For a hopeless DIY screw-up like me, the three most dangerous words in the English language are "Easy To Install". I have an Andersen sliding screen door out of my back deck right now that I am trying to pop the old rollers out of and it is basically telling me, not in this life or the next, dude. Professionally made how-to videos and real life situations are always radically different.

LOL. One of the big problems I always run across are that the video demos are like this one - demos done on spanking new items with company people who know exactly how to do what they are demonstrating. So everything fits like a glove. What they don't show is what us average joes face - 15 year old doors that are slightly bent in various places, the wheels cracked, the inside of the doors full of debris and dead bugs, and then the whole unit simply cracks and breaks into pieces when you try to pop it out because the plastic is so brittle. Then you get to fish around inside trying to get the hunks out. Or, if the unit is metal, it is all corroded down, the screws won't come out, you need a flat head screwdriver and a hammer to jar it loose, putting dents in the area around the screws. Then when you pop the new piece in, you discover the screws either are slightly too small or the holes are stripped and the whole thing won't tighten down. And you don't want to use Lock-Tite or superglue in case you need to change it out again in the future. Ah, the life of a DIYer! ;)

I just did mine with rollers which were likely from the Civil War. The plastic was really brittle. The top rollers were a piece of cake, just like the video describes. The bottom rollers were a bit more difficult. The key thing seemed to be compressing the tabs with run vertically up along the bottom rollers. They are not visible in the video...hidden by the little wing tabs. The wing tabs on mine just split in two. I had the door with the bottom tipped up, so each roller fell into the door just a bit once the vertical tabs were compressed. This wouldn't have happened if the door had been horizontal. I worked the rollers out with a bit of fussing.

To remove the bottom rollers on the After 1991 doors, instead of prying them out like the video shows, stick a thin screwdriver, like a jewelers screwdriver, into the round holes on the bottom of the door next to the white roller plastic. Fish around until you feel the locking tab and then push it in while pulling out the roller. The roller will fall right out without damage.

I have an Anderson deck door with screen installed in 1991. I cannot ever get the screen out of the track to take it to get the screen repaired, let alone address replacing the rollers, which I think I should definitely do. What is the part # for the pre-1991 screen door rollers? Are there rollers at the top? Thank you.

My Andersen patio door has a groove in the upper track so a roller with a groove (concave) will not work. I can't find any type that will work.

My door is only a little over 2 years old. I will try adjusting, but don’t think I should pay for replacement rollers, since I can’t believe the rollers last less than 2 1/2 years. But I will try adjusting before calling back. How long should the rollers last?

My bottom roller is broken, and inside the hole mostly. I'll try to fish it out somehow, but I can see it won't be easy like the video!

Joan Baumgartner - For a screen manufactured after 1991, the lower roller part number is 1997310 and you will need two of these per screen. Let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

I don't believe the following is completely true "if manufactured before 1991, it will have springs instead of rollers”. My Andersen 8' sliding screen doors was made in 1970; they both have rollers on the top with rivets mounting the rollers to the frame. Do you have a replacement for this style?

Oh, I'm sorry.... I thought this video narrated "if manufactured before 1991, it WILL HAVE SPRINGS instead of rollers" if so, that statement is clearly NOT TRUE! Seeing you have supplied part numbers to other questions... can you provide the part number for upper rollers manufactured before 1991?
