There is an alternative way to do this without messing with the hoses and coolant. Just remove the battery and the battery tray and access the bolts from underneath the hoses. Your way does make it easier to see and reach the bolts, though. This other way just avoids the coolant hoses. Either way works. Thanks for the video and for explaining about matching up the lines and also mentioning to sand that post (had to do that too to allow the sensor to fully seat).

Thank you replaced mine and it fixed my problem.

Excellent Video. Followed it exactly. The hardest issue was removing the Hose clamps, as they were upside down. It took me 3 hours, but with the clamps in the right spot, it would have taken easily less time. I suggest putting newspaper underneath the vehicles, as quite a bit of antifreeze did come out. I did clean up any spillage in the engine compartment as well. for ease of use in my vehicle (2005 ford escape), I did remove the air handler from the filter, which all of 2 minutes. It also allowed for better access to the proper clamps. Just a point of note, I had my car in neutral, with blocks holding the car in place. The replacement switch had to also be set for neutral (it has markings for it).

My replacement sensor was deceptive, no white marks so I thought to align it with thwe "D" on the sensor? Glad I watched this video since I hadn't noticed the faint outer line before my install.

I have a problem: When i put car in 1gear with stick, it slips, and i cant go forward. But, when i put car in "D" everything is fine. Car shift smoothly thruu all gears including the first gear. In 2 gear is ok Revers is fine.There is nothing bad. I change transmission fluid. Did you know, what is a problem. How to solve this. Thank you very much

If ingress of water/fluids is so terrible for the transaxle range switch, why oh WHY would you place it directly under the THERMOSTAT HOUSING FORD!!!

Would this cause it to not go into reverse? It will occasionally catch and you can get it to go but reverse is the only one we have problems with.

So I’m confused as to how to adjust the sensor and put in neutral mine was adjusted the wrong way. My shifter is on the steering wheel so it’s hard to tell what position transmission is in

That's the piece I didn't think to get off the 2000 model

This 2005 Ford Focus does not have any alignment marks on the TRS sensor. The front casing is solid plastic. You have to take it off and look from the rear to see the internal moving parts and turn it with your finger through the rear shaft hole if necessary to align enough to install. Don't have a manual and can't find any info on final alignment except one man said to snug up bolts enough that the sensor will turn by hand. Instruct an assistant to hold the key on while you turn the sensor and release the key the moment the engine turns over. Then tighten sensor and see if it will start in Park. If not loosen bolts and adjust again, If it does start put shift lever in neutral and see if it will crank up in neutral. If so it is aligned.

Does the range sensor failure cause a check engine light? Mine just started doing this, but hasn't displaced a check engine light.

Yes check engine light comes on when the range sensor is at fault. You use an under dash plug in diagnostic tool to get a code or go to an auto parts and have them read the code and tell you what the probable cause is.

But will this cause it to only crank in neutral?

Got 02 Mazda Tribute, can go down road in reverse or drive but won’t shift into 2nd gear, showed 4 and 6 cylinder misfire, replaces but plugs and coils and no luck. If I unplug positive wire for awhile then drive at times it will go into higher gears but once slop down it won’t go back to higher gear, any thoughts? Thanks

I once crossed the plug wires for coils 4 and 6 . It misfired horribly. Check your coil wire harness.

Hello, I have a question for anyone who can help. MODEL: 2001 Tribute V6, Auto PROBLEM/ISSUE: Every gear works but after a few minutes will kick into what sounds like Neutral. Once this happens it will often stay this way BUT if I turn off the car disconnect the battery everything will work again for a few minutes. I have also noticed; the Dash Cluster, the "P" and "D" are only Outlined and the "R" is missing, along with the Key is getting STUCK IN. ATTEMPTS: I have replaced the Neutral Safty Switch, all the ABS sensors, the Input Trans Sensor, Output speed Trans Sensor, and checked the Shifting cable but I'm still having the same issue. QUESTION: Could the new NSS be bad too, can I test it? Could it be "Old/Bad" Trans Fluid? Could it be something in the ignition switch? Could it be something in the Shifting Cable? Could it be a relay somewhere?
