Replacing Blade on Woodland Mills Portable Sawmill. Tips for Replacing Portable Bandsaw Mill Blades.

Ever struggled to get the blade replaced on your Woodland Mills portable sawmill? Well I struggled for a while too until I learned these tricks. Check out this video as I go through the steps that I use to ensure that the blade gets replaced quickly and safely. With some simple steps you'll see how easy it is to avoid misaligned blades and the resulting jumping off of the blade from the guide wheels. Nothing more frustrating than ruining a brand-new blade by having the blade jump off the guide wheels on the first startup of the mill. If you're watching and you have any questions about the techniques I'm using to mount the new blade, don't hesitate to ask in the comments below. Happy milling! Here we go!

Good video Sandy. I didn't know each blade may require the wheels to be realigned, but it makes sense when they are welded they probably all end up differently.

I find it helpful to take my level, which can reach whole diameter of both wheels at once (120cm) - their outer faces, and press against driving wheel (outer side of the wheel protruding the most ). Checking against idle wheel outer ring from both sides - when they are parallel, or inline (my level touching both wheels outer rings) it is pretty much it. After that just checking is it in centre by turning it by hands and checking for blade any kind of movements. In the process I am checking are each wheel parallel or inline with clutch outer face as well. Much easier than turning the centre bolt and wandering what is happening.

Thanks Sandy. Really nice videos you are making. Still I can't seem to get the alignment right. It goes one way or the other, no matcher how little I align it in and out. Any advice? Hm126, first blade change.

Does the blade pop off completely after you try rotating the band wheels by hand or do you just see it moving forward or backwards and stop before it pops off?

I assembled it over two days but my guess is that it's a solid day two days to get the track set up and leveled and the power head all unboxed and set.

I can NOT get the blade back on. It popped off. When I put the blade on, it is nowhere near that easy to put on. I've been trying to put my blade on for the past 90 minutes. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated. I have no idea what to do.

Sometimes the left bandwheel (when looking at it) doesn’t move completely when you untension the bladebusong the t handle. Give the bandwheel a few hits with with your hand to free it up. It should clearly move left to right freely with your hands when you take the tension all the way off

Are you able to resharpen the blades? Do you do it, or get someone else to?

I haven't been able to find anyone local to sharpen blades and so I normally just replace them. The cost is about $25/blade. Not sure what they would charge me to sharpen.
