BAD Toyota Front Shocks? Try KYB Struts| 2000-2005 Celica | DIY Part 1

My 2000 Celica OEM struts were totally shot. I am replacing them with KYB struts so i can get as close to the OEM ride comfort as possible. I built a spring compressor to make the strut spring replacement a little easy. Below is a link if you like to make one. It's pretty simple and easy to build one with leftover angle iron.

This is a lot safer that using the spring clamps. User can control the tension by either add or remove weight from the handles and it's even compressed. Even when it's not, you don't worry about spring popping at you. Worse can happen if you lose your balance and fall on your ass.

How about torque specs and alignment, bro?

I got an alignment after everything was completed. Not sure about the torque specs. I just tighten them on feels. If you're using the regular socket wrench, you'll know that is tight enough.

I used the original oem springs. Just replacing the struts only. Dont get the complete chinese ones. The springs will be to stiff causing uncomfortable ride.

@@mosthated8190 maybe you can track down the original springs and switch them back if possible. If the ride is not so bad then just leave them alone.

It will not interfere with the rear alignment. It will affect the front. Once everything is done. I did get 4 wheel alignment.

Try to lift the rubber boot exposing the metal rod. Sometimes it has a flat spot allowing you to stick a wrench in it. Using an impact driver to lose the castle nut will also another way.

Some tie rod you can insert an Allen wrench by the nut to keep it from spinning.
