Billy is restoring a chateau and this is a complete rebuild from bare bones. What you are doing is practical especially with the water issues presented there.
Anna has the patience of a saint.
The project is really taking shape now. Well done Ed & Louie and of course Anna for filming.
Ed it's Mike from Chateau Sallandrouze and I am a retired contractor from the United States and we call the metal bottom and top either track, plate, or rail. And the vertical metal are just called studs. Love you guys.
Oh Anna the wisteria is a beautiful promise of spring, absolutely beautiful! Edd , trust yourself, lots of people like to give advice, maybe from other countries where standard are different ( they forget) you are a pro!! Love your work!! Love and respect from Canada 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️

Anna, I was a director at a community channel in New Brunswick Canada for a while, and I would have taken you on as a camera operator in an instant. Your shots and composition are spot on. You do such a great job. I'd hire you in an instant. Edd and Louis are so lucky to have you on their team. I have been following you on all of your projects, and look forward to seeing what you take on next.

I just want to say how much I enjoy Ed, Anna, their beautiful children and Louie! ❤❤❤
getting closer and closer! I want to see what plants you'll have in the patio, that Wisteria in this video is so pretty!
Another great job done by the dream team of Edd, Louis and Anna ❤❤❤❤❤
You and Louie are a great team! He is learning great skills from you Edd. You are a good teacher also. All the best!
I find the solution to problems you have to be exceptional….you are meeting all you challenges with such positivity
I also used metal frameworks for my renovation in Southern France and if you use the right tools to cut the rods instead of metal scissors it becomes a piece of cake. We didn't use plasterboard, but Fermacell - it's more solid, water and fire-resistant - but, of course, more heavy and expensive. I appreciate that you looked at my comments on the grounding cut-off device and adjusted accordingly. Inside the house it has not to be on sight, you can hide it behind the plasterboard (with an access trap) or inside your fuse box.
Anna, I feel for you! Filming, editing, and then downloading these 40 minute KZread videos, is like having a full time job! But I am convinced these longer length videos will increase subscriptions! All the best! Thomas!
Ed is so focused yet polite to all. Anotherwise a gentleman.
You are moving with amazing speed considering it's just a two person crew. I'm guessing you are already vetting your next location for a project.
I would have used a foam barrier between the cement and metal. Also, you should use Lexel or silicon the hole where your ground rod is. Once you close up the wall you never know what’s going to bubble through that hole into that room. Also helps prevent those nice little creepy crawlers finding a new home.

There is a proprietary plastic section for this job they cost about 3euros for a 3m length

There might be sanctions against using certain products like foam barrier on the walls due to historical preservation and damage when removing? Not sure in France but I know this to be the case in my country when renovating historic listed houses…

@@jennil664 I doubt anything in the build comes under historical protection - other than the look of the outside of the building so it still fits the neighbourhood even if everything inside is replaced.
Your in a potential flood area so metal studding is correct for reduced corrections.
Louis walking down the stairs 🤣🤣 he makes a royal entry 🙌🫶❤❤ Love the quick assembly of your walls and yes fully understand why your doing it this way…

The metal base looks good! Metal works tighter than wooden beams. You will also immediately get rid of any woodworm problem in the future...
Billy us 'restoring' places before metal bracing was available, so of course uses wood. In the Convent the more recent updates used the metal bracing, but Billy said he wanted to bring the building back to how it was originally. As an American, I didn't know metal bracing was available, so you have educated me. Looks much easier to use than wood.
Some contractors use nothing but wooden studs to build a house or appointment and some of them.Use wooden studs yes for the outside worlds and the metal studs for the inside walls
Metal studs are not used in residential construction in Canada - they are considered thermal bridges ... and when temperatures can reach -30C in the winter, you really don't want your heat drawn outside. Metal studs are used in commercial structures as they are considered more fire-proof.
I like the studd explaination that it is a difference between restoration and rennovation.
My family is going through an absolutely horrific event right now, and watching your restoration work is very calming for me. Especially Ole Lefty Edd! (Me, too!)😊
A good explanation Edd of what you were doing. Louis will become an expert from all the things you have taught him and he has learned on the way, ana that is due to your experience Edd ♥. Nice bit of camera work Anna. Loved watching as always 😘
The reason for the earth wire connection now makes sense, I was baffled by it before.👍 The metal system for your interior walls for me, makes it much easier to do than using wood. I think it's also makes for a neat and precise job and prevents the chance of ending up with rot or beetle in the future.👍
Anna, lo e your filming. It's nice to be able to hear the sounds of the guys building stuff andd talking, with the music faint in the background. I enjoy hearing what's going on! Thanks for editing that way. 😊😊
A barrier between the steel bottom plate and concrete would have been a good idea. Concrete is actually not waterproof. It will wick moisture over time and the steel will rust. Much faster than wood would rot as well. There are benefits to both steel and wood wall construction. Here in North America we generally use wood stud construction in homes and steel stud construction is used in commercial applications. I question your use of double studs at every location, especially in the middle of a sheet. Save money on cost of steel studs. It’s the combination of steel stud and drywall (plaster board) that gives steel walls their strength. Also if you split the difference of the stud where two sheets of drywall meet you save a steel stud there as well. But hey, who am I to say. Things are done differently in different countries and I understand that. Love the work you guys are doing.
Remember that furniture can be good size and you will need big openings.
Edd, great that you always acknowledge that you've made a mistake! It definitely helps viewers to learn more! I'm definitely able to visualise how BRIGHT the kitchen area will be. It's really coming along nicely ❤❤
When you put two studs together it’s amazing what they can get done 😝🍻
Here for my regular fill of Bordeaux Life! Looking great!
I enjoyed todays vlog! Cheering you on from 🇸🇪😄
I found this interesting. I, for one, have not seen this metal work for drywall. At this stage it really is taking on form. Way to go!

