Welcome back, Becca! Talking about the "pain keeps me humble" line. Or, in my case, ALLOWS me to be humble. I always felt the need to push myself to be as good or better as those around me, even while having compassion and understanding for others not being able to do or be as much. But I was literally collapsing into bed after work, every day, crying because of the pain. Then someone brought it to my attention that I work past things that would send others fleeing to an ER. It made me re-evaluate my experiences, so I talked to my doctor and eventually was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. And while I grieved for the person I thought I was, it also gave me permission (as if you should need it) to be kind and compassionate to myself. I didn't need to be super-powered anymore.

Thank you, friend! I absolutely LOVE the angle you pointed out there. It does allow us to be humble in ways others things in life may not. Without going into too much detail, I feel firsthand exactly what you’re describing with your comment. Just last night I was in such a place of physical pain and exhaustion that I couldn’t stop myself from crying just from all of that. It wasn’t even that I was specialty mentally upset, I just could not feel better. It’s a hard place to be, and I’m sorry you know it. I’m glad we have music like this to help us along the journey. So thankful to have you here.💕🙏🏼

@BeccaDoss Brighton, where Ren now lives was where all Ska fans boys used to go on their mopeds. And they were known for their their stylish look. They were always very well dressed and cool looking. Rude was the word that was used to instead of cool. So they became known as rude boys. You should find a movie called Quadrohenia. It's all about the culture and the fighting and the music. Sting was in it. Ren is massively influenced by Sting and his music. So I think watching that will give you a greater understanding of where Ren has gone musically.

I seem to spend all my free time watching people react to Ren for the last year so I’ve seen dozens of people reacting to this - and I think yours is one of the most complete assessments of the lyrics I’ve seen. More than that though, your appreciation of the video made me so happy as I think the genius of how they incorporated the meaning of the words as well as simply showing them has gone largely under appreciated in almost every reaction. Some people have picked up on bits, but I’ve not seen anyone get the same kind of joy I did from appreciating how clever the video is. I hope you enjoyed going back to realise all the imagery in the first verse/chorus before you really caught on to it :) Re: the Ruuuuuuuuude bit - I think it’s relating to Rude boys etc which relates to Ska and Two Tone and Mods which are influences in Ren’s music for sure. (See songs like “a message to you Rudy” by the Specials from that era)

" There is pain in life, but life is not only pain." Another fantastic reaction and analysis by the legendary Becca Doss. Thank you for taking the time to make this video I hope you are finding Ren's more up-beat tracks easier to listen to compared to the ones that may leave us all gutted like Nemo at a sushi restaurant. Yet, it is this extravagant spectrum of emotion that makes Ren and his art so special. For life can be hard, but so are diamonds as they are equal to life only when they rise from out that same cave that could collapse us in at any moment. Yet, it is only with this life that comes another opportunity again to shine like those rubies and pearls from outside that same suffering. I hope you feel that very shine you inspire within all of us, every video. Thank you for being such a treasure and I hope with time and healing you feel yourself shine......Now that I have reread this back might be worth staying out of snowed in hotels with Jack Nicholson, but to each their own. Thank you as always Becca for all that you do as I hope you continue well upon your recovery too. Can't wait for your wisdom with Ocean see you then. Oh, and if you like Eden's sound thought to link more of her music for your enjoyment. Her number "Lonely," is quite magic. open.spotify.com/artist/6I5jDVZ3DQiNNcyBWcrweo

Wow, friend, I don’t have adequate words to tell you how much this comment touched my soul. That quote you typed at the beginning is something I’m glad said, because I initially *did* unintentionally quote the line from “the princess bride,” and I wanted to make sure anyone watching could get the message I intended instead of the “life is pain” quote without some clarification. Your words here are so beautifully composed, and I can picture the images you’re evoking, thank you for that. (Also, got a good laugh at the Jack Nicholson reference😉😂) As always, I also appreciate your support in my recovery, I really think 2024 is gonna be the year I finally break free.💕

