Great series, thanks again for sharing. Great tips about the status of the the rack and pinon unit and how it should be evaluated. Can you talk about how the suspension and handling has changed since you have started all these updates?

Sure! I’ll add a little more color on that in the next few videos. And maybe I’ll summarize what I learned with a final video. So far the bushings and ball joints made the biggest difference driving over bumps and tightening up the steering. CV alces were a close second, improving smoothness of acceleration. Rod ends, and sway bar end links made minor improvements.

@@JungleCatt That's exactly what I needed to hear, I think I knew intuitively that was the order importance but nothing beats the seat-of-the-pants experience.

Did you have to buy a thinner head wrench to get the inner rod nut loose? The flats on the nut seem so thin

Ideally that’s what you need, is a really large and thin pipe wrench. But the inners are not mean to be bolted down that tight so hopefully you can get by with an imperfect fit like I did.

Man, glad to find this playlist. QUESTION: Before you restored all these parts did you have "alarm" or "traction control" issues being set off? Auto braking / steering of the vehicle? I replaced the wheel sensors first, but I am still getting pretty frequent alarms and corrections. The passenger tie rod ends are pretty bad so i am guessing that is the culprit. So, I think if restore all these things that you have gone over it should hopefully cure the issue. In other words, I think the traction control / braking system is functioning normally, but the parts being worn cause premature actuation of it / them. Any thoughts?

I wouldn’t think that normal wear in any suspension / steering components would cause traction control warnings. Replacing the wheel sensors is a good step as well as examining the abs ring inside the hub (see the wheel bearings video, I think I point it out). Other than that, your problem is likely related to some other system that’s periodically malfunctioning (or failing because of wiring that’s loose for example), which is in turn causing the car to proactively “turn off” the traction control or stability control out of precaution. Try searching your specific observations on ih8mud.com’s 100 series forums. If no luck you can can make a detailed post there.

Do you happen to know the diameter and thread pitch of the inner tie rod?

Im not sure about this. You would need a special tool to torque it… I tried to match what it felt like coming off before folding the locking washer. I would think it’s something moderate and not super tight torque specs. If anyone else knows, please add in the comments!