You’re both right. Since you asked, lol. Edd does what he prefers and Billy does what method he prefers. Using that logic whom could be wrong? Silly people 🙂 thanks Anna for filming the progress, looks good! Take care & stay safe.
So much progress! ❤
Hi Ed, in Canada we call them stud walls. We attach the plaster board also called gyproc( pronounced jiprock) We use wood or metal.
Such a well structured & organized build. A great model for other similar houses in your neighbourhood. Thank you for sharing your journey.
There is no "right" or "wrong!" as a general rule, it always depends on where you put the frame. The davantage of metal is, that it ads less weight to a construction, the advantage of wood is, that it is easier to mount heavier things to the walls. But in the end, if you feel more comfortable with using the metal frame, go for it, after all it is your house
@TomTomicMic

Metal is more uniform than wood also but I wish it was a little more sturdier, still wood for me!?!
The word you may be looking for is stud - metal stud.
I really enjoy these longer videos. We get a better insight into what you’re doing.
Ed, how will you protect the pipes running behind the plasterboard? I keep envisioning folks hammering a nail in the wall, or drilling a pilot hole.....
@BordeauxLife

We aren’t running any pipes in the stud but I suppose you have to know where the pipes are in the stud before drilling a hole
One man and his castle! Edd mode! ❤
Wow Phillip, it shows that you are a professional. Love the shots of the Wisteria Anna...one of my favourites.
You have given me ideas for next summer when we complete our home build. 3 years it will take us to build a home about the same size.
As Louis walked down the stairs waving I said “Hey Louis, the man, the myth, the legend”. Sorry Edd 😂😂😂
I believe it's just called framework. We use metal for large buildings with lots of walls. For houses depending on where it's built, wood is used.
You guys are cracking on fabulously. The green waterproof plasterboard is a good idea in case of any flooding. ❤
So funny Tickling feather x
Hi Edd it’s all coming together, you work so hard .sending love to you all Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
So interesting to watch the walls go in. Love Louis!
The house is really coming on now well done
Loving all the videos you put up can’t wait for each one. Fantastic job making amazing progress guys and Anna.
I like to see Louie do well with EDD. SO HE CAN RESTORE HIS OWN CASTLE WITH HIS BRIDE IN FUTURE 🎉 HE CAN LEARN ALOT SO HE CAN BUILD LIKE EDD🤩
Ed & Louie … you guys have done so much in that place. I honestly didn’t see the potential of that place, specially with the huge amount of water issues but you guys are miracle workers! I’ve been watching every video… and I can’t wait for the final result! And Ed please! Place some plants outside maybe a beautiful wisteria inside a big planter or maybe inside the sidewalk.
You are doing a great job I hope you finished before the wedding season start I hope you've also let out your other property if this one goes good I expect Anna will be looking for a new place for you next year who have another project in the winter
Hi Borderlife workers. Looking good, well done 😊
The walls are coming along good.
Hello there I hope you three are well today x
It's really looking good, thank God for time-lapses.
I prefer Billy’s way but understand why you are doing what you’re doing. Great work.
Hello guys, we enjoy watching you Anna, Louie. We have been watching you from just before you started this project. We would like to know if you could show us a drawing of the ground floor layout, and where the streets are on what walls. My wife and are in dispute about the layout. By the way they are just called metal studs here in the states. Thanks so much and keep those videos coming. Jim and Sandra
❤It's really coming along. I cant wait for the decorating... thanks Edd, Anna amd Louis!🔨🪛🧹
Billy is always restoring. A big difference. "The Way It Was".
Anna, you’re so blessed. Edd can do anything!
Edd,Anna,Louie my wall builders. Interesting to see how the walls are put in. A lot of measuring to ensure correctness. Busy work. Until next time. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺🍺🌹🙏👍❤️😇🌈🌞🕊🇺🇸
Great job Ed as usual. You, Louie and Anna work so hard ❤
I am unfamiliar with some of your building techniques. I like the simplicity of the metal framing and am keen to see how you finish it.
Things are starting to make sense for the uninitiated. I like it! 😉
Love wisteria!! So do bees!!😊
Beautiful tree! what was the purple tree called? Wisteria?

