Thank you so much for this video. Today my Clio II 2000 decided that we are not going to shop. Found this video, replaced flex ground cable with new. And Clio works great again. Flex cable was totaly burned. Thanx again!

hi thanks for video im in process of getting my clio back on road after 2 yrs just bought new battery after old one kept dying ordered new alternator and service kit now after seeing this it might be earthing strap i need as never had any warning lights or issues before. but lucky enough i managed to get great deal on new alternator think i will keep it as aspare if its the earth strap thats duff i just need to check as ive worked on plenty other cars but new to working on clios

do you mean a clicking sound ?

My clios windows, wipers, hazzads lights all stops working but if i turn the car off and on again it works then it stops again. I can also hear a clicking sound when trying to operate the windows coming from the passenger side dash Any idea what it could be? Thanks

@@jlawson7101 had to buy a second hand uch module and have it reprogrammed to my car. Check ebay for mk2 clio uch

Hi, if you see any of the same errors as shown in the video then I would definitely take a very close look at that earthing strap. You'll notice on your dash there is a symbol in the middle, kind of like a box with a heartbeat and a funny loop under it? If that is lit then it's an electrical issue. You can also check the wiring in the engine bay directly behind the passenger headlight. There is a pink/red wire goes to there that can sometimes be problematic too. It's a good idea in general to go over each of the earth points i've shown here and clean them with some good quality 1500-2000 grit and protect the metal with a little WD40.

Mine limp moded for years due to wrong oil .oil change and /but esp. new Spark plugs are what you need ,it will run amazingly!!

Spike, are you sure this is six inches, it says twelve on the packet. Its six gauge.......? However, the symptoms are exactly those that my Clio is showing and I cant wait to get at the fix!

@@spiked4735 I imagine you meant disengaged! (little joke) but I bought a standard battery cable and connected it directly to the battery from the engine, and it has worked beautifully ever since. Thanks again.

It can yes because it affects the grounding loop for the whole vehicle.

Do you live near southend to help me out 😭😭 brought the car on the 27th of September and it hasn't moved from my drive since. Has to be bumpstarted every time! I changed the starter motor and still nothing, so this has to be the issue.

There could be other issues here. Have you been through the fuses (open passenger door, panel is in the side of the dashboard, also there is a fuse board in the engine bay directly to the right of the battery tray under a plastic cover)? Does your battery require replacement? Is the black negative from the battery to the chassis in good condition? You'll need to cover each of these points, cleaning up the metal and bolts on each as you go to ensure a good solid earth circuit. These cars use the chassis. I'll put together a video covering this in detail.

I’m from Southend and I can confirm Clio’s are a bastard I’ve had issues with cranksensor also the 30 amp fuse under the bonnet , the car will just cut out , will try to turn over but not fire , happened on holiday and happened again today on the school run , I wiggled the connector on the starter motor and probably coincidence but it’s just started, worrying as it has cut out on southchurch road before so it seems to be pot luck when it happens

I’m almost certain my problem is a typical Renault electrical problem as they are well known for it but for me I’ll probably need an auto electrician to test every bloody thing or a few more hundred hours on KZread

@@ethan_59 I haven't yet but just yesterday I figured the inductor coil on the key fob board is blown so just waiting to get it repaired.

Im getting issues with throttle dying out, slow speed, when it gets warm.... 2002 1.2.. petrol..

@@spiked4735 i think fuel pump, in the tank, seems when more fuel it goes away... 🤔, no going to spend too much on it.

Electricals are a big issue with this little car. Check all ground connections and plug connectors for damage/corrosion. And don't forget to check your fuses too.

If it's the same type of car it could potentially be the same issue. Otherwise start checking earth points for corrosion/rust. Most cars use the chassis as ground so any point could cause the issue. Start with the ECU and work your way back.

Earth straps are a common fault with clios especially as they age

Bought a clio 1 day ago. 2004 1.2 16V Digital Temperature meter goes max 2 stripes. Cold starts it is on 0 stripes. Took to mechanic to check Thermostat and Temperature Sensor. Sensor works. (Tested in boiling water) Thermostat was cheap so got advised to replace just to be sure. Everything on its place I start the car and it warms up nicely after 10 minutes perfectly at 4 stripes and after warming up the van kicks in. Pretty much how it should be. So I drive the car out of the garage, and after 100 meters the car doesn’t rev anymore and stalls. It shows the weird “W” with “0~0”under it. Being a non diesel it was a electric problem. The mechanic searched but was clueless. After starting it I rode it slowly and made it home without problems just a little rattle from the rear of the car (mechanic claimed to be loose exhaust). CAN this be the problem ? So first the problem was active and after it went away. Or is it when the strap goes bad it doesn’t make the car normal until it gets fixed? Please help me I’m out of my mind owned the car for a freaking day 😭

Forgot to say: Obd scanning the car gave a fault code on: Throttle body. Found this weird as the car always runned smoothly and quiet also when stationary ofcourse. The immobiliser light doesn’t stay on when turning the key to contact

@@35dd hi I've got this exact car and this happened to me a few times. In my case, my mechanic took out the throttle body and cleaned the oil and electrical contacts and the problem goes away. He suspects the electrical connection is not good. I suspect the oil causes the butterfly flap to get stuck. Whatever it is, it works

@@35dd also try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting after a few minutes. It worked once as well. Make sure you know your radio code.

@@MrMoss786 Hey thanks for replying. The mechanic found out the car had been serviced poorly. the throttle body was full with dirt and oil. Also spark plugs were in oil. Very bad. Hé cleaned everything and the car runs very nice. Changed all liquids and filters. Also the distribution belt and everything changed cost me a €600 but now the car drives well. The weird sound while stationary was because the exhaust pipe fell out off the holder so it made the horrible sound.
