Great stuff mate,I've never had much joy cleaning them so I usually just replace them, too many short journeys around our part for these modern diesel systems.Good work thanks for sharing 👍👍

Nice diagnosis Leon. Tools & equipment pay for themselves and make life so much nicer plus it's like Christmas year round. Nothing like a new toy to play with...another tool for the diagnostic arsenal. Nice job Leon and now it's a reliable van again. I'd have replaced it also without a doubt and the rope well we have the same thing happening here...makes you just say WTF.

I organise ambulance repairs in a busy service on the other side of the world to you. . We had one service garage who would clean the EGR valves, give us the van back, and then it would go into limp mode on an emergency job within a week. ALL to save a FEW DOLLARS! Changed to a Mercedes agent who refused to do that, insisted on new EGR valves, not a days problem since. Anyone with an ounce of sense will realise this modern stuff means replacement parts, not cleaning....sure clean it on your 30MPH farm truck..but with a dollar earning vehicle or life saving vehicle, replacement is the only reliable option. Unless its a Fiat..then it's not reliable at any time. Great vids, really enjoy your channel, good common sense stuff!

Me again, the EGR on my daughters Freelander was.......shagge@ completely covered in carbon....the width of the 'bore was approx half what it should have been...even just scrapping and cleaning as best I could made a massive difference in the car but it needs replacing...(Bypass if I can't clean it) My daughter will clean it completely and the inlet manifold which is just about as bad.....no matter at least she will experience the opportunity of 'trying to fix' something rather than just changing parts.... great stuff, keep posting...

Nice work Leon and your tool actually broken that gunk up around the shaft. Pretty impressive you were able to free it up. Good choice on replacing the valve as I believe you're on borrow time when the valve is cleaned. You just don't know when it's going to fail. And that other shop did a bang-up repair in using rope :(

stuzman hi mate yes it was unbelievable what the garage did with the Rope it's a nice easy tool to use the easier the better as we all know people don't realise even when they clean the EGR valve they are actually damaging the valve and it is just a matter of time before it goes again better to replace it then to get stranded somewhere again not worth the hassle thanks for watching mate

Nice work and good to see logical approach. Wouldn't be surprised if the cowboys had roped the wastegate in the hope the van owner would get them to replace the turbo. They would probably charge for new turbo but just cut the rope and reconnect the w/gate actuator.

Off the subject mate, on a vivaro if you suspect the maf is dodgy how would you go about confirming that? Unplugging the maf doesnt change how the van drives too much that I can tell, it doesnt stall when unplugging it and it's still drivable, when reading the maf on a scanner its reading high 8 low 9 g/s am I right in thinking that the van should stall or run and drive rough when unplugging the maf? I have similar symptoms when the movano 2.5 cdti goes uphill ... at the beginning only at 6th gear and now even at 1 ... I have replaced almost everything except the turbine and it goes out while driving ... ... injections, fuel pump, comerail sensor , shaft and belt sensor .... throttles, lambde probe, pressure sensor buster ... and I do not know what ... only turbo was left, but after this video I think if the EGR is working ... there is no such tester and I wonder as it is to check because delphi computer does not show whether it is working or not..... any contact number? where you are?

The garage that said it was the turbo are a total load of cowboys. They have taken advantage of the fact the owner needed the van quick and wasn't from the area to try and charge him for a turbo of which they wouldn't of even fitted if he had told them to go through with the work. polosev hi mate I personally wouldn't do it any other way because they are not cheap and if you do damage by putting too much voltage or current to it you will have to buy one even when you clean them you do damage them it's one of them things that has to be done properly or your best just leaving it as you can cause more damage trying to do something if you're having problems with it take it out and clean it it will damage it but at least it might get you going again

  • @supergeekjay

My Astra H Z17DTH had overboost code set when MAP sensor failed, fault codes can lead you astray. The live data from my sensor told me that the turbo was fine and it was the sensor stuck at low reading, this was after a new EGR which had actually failed. Live data is king, get yourself a scantool :)

@@bodgitandleggitgarage I mean when going down I block change. Going up NEVER. I'll be in 4th at 30 then slow down enough to go into 2nd before rolling up and go into 1st. Unless I know the lights will not change for a while then it's 2nd to neutral. Unfortunately, the only racing I do is on A simulator with wheel and I rarely ever block change down. Need to transfer one skill over to the real world though. Analysing my inputs I can see the result will be jerky. The advantage of a simulator, I can see where I'm going wrong and if I keep doing it, then i know I have to improve. I would still love to do it for real. Back on point. I can't see the road so I am not sure why you'd not be engaged in gear at 30. I know there are reasons you won' t show the roads and I get that.

It has been parked up for about a year I removed a lot of the old diesel and put in some fresh and replaced the battery and fuel filter but can't get it started I tried small squirts of easy start in the air intake but no joy. If the MAF sensor or the crank and cam sensor are faulty would these stop it from starting. It seems to want to go I've seen small amounts of smoke come out the exhaust but just won't fire up. I was wanting to try and get it going myself but looks like I'm going to have to get a good mechanic to look at it 🤔🤔cheers William

I got another fella to put it on his computer and it showed up that the air flow meter has 2 faults but he can’t get working on it as he is contracted to a haulage company. So that’s why I was wondering if the maf would stop it from starting. I seen that a new maf was up to £300 there was 20 odd faults and he was able to erase them all bar the maf. Sorry for being a pain cheers William

Mate..any ideas...? I got a renault master 2013 build. Today went to start it in arvo ..had driven no prob in morn and the dash reads "braking fault" ..the abs warning light on as is car with skid marks in triangle light on. So is "stop". It started and i drove it home..about 10kms away. Although the speedometer stayed on zero i could get up to about 60kms per hour...anyway, on arriving home i turned engine off..but now cannot start at all...same fault..breaking fault with same dash lights. The weird thing is that i plug in diagnostic tool and it cant read a thing...nor could the roadside assistance man's tool ..i called him out to see if he could get started but no joy... checked all fuses and disconnected battery etc and tried to restart... anyway, any ideas appreciated...esp regarding why diagnostic tool not able to read anything....could it have gone into limp mode? Do i need a special renault tool to restart?

Hi mate unfortunately gonna be next or impossible for me to guess what is wrong You will definitely need to get a scantool plugged in to see what the error codes are what I'm guessing maybe something to do with the abs System Could be something as simple as an abs sensor Could even be the abs pump I've had I've had situations where ABS pump has called the car's not to start in the past Also I've had issues with Crank senses on them as well But definitely you're going to need to get it plugged in and read some codes
