Is the word you were looking for ‘cadencies’? Ren uses multiple cadence flows and speeds but seems to love that early 90’s flow rather than the more modern cadencies. It’s a natural partner for a storyteller.

Ren spends a lot of time editing and processing the sounds to get what he wants. It's amazing how he layers everything. Ren made a bit of BTS for this, he and Josh (the videographer) driving around Calgary randomly looking for filming locations. Obviously Ren has a vision in his head, and knows when he spots the right venue. Thanks for sharing your time with us.

Hey I am an older person who would never have thought a few years ago that I would enjoy hip hop / rap and this is a mix of both I think. It wasn't until I started listening to Knox Hill's reactions to Ren's music that I got to understand the genre. Knox is a wizard full of knowledge on rap and worth having a listen to. Great reaction. Glad you watch chapters 1 -8. They hit hard and helps to understand the depth of this amazing man. Kia kaha from NZ. P.s. Ren just dropped a clip saying this just went No1 on UK Itunes.

Thank you for another nice reaction Izzy. It's been emotional following Ren's chapters all week so binge watching them must have been kinda intense! It's cool that you did it before reacting to this song. I enjoyed your observations. Also, I like it when you pause. I don't mean pause the music, I mean pause to think when you're talking. In these times of constant noise and a fear of "dead air", sharing silence with someone is special, and I appreciate it. With great power comes great responsibility, and Ren is truly a hero! He is using his growing powers and platform for so much more than simply creating brilliant music. Ren has said that he always had this feeling that he was meant to change the world for the better. So much that he defiantly yelled a challenge to evil into an empty room. And then he got sick… Ren has now shared the full story of his health journey in 8 video chapters leading up to the release of this song and what a journey it has been. If anyone hasn’t already watched them, I highly recommend you do. I’m glad you binged them before this reaction cause it gives a lot of context and depth to the bars. With all the chapters he is showing immense strength in sharing his story that is so hard to tell, being vulnerable and telling it because he hopes it will help others and raise awareness. And here he is with another rendition of that story, now told through music with a fire beat and delivering a message of hope. A beautiful hero that the world needs ❤️🐰🕳️

Great reaction! The way words rhyme in rap is often referred to as A and B rhyme schemes (ABAB). I'm not a rap expert but in essence in a verse of four lines 1 and 3 end words rhyme and 2 and 4 rhyme. Not always as Ren is a bit of a cheeky one who likes to go against what's expected. There is a lot more to it with double meanings or triples. Reactor Knox Hill is great to watch to get a greater understanding of "flow"

I am also glad I heard that song before some of his other heavy songs like Suic*de, or I would have been more worried about his mental state. The rhyme schemes have different patterns. There are external (the last syllable of each phrase) and internal (matching rhymes to a syllable within the phrase). Then there is a scheme where a syllable is repeated within several words of the same phrase. I don't know all the lingo. This has been picked up by listening to reactors with rap experience. Ren often will start a new rhyme scheme on the last syllable of a verse and then continue it into the next verse. It's part of the reasons his transitions from one flow to next are so smooth. is that what you were asking for?

I believe the particular sample Ren used is from the artist Moby (Natural Blues) that sampled (one of) the original recordings from Vera Hall. (I learned that from other content creators) Our Library of Congress in the U.S. is our oldest federal cultural institution, and someone made recordings of Vera and other members singing Negro Spirituals. (don't blast me people, that's what they're called). He obviously did some mixing magic to give it the sounds we hear. Ren's solid integrity when creating his music hopefully earns him EVEN MORE respect from his contemporaries. Thank you for another great reaction.

Not always what I want to hear as in the Jenny Tale but always interesting. When I first heard this yesterday I was disappointed. I know why: expectations. I suppose I just love guitar Ren more than Hip-hop Ren. And that sample, I wanted more of it like Fatboy Slim's "Troubles So Hard". I wanted more Vera Hall. Can't help you with the rap other than to confirm it is hip hop and Ren referred to it as old school boom bap. Don't know if he was refencing anyone, but it did sound a bit lije the Nas retake. Yoy could take a quick listen to the 1937 Vera Hall original Trouble So Hard to see what all he did to it. A small clip a fan took on the phone of him doing Teouble si Hard busking, was the first thing of hus to go viral over a million views. He felt like this was a full circle moment and he has always felt a personal connection to that line " No one knows my troubles but God" In the video, the limo represents his career and success. It was there at the begining when he was ejected and arrives for him again at the end. All the in between locations seem to represent waiting for whatever, answers, food, help, he's in front of a zoo also. I've seen bts of him and Josh driving around looking for cool places Can't quite express what I feel for Ren, but stunned by his talent skill, empathy, transparency and most of all his integrity. Beautiful reaction. Ren just posted this about Yroubles. It's #1 on i tunes chart . But official chart not until next Friday. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3ZlmMSzlsine6g.htmlsi=1ufQBisE-UJMmJIW

The back is a sample of Vera Hall by Moby! It’s a song that Ren mentioned changed his life. I don’t know if he meant the original or Moby version playing in the back. He added his twist of course. You Should watch Moby video too. He’s in a wheelchair. The original was actually a hymn by vers hall sang by slaves about hope as well. Love your reactions as you know. I’m glad that he found this in Canada in the snow. Everything happens for a reason so good for his body to be in the cold. Reduce whatever inflammation he has left.. cheers brother be back soon! Does jacket is a reference to the greatest basketball player that ever lived! Does that help you out At all? OK you’re not from the states so maybe that’s not fair. It’s a throwback Chicago Bulls jacket. OK then you have to tell me where your accent is from? I don’t say LA.

Okay, this is what I’ve learned. Ren did not want to use Moby’s sample. He sought out Vera Hall’s ancestors and paid them. As far as the final result; that was all Ren. He showed us how he mixed the sample on his Patreon. Hope you’re having a great day. 😉❤️✌️
