torx driver to remove the hub.

Just replaced cvs on a gen 3, holding the half shaft vertically in a vice and a good hit to the casing did pop the circlip easily for me. No cutting needed😊

Hi Sir, may I kindly submit your some questions? Why did you cut old cv joint? If it’s kept in place just by a circlip, could be possible to separate the two shafts just by pulling? Why it’s not convenient to fill al the “cup” with “waterproof” grease? Why the replacement kit comes with new kingpins as well? Do they wear? Aren’t they quenched and tempered? They does not move at all… I undid lower king pin in order to replace it with an adjustable one. When I pulled it out a half liquid grease came out (just that side). Does it mean driveshaft seal is leaking (grease mixing with diff oil)? Diff oil level seem just 1 millimeters below filling plug. What do you think about adjustable kingpin? Thank you in advance.

As I said in the video, none of the techniques for getting it off by releasing the circlip worked for me, so I just cut it off. The new CV joint is already packed with the correct amount of grease so ists not possible to add more. The repalcement kit doesnt come with new kingpins, I just repleaced mine as they wear over time. Adjustable kingpins are a waste of time. Just change the bearings when they are worn out and add a shim if necessary. If you joint is leaking then the driveshaft oil seal is leaking and should be replaced.

When driving it, it is hard to tell is been done. However in the MOT test brake efficiency it goes from a just pass 40%?? to a good 70%

My Jimny's seal is leaking. would you recommend just replacing the seal and top off the differential? or dismantle the whole thing?

I would recommend finding out what is causing the oil to be in the joint in the first place. The large "seal" on the back of the Swivel joint is not a seal, it is more a dust cover and there should not be oil in the joint, it is a dry joint normally. You will have worn Kingpin bearings or worn wheel bearings or a damaged CV joint causing the oil leak.
