Replacing A Broken Front Spring On My Celica

Спорт

The Celica had failed its MOT on a broken front spring. Since they were lowering springs it was necessary to buy a new set to replace both front springs.

Excellent video! My car failed mot this morning for a broken spring. Your video has shown me what to do. I have followed the instructions and have the strut out and awaiting a new spring and rubbers. Local garage wanted £90 for labour alone! A big thank you my friend!

Best of luck. If you are doing the back springs as well they take a lot more wiggling to get out.

@@ttxela yeah , i m not too worry, i love that car it's my first car really , got it second hand for peanuts, love it , front wheels drive, safe and fun, huge boot with the hatch, dependable, i drove all across Europe from UK france to switzerland to Italy 150,000 miles total with it and just no fuss , fingers crossed i hope it will keep on going for some more time, cause i don't have the money to replace it, i did myself the breaks, clutch now the struts, belt sparks plugs, coolant, oils changes , and off to the races ! :)

@@ttxela nope , i believe not more than it should ? just a little of course but I top it up maybe less than 1/4 -1/8 litre every 10000/15000 miles between 2 oil changes , it's the 143bhp vvt 6 manual i not the TS and I use Castrol 5w30 fully synthetic, I did the injection cleaning with 2 Cans of Wynn's, I run it with 98 octane petrol only . No ecu tweeks, original denso plugs, just new mass airflow sensor as one cyl. bank was running lean at 150,000 miles sometimes the idle is a bit high at 800rpm when it's cold .

Awesome job, I have 2 questions tho, 1 since it's been four weeks and you said you replaced your old ones prior to that, I must ask are the new springs better than the last? I need new front ones and am debating the amax £50 set or your new brand vogtland or the direnza for £150+. And 2nd did the damper strut spin when loosening or tightening the centre nut?

This was 2019 so a while ago now. I previously had TRD springs, one of which broke. I think the Vogtland ones were better.

I've hit a snag Nathan......my new spring arrived and it matches the one off the vehicle. But they are 4 coil springs instead of the 5 coil springs that you have. My spring compressors cant do it because instead of the two coils you have them attached to.....I can only attach to one coil and it won't compress enough.....any suggestions?

@@ttxela They are standard springs. I've worked out a way to do it now. But very little room for manoeuvre. One compressor had slight contact with the base and had to be knocked out of position after tension was released and they had to be attached at an angle. Very careful with compressing! Thanks again.

@@fostexfan160 yes, that sounds familiar, you have to position them carefully even with 5 coils.

I got it all of ebay. The link to the boots is here; www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Front-Shock-Absorber-Dust-Cover-Boot-Kit-for-Toyota-Celica-OPA-Prius/173624212456?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 The seats are a little harder to find, I bought the last ones the seller had, they do come up though. It's probably worth trying a main dealer as they still carry a lot of spares for the Gen 7. Also US based ebay sellers seem to have them if you really struggle.
