pandey abraham I can’t answer your question. My situation involved a clamshell manual post hole digger which required muscle instead of gasoline. My 40 year old daughter helped me dig and also her friend. So, we had a real workout which was better than going to the gym!!!

I don't believe I've seen a single video that made this machne look like it was worth about 80 or 90 bucks to rent for an hour. I think I'll stick with the post hole digger, but I might try the shop vac for easier dirt removal. Thanks!

Good video. Gives me a feel for what I'm going to be running into when I rent a post hole auger. We have a several holes to dig, so I now have info on whether I should rent the one-man auger, and for one full day, or more. Definitely won't rent a 2-man auger, which probably isn't needed for our soil (and would kick my butt anyway).

Thanks so much for watching our video and commenting. I'm glad it was informative. I wonder, though, if you'd consider another perspective on your conclusion? You'd have to have some pretty rare soil (absent of rocks, roots, or the hard-packed clay that surrounds most houses) to prefer a 1-person auger. You feel any change in the resistance to the auger rotation through the handlebars and your wrists. If it's a significant and abrupt change, like hitting a rock or root or a buried piece of construction debris or other durable junk, the handlebar takes a whack at your ribs or hip or knee. If there are two people holding on to the handlebars, there's more weight and strength to resist the torque while you get off the throttle. I'm a 6'2'' 195-lb. person, and I will never repeat my experience with a one-person auger.

You needed a digging/tamper spud bar. You use it to cut through the tree roots and bust up any rocks that get in your way. You also need a manual post hole digger to lift out the rocks and roots that you break up. I built a 16 foot by 40 foot pole barn by myself and drilled 15 holes - 10 inches wide x 43 inches deep (below our frost line) with a one man gas powered auger. It is not as hard to do, if you have all of the right tools.

Hey, anybody who is about to use such tool - have in mind that if the soil is too dry, you can do the drilling much easier if you drill just a little bit, then fill the small holes with water, wait a bit and then drill again to the bottom. It's much more easy for both man and machine!
