I agree with James Ratliff. What has to be understood here is perhaps there is not a lot of money to spend on proper teeth and so have to use what they got. Not everyone has the luxury of having access to all the gear that's why they are stick welding. And so in all fairness they have done a good enough repair. The machine can go and dig a hole. What more do you need.
@ruthbees7214
2 жыл бұрын
@@sigsauer9mm957 just for the record. When i said thats why they are stick welding i was not knocking the process. Just saying that is what they had they did a far better job then i could have. Because i am only a hobby welder. If in future you haven't got anything good to say about my welding. Or anybody else better you said nothing at all.
@ruthbees7214

Yes sig I know what stick welding is. Most welders who have access to mig will weld a bucket because it is faster. As long as you have the right gas and wire. Nothing wrong with arc or mig. I smoke lambert and butler ciggies not crack. Thanks for your comments though 👍
@noteasybeingcheesy2673
2 жыл бұрын
@@ruthbees7214 There's no qualified welder in the world who would weld that bucket with MIG. Are you just getting into welding? Maybe you're confusing MIG for Flux core? Flux core might look like MIG but there's no gas (the flux is inside the hollow wire). It's an alternative to stick welding because it can be faster. Other than that they ONLY way to weld that bucket is stick welding. You cannot use MIG for a job like this as it wont penetrate and it's not strong enough.
@ruthbees7214
2 жыл бұрын
@@noteasybeingcheesy2673 hi cheesy i am no expert in welding. I was thinking of dual shield or flux core when i said mig welding this is what i ment by it just to clear up any confusion. Thanks ruth😁
@noteasybeingcheesy2673
2 жыл бұрын
@@ruthbees7214 You're welcome, no problem. The dual shield (flux core with gas) is alright indoors (no wind to flow the gas away) and it may look cleaner. It's not a as strong as flux core (no gas) though. For structural (or anything which needs to be strong like that bucket) there's really only two ways go: stick or flux core. The only real advantage to flux core is that it can be faster (so if you're working on a huge structure it would save on costs/time). Other than stick (which is the method I would choose for this bucket) it might be the way to go in terms of cost/time on a big project. You have to also consider the advantages of the stick itself vs a gun/nozzle. Stick is 14 inches long with common diameters of 3/32 to 5/32. You can weld areas where the gun/nozzle cannot reach or even if does you cannot get a good angle or you can barely move at. Another note on this video is that there should be more beveling. On something like that bucket (it's going to support heavy loads) you need full penetration. You can't just welding the top and bottom and leave a hollow space in the middle. The stick will of course penetrate (depending on which type of electrode you're using) to some degree but on thicker medal you need bevel well. Apologies for any spelling and grammar errors in my comments. I did go to college for a little while (sociology) but dropped out after I realized I'd rather work in a skilled trade and get some excerise and see the world.

If these guys had some tools like an overhead crane, even an oversized engine lifting portable crane it would be amazing the amount of work they could get done. Great work. If I were offering any advice it would be to radius or round off the outer part of the bucket cutting edge so the teeth could get all the way onto the edge. It would give a little more surface to weld and no gap. But great job.

Yes sig I know what stick welding is. Most welders who have access to mig will weld a bucket because it is faster. As long as you have the right gas and wire. Nothing wrong with arc or mig. I smoke lambert and butler ciggies not crack. Thanks for your comments though 👍

@@noteasybeingcheesy2673 hi cheesy i am no expert in welding. I was thinking of dual shield or flux core when i said mig welding this is what i ment by it just to clear up any confusion. Thanks ruth😁

Two things,first heat the grosers up first they go on alot easier,second why are you welding the grosers on?,they are meant to be breakaway...going to be a pita to swap them when you break on 15 minutes into digging

Large scale dentistry ! 🦷🦷
Anyone see a good reason to remove the bucket from the trackhoe for this repair? Or do they just like pounding pins and rolling huge chunks of steel around in the dirt..?
Probably use for sand or mud
This work will never be ok!!

Buen trabajo. Me gusta.

I gotta say, these guys are usually pretty good considering their conditions.. but these excavators require high level welding technique. Beveling is critical.
That is not how you repair or replace the teeth on a bucket. Not only did you ruin the integrity and value of the bucket, but you spent much longer doing it. Isn't there anybody to teach these people in third world countries how to properly prepare a weld and or fix and replace parts on a bucket?? You never praise bad work or bad behavior. The people who are giving a thumbs up to this kid have no idea what they're looking at.

So much fail, the teeth are not supposed to be part of the bucket, they are supposed to be replaceable. They are the first thing that wears down, and should be replaced when worn, to prevent this kind of work needling to be done.
Когда отрезали зубья у ковша, я думал они сейчас казан делать будут ))))
Maybe some day they'll figure out sacrificial teeth that take a couple hours to replace.

How strong are those welds going to be? A domestic power supply can't offer enough amps to penetrate those parts enough surely. Plus clean the parts to bare metal. It will give a MUGH stronger weld. You have a grinder at hand already. Overall nicely planned work but Exekution leaves me tonwonder how well it will last.
👍🏻
