Seen this done on our local roads, didn't last 6 months and after the first bad freeze it was as bad as it ever was. If it broke up because the subsurface was unstable you just painted over the problem basically. The edges are not properly prepared and sealed so waters going to get back underneath and you have the same problem all over again.

In ireland a council pickup filled with tar and a shovel in the back, drives up to every 3rd or 4th pothole and fills the pothole with tar and then straight after with the wheels of the pickup it drives over the tar to flatten it, it still happens to this day @corkcountycouncil

When i repair potholes i cut around with a diskcutter so the tarmac has something to key into, very time consuming though.

the last pothole had a pushed over guide post that was most likely next to a leaking culvert which causes the problem . so it was busting out next to an old patch .

And this is how you make money again and again from the same job. Funny thing is that the repair could be done properly within the same budget!

They used this system on the lane near me, vehicle must have been borrowed as it had foreign plates, filled in potholes have remained "filled in", don't know whether Norfolk CC purchased a vehicle or not but with the right crew this system works.

Also had experience of similar work - but done much less effectively. Ended up with lumps that were as large as the original potholes, made cycling miserable, and didn't last. We have just had workmen outside our house filling holes which are full of water and mud. Then they tarmaced over a drain. Sigh! Surely doing it properly is more cost-effective.

In South Cambridgeshire potholes are repaired by a socalled workman pouring a bucketful of tar coated chippings into a hole thats full of water, dust & leaf debris then walks over it treading it down with his feet, it takes the useless mutt about 90 seconds !!! Thats it folks, as he moves to the next hole & the same procedure occurs, OF COURSE THIS FIX DOSNT LAST, & IN THREE WEEKS THEY ARE BACK AGAIN TO REPAIR THE REPAIR TO REPAIR THE REPAIR ETC ETC ETC .!!! Remember, EVERY TIME THEY MAKE A socalled 'REPAIR' THEIR COMPANY CHARGES THE COUNCIL £60 PER HOLE THATS WHY THEY ARE BACK A FEW WEEKS LATER, THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE HOLES ARE & READY TO FLEECE THE COUNCIL AGAIN MANY TIMES OVER ! WHAT A SCAM !