The metal frames are easier to construct less cutting and cost I would assume than lumber and then there is noise cancelling systems I hear that can be used. Every builder has their own preference and easier to deconstruct. I am just surprised you are starting walls when your electricals haven't been fitted to a box yet. We know you know what you are doing as you are a professional builder I think this place will be finished on target and whomever is lucky enough to rent it will appreciate all the details and safety you have put into this home. When will Anna start to do the decor design? Love the new Bordeau Life thumbnail with writing and wee wine bottle very nice.
“Edward Scissorhands” 😂 Great progress!
Love the music it suits the mood of the house. Brilliant through headphones too 👍👍
Be sure to protect the drainage pipe from being drilled in 😉

Even within countries people do things differently. Here in Australia you get metal framed houses and wood framed houses, depends on what the customer wants.
Bonjour Anna, Edd and Louis. I have no idea, wood or metal, my concern was, how will you plasterboard the walls with the thick pipes, now I know. Just so you know I never had any doubt. Bit by bit its getting there. Well, done. Love from N.Y.
We don't have stone walls here so I have never seen this metal framework you are doing for the plasterboard. Very interesting work Edd and Anna.
Great job gentleman! Coming along nicely!
That went up really fast coming together nicely ❤
Called stud and track.we normally brace the stud from the wall if not fitting a rear board or double boarding for rigidity

I think the metal construction looks straightforward and quicker than wood uprights and dwangs Scottish word for the pieces between the uprights my husband and I rebuilt a 3 story shell of a building in a historic village called New Lanark and I had to hand saw all the wood very hard work that was about 40 years ago all hand tools😅your all working hard doing a great job which teaching I think Louis will be able to renovate his own house 😮 Ann 🏴

I would have thought that there would be some kind of bracing between the wall and the metal studs, else it's just a large void, almost like a cavity wall. Could you fill it with insulation? Will there be noggins? horizontal connectors between each vertical? Or is it rigid enough without? I spent a while searching for why firemen in France cut the earth wire, and couldn't find anything, so I'm not surprised that this was in fact incorrect. Shame on the person who told you this porky pie! I'd have words if I were you!
Everything is coming along just fine.
Ed I have used the metal before, it`s a little different in the states, verticals 16 inches on center and we screw the top and bottom in so they don`t move, yours seem to just be standing in place, no screws on the studs? Metal is probably the better choice for you application, I do agree, it sure will look good once it`s all dry walled in, no more dungeon, be well.
@BordeauxLife

The studs will be screwed in due time don’t worry
I’m not a construction person but still love watching these old buildings come to life and not tore down. Curious as wether the electrical wires be neatly ran to each outlet as it looks an alien monster coming through the ceiling.😂
More progress, well done. Cheers from Switzerland!
Perhaps you could advise Ryan in his total bare bone build of his property. I know he’s having mr Moon give him a physical hand but any advice I guess would be gratefully received.
I’m learning a lot, thank you for sharing!!
4:30 I've never seen wood used for drywall structure in France, I think it's more an american thing? Every construction site I've seen in France, every house I lived in, used metal studs in drywall. 25:00 Ah-ha :) The barrette de connexion de terre doesn't have to be in view, it just needs to be accessible. It's fine at the bottom of your Gaine Technique de Logement, which will have a cover that can be opened. You're going to have your electrical panel on that wall anyway, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to make everything look neat. One thing I forgot to comment on previous videos : so the drywall is going in, I see the 230V electrical wiring... where's your low voltage wiring? Network (phone/internet/fiber) and TV. I believe you're required to have a network socket in each room... and a TV socket next to it is nice to have, a lot of people still watch TV "the old fashioned way" with the antenna connexion (not sure if it's required anymore - the way the norme sees it, the network wiring could be used for TV if you use Grade 3 network cable... I prefer to still install TV coax next to the network wiring)... If you can skip the consuel I guess you can ignore that (and hope everyone uses Wi-Fi for everything? I'm a network engineer I like to have everything wired :D), but if you must have a consuel visit, then check an NFC15-100 guide to see what's the minimum that's required as far as network/TV goes. Also might be a good idea to prepare a conduite/gaîne from the facade near the connexion boxes/point de branchement (the three boxes on your facade next to your neighbor on rue Laville-Fatin, there are three because one is for phone, one for cable, one for fiber... probably only the one for fiber will be used anyway) to where ever you want the fiber socket to be installed in the future (NFC15-100 says through the gaine technique de logement, then from there using the gaînes for low voltage wiring, to any room... or the fiber socket can also be installed in the GTL), otherwise when your tenants get internet installed the sub-sub-sub-contractor will drill the facade and install the cable the way he wants, and he may do a poor job at it.
Metal is better , more fiddly, but carry on .. well done. Love the wisteria 😊
Keep going your both doing a brilliant job 👍🤗👍🤗 Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Wird ein schönes gemütliches Häuschen, ihr macht gute Arbeit.
