Do you know the pivot bolt size? I have a yz250 and my bolt came off and I need to replace it but can’t find the size dimensions for the bolt anywhere

It stops the brake from spreading apart and braking if you hit something like a branch etc.. and no it's not necessary to have one.

what is the purpose of the brake wire?

Prevents the brake pedal from bending.

It also prevents grass, twiggs , sticks etc from being trapped between the pedal and engine casing forcing the back brake on.
