Same here, 70, and a lawyer licensed in three states. Most federal judges are deservingly revered. The difference is these judges were known to be staunch Republicans who have biased political agendas, rather than required independent objective jurisprudence skills, which is only why they were chosen by Republican Presidents and have brought the current SCOTUS into disrepute by disregarding known ethics rules, seeking personal gains and disrespecting the judicial wisdoms behind prior precedents.

I disagree our Patriots have lost their courage. Do a MSNBC search for the most honorable Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and you'll see this flag incident is minor and recent compared to even more serious recognized and reported abuses seeking redress by a true Patriot, Senator Whitehouse. @@TomSpeaks-vw1zp they did, which is why they gave Congress impeachment powers over the Court... but a Constitution is only as good as the people's willingness to execute its safeguards. Hamilton warned against the corrosive effect of unchecked factionalism in the Federalist papers, it's one of the reasons they didn't want SC judges elected, so they could stay above the fray--but that has been sabotaged by presidents picking justices based on their partisan beliefs and NOT so much their legal scholarship. Alito's & Thomas's opinions half the time don't even cite any precedent or law, just either their own opinions or "common sense". Beyond their corruption, they are just incompetent as legal scholars.

Politicians should not be allowed to pick Supreme Court justices.

And until there is an overwhelming demand that they (politicians) change this, things will remain the same. The problem is that Republicans and their supporters are totally fine with the way the current Supreme Court is deciding things (firmly in favour of Conservatives). And until the Supreme Court does something that upsets that particular apple cart, things will remain as they are.

It's the lack of accountability that gives these men the arrogance that they show. Were they to know that they stood to lose a great deal from their own failures (as judges in the highest court in the land) then perhaps they would not have succumbed to the lure of being corrupted as they have. I would argue that they've actually been emboldened to go further with the knowledge that the Chief Justice is either a weak and cowardly man, or (worse) just as corrupt as they are.

Under typical procedure, we might not be able to force chief justice Roberts' hand to take clowns Alito and Thomas off these cases (some kind of clown loyalty bit no doubt) so then let's get unconventional. Get congress to step in and make things happen! The US has a history of slow moving and conventional approaches to administering justice. That approach doesn't work for this time period. We need to take action on what we can and make new laws, procedures where we can't (such as the dissolution of lifetime appointments to the SC).

There is no rationale to demand recusal. I don't happen to agree, but I could see, as long shot you might seek to impeach due to flag issues. But then that would put at stake almost all the presedrnts of leading schools on the Palestinian protests. Congress can only hold impeachment hearings and make recommendations for a trial in the Senate. But without a two-thirds majority vote in favor of expulsion there won't be any change. And with Republicans having worked so hard to get this corrupt majority on the Supreme Court, do you ever think that they'll let matters get that far? The only way this would ever change is if Democrats had an overwhelming win in the next election. A win that sweeps a great number of Republicans out of office and gives them the two-thirds majority they'd need to do this. And if you think Republicans have been crying foul up until now about election results . . . Imagine how they'll react if it looks like Democrats are close to getting the two-thirds majority they'd need?

Sounds about right. This is certainly not the type of character we were led to believe our judges had when we were taught in school! I think we need to get back to that. Alito and Thomas should be made to travel to a number of grade and high schools and give an account of their character. After such accountings, teachers could then ask their students to show how these men differ from their perceptions of what an SC justice should be!

The Thomas and Alito issues need to be front and center in mainstream media until they are forced to recuse. It is just unforgivable to see such blatant disregard for the American constitution and American laws coming from our highest court, where political bias should be nonexistent.

Ive always said " if you cant control yourself in court you cant control yourself in life". That goes for the judges especially, as well as defendants. The SC used to be deeply respected and now has lost all credibility.

They're all about the "supreme" part, court of law not so much
