This has been really validating, I’ve gone through really similar things with my chickens this year and it’s been really traumatic and isolating, I lost my soul chicken in January, then got chicks to help with the grief and the one I was really connecting with passed from having a tumour at 7 weeks old, and it’s been a series of losing chickens throughout the year. It’s been really tough and it’s nice to know that I’m also not alone in this! And as much joy as it brings me to be a chicken keeper, the sadness is so unbearable so I can totally relate to you not wanting to have chickens after Tina passes on. Really felt the pain you went through when Ren passed, can’t even tell you how hard I cried when I watched your montage of footage that you posted on Instagram. Really hope that you and Tina are doing okay. Side note, really looking forward to your vlogmas with Tina!!

Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm sorry you've also had to go through a series of losses. I think it's deceiving and a little trippy how people say "chickens are so hearty" as if they can survive anything, because this has been the opposite of my experience and the experience of so many people I've spoken to.

It comes in waves; after losing my golden girls, since living with them for over 8 yrs. (Having them since chick's) and bringing them "EVERY" where. Theater, beach, parks! And shopping! Yes, shopping!.. It hits hard sometimes, (missing them and breaking down) I'm so proud of all you've done and doing!!!

Glad to see you made a new video! Felt so bad when you lost Ren. I feed my bantam Purina crumbles too and have noticed that some are darker and some are lighter in color. She seems to prefer the darker ones so I think those are maybe the fresher ones. Got the darker ones at Tractor Supply and the lighter ones at Amazon (can see Tractor Supply having higher turnover with the food). Btw I found this company that makes these awesome cages you can put together and I just got one after searching forever for a better enclosure. The company is Kavee Cages. I got a 3 x 3 with a lid and fun fleece liners that they had. My chicken is so proud of hers and likes to go in there a lot during the day to take fleece blanket baths. I think Tina would like it. 😂

I am really sorry about Ren. 💔 I just lost two of my girls a week apart. One was a new pullet. We think she died from being egg bound or something, but it would have been her first egg. The other was one of my original 4 girls and we are still not sure what was wrong. They were two of my favorites and we were connected. I totally understand the bond you can have with a chicken. They are the cutest and sweetest little animals. 🥰❤️🐓 Yes to Vlogmas. 👍❤️

i got a chicken at a fair once time, i have autism and very bad depression. my pet chickens probably saved my life. it was a blue cochin (i dunno how to spell it) and i loved her, she was a fantastic hen. i ended up enjoying chickens so much i bought 30 more, i think they are just fun and they are the only pets on the planets that give you free food every day and you dont have to hurt or kill them, it's the most amazing thing ever. chickens are great, i think everyone should have at least a couple (chickens are happier in groups, they will make you their flock if there isnt anyone else, but it's always nicer to have a friend for them to roost with, they feel nervous roosting alone, unless they are next to you)

I really related to the part where you said she died 2 hours after the vet, my hen had a seizure and it was a Sunday no vet was open but she lived a good life and nothing truly could've been done

My neighbor had to rehome her chickens today. They were outside and we live in Canada. We are allowed to have backyard hens in our city but people complained about them to the city. I feel so bad but happy they are going to a safe place. They wouldn’t go in their coop because a couple rats were invading it. She took care of the rodents but the chickens still seemed scared. I enjoyed feeding them veggies and they would come to me as soon as I called out to them. Originally it was “Hello Ladies “ until 3 of 5 turned into Roos. They all get along well but the cock-a-doodling was a bit much. I’m looking forward to having my own house again and would love to have a few chickens. The best cuddly one is Marvin, she’s a Polish with the fluffy head. I’m going to miss her.

honestly, chickens do not have alot of taste receptors in their mouth and one of the things that has helped chickens be around so much for us is they will eat anything and everything that fits in their mouth parts, bugs, fish, mice, snakes, lizards, frogs, baby birds, adults birds, literally anything, except very few things, onions, they didnt like, until they were super rotten. but yeah chickens are super hardy birds. they can eat everything you can eat and they will, since they have no stomach you just have to make sure they have a lot of water, because they need that in their crop to keep everything rumbling around in there being broken down, also feed them oyster shells and other stuff to keep their calsium up (i';m sure you know all this already i just am typing in case someone else wants a cute hen for a pet (do it..i promise it'll be crazy and fun, and it will test friendships too actually, you'll lose half your flakey or fake friends

An important correction is that chickens cannot eat everything humans can eat. Onions, for example, are toxic to chickens.

When I got my 3 boys (sarama's) I found your videos & have watched every one. You inspired me on my diaper quest lol I purchased several you tried, but had to make them. I love how you are so kind with your birds. I'm so sorry for your loss, it sucks to loose a pet. I recently lost a big girl and one of my boys to a coyote :( the heart ache is so hard. My 2 boys showed definite confusion when the 1 got taken. I hope you continue to do videos or vlogs? I'm not too good with different social media things, but I really like you and your sincerity. I will be ordering some pillows. My big chickens (now 4) and little boys are also emotional supports for my grandson, they changed his life :) Take good care

Thanks, Paula! I’m sorry you share some of the same loss and heartbreak that I do. I’ve been thinking about sewing my own diapers too! Were there any helpful adjustments you added to your own design vs the ones you purchased?

@@renthehousehen My 1 boy, Pip, is very smart & had been able to remove or adjust so he can escape the diaper, 3 different styles 🤦‍♀ and then help the others. I had to make the elastic straps custom for each of them & the pouch. I couldn't use Velcro either, they became very good at opening them. I resorted to snaps that are used for cloth diapers 😅 I didn't use any metal loops (some had them near the tail area) I made loops from the strap by folding it over & sewing to make a pass through for the rear strap. I can say Pip has only once been able to get this style off. I couldn't make the straps adjustable either, they could slide the adjuster and get out! The funniest guys around. Instead of buying the waterproof material for the lining, I had a raincoat from one of my grandkids that was too small & I cut it up & use it for liner material :) works great and wipes off easy. Also has lasted longer than the other liner materials. Making them was tedious until I got the exact sizing I needed for each. I made a pattern so now it's pretty quick. Would you be doing 24 videos and putting them on youtube or another social media? I think I've seen you on tictoc but I don't have the instagram. I look forward to more of your videos 🥰

@@paulabrett4681 Omg Pip sounds like such a character! ❤The raincoat sounds much easier to clean than the PUL in most of the diapers that are available. The 24 videos would be right here on KZread from December 1-24. It's an annual KZread tradition called "Vlogmas" where you post 1 video per day leading up to Christmas. 🎄❤
