Replacing an AC Compressor AGAIN! - 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 AC Compressor Replacement - Clutch fixed!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In todays video we replace the AC compressor in a 1998 Ford Ranger with the 3.0. I had replaced this years back when selling the truck. The AC compressor in our case still worked when the clutch engaged but the clutch terminals on the compressor kept going out. I was having to wiggle the connection to get it to come on. I had replaced the pigtail hoping that was the issue but unfortunately there was an internal issue with compressor. I got the Compressor replaced under warranty .
Tools we used are as follows :
AC Manifold Gauges
Vacuum Pump
8 MM ratchet wrench and socket on a 1/4 ratchet
13 MM ratchet with extensions
15 MM wrench for Belt tensioner
30 ounces of r134a
One thing I forgot to mention is be sure the new compressor comes prefilled with oil. It should state it on the package or in the information. If it doesn't be sure to add adequate oil based on what the system suggests.

Just fyi don’t let advanced tell you lifetime warranty is a one time deal, worked there for 2 years I can show you the policy. The replacement part is covered for the remainder of the original warranty, which in this case is lifetime. If you bought rotors for example which have a two year warranty and swapped them at 18 months, the replacement rotors would still be covered for 6 more months.

Yeah and the compressor is a one time replacement apparently . Atleast that’s what they said after they swapped it

You shouldn't put any tools or bolts on your battery unless your looking forward to buying a new one

Where did you get the replacement pig tail from? Do you have a part number or something to identify which kind I need?

Be sure to check the compressor you bought and if it was prefilled. Some are. Even when prefilled since there is some line loss as well I usually put an ounce in even if its prefilled and haven't had any issues. Even with this one the problem was electrical connection and not the compressor itself. If you want to get very particular (and none of this is an exact science of how much oil was in the old one or what is standard on every ranger as it runs) you can dump out what is in the new compressor as well as the old, measure, and add accordingly. There is a few sites that give you specs on how much is estimated to be in each AC part. Compressors usually have around 3 ounces in the last few vehicles I touched so having 1 more ounce in the system which may be 10% is peace of mind for me.

Have a 99 ford ranger ac had a leak they put dye in could not find leak said it was probably the dryer and would cost 1500. Does that sound right seen video for another vehicle dryer replacement seemed easy and part cheap

Dryer replacements aren’t usually very difficult. On this vehicle the drier is on the passenger side of engine bay and looks like a can and has two large lines going to it . I changed that previously on this truck when it was leaking directly from the bottom of the drier . Over time it had rusted straight through . After I replaced the drier the ac compressor was found to be leaking when running directly at thr seems that it bolts together into one unit . The drier is for sure a diy job on this truck if you have wrenches big enough :)