Becca, fabulous reaction as always. Personally, this song speaks to me in several ways, firstly how often have I unloaded my pain whilst standing at the edge of the sea and staring at the waves, wanting them to drown my emotions and leave me refreshed and renewed and lulled by the foam swells lapping at the shore. Secondly, how many times have I told myself the that the job of pain is to keep me humble and make me realise I am stronger when I get back up after I faulter. Additional to this is the fact that I really love the particular line in this track that goes“This world is a jungle, but these trees hold the sweetest fruit”. To me it says those nuggets of sweet joy and the understanding of knowing where we are, are worth the bruises of traipsing around (often in circles and getting lost beneath the canopy) not always seeing the wood from the trees in the darkest of places. Yes, it might often be dark and scary, but if we shift perspectives then the lushness of the landscape can offer a security cloak, cooling shade from life’s heat and a sense of being rooted in rich soil. Thus, providing us with the hopefulness of the search, and the desire to hunt out that honey sweet passion filled nectar hidden deep within.

The reference to the sea might be straightforward; in the UK we are relatively close to our coastal waters, even when we live inland, so access to the sea is relatively easier. Or, the sea might just stand for anything natural that revives your spirit - for me it’s walking in the woods. Or, and this is a bit of a stretch, our bodies contain a signifiicant amount of water (like the ocean), and it is about making peace with our bodies and therefore our minds. Not so sure about that one, though. 🤷‍♀️

“… style that’s rude”. “Rude boy is a subculture that originated from 1960s Jamaican street culture.[1] In the late 1970s, there was a revival in England of the terms rude boy and rude girl, among other variations like rudeboy and rudebwoy, being used to describe fans of two-tone and ska. This revival of the subculture and term was partially the result of Jamaican immigration to the UK and the so-called ”Windrush” generation. The use of these terms moved into the more contemporary ska punk movement as well. In the UK and especially Jamaica, the terms rude boy and rude girl are used in a way similar to gangsta, yardie, or badman.” Source: Wikipedia.

New to your channel, so I'm going to have to see if you've reacted to "Seven Sins" or "Genesis," as I think you'd have a field day. I really like your reacyion to this as it's one of my favorites that comes up often on my commute playlist. Their "Ocean" is 🔥 and upbeat as well, though a different genre-blend. (Not sure if you've listened to Ren's Money Game series, but when you were talking about Ren's use of gallows/noose imagery, I thought of the following. I don’t want to spoil your interpretation with my own, so feel free to ignore comment below.) I could be wrong, but the Money Game imagery comes across as people with money bags secured over their heads with the kind of rope used at a gallows. To me it looks like people about to be hung by the money game. Basically, we've all got nooses around our necks without even noticing. It's why I love that the narrator in part 3 starts off by taking that all off and taking a look in the mirror - which is what is asked of us in part 1, "But we like to point the blame, blame, blame, blame / It's easier to blame / But point the mirror at ourselves / We're all part of this old money game."

Thank you so much for taking time to leave this comment, as far as the songs you mentioned I have not gotten to several of the songs of the new album, yet, simply because I had to take a break from some of the heavier, darker themes for my own mental health. I absolutely can’t wait to get to them, though, including seven sins, Genesis, and I know ocean is going to be a blast! As far as the money game trilogy goes, I have recorded my reaction to part one, but I ended up with 97 minutes of footage, so it’s taking a while to edit. I may wait until I can film the other two, and eventually uploaded them in order, but we’ll see how things go! Basically nothing likes it my brain as much as diving into, and dissecting Ren’s art, so I’m looking forward to making my way through ALL of it! (Excellent point about the gallows imagery in MG, even just seeing part one so far, I can totally see that being another layer he’s going for)💕

I so wish I had a link for you. Unfortunately it was part of a limited merch drop form an album of the same name back in 2017, so I did a quick search to see if I could find it anywhere online, but I didn’t have any luck.😕 The artist is Dillon Chase, and if you’re curious about the album, here’s a Spotify link to that. open.spotify.com/album/4eid6ZtaCmbKADaVR6PROR?si=EMLNXTGxRUyN2a_qBdJuAQ I’m not sure if he has any old merch available that’s not on his store, especially since he’s living in Japan now, but it may be that there’s one floating around if you ever want to contact him.

Dear Becca, are you Ren's sister? You are so alike. When I listen to you in analyses and compare it with Ren in analyses, I hear two versions of one thing. Yes, human beings are clumsy creatures. Yes, I couldn't have said anything about this life better myself.

Oh my goodness, Scott, I’m so glad you shared this when you did because I really needed that smile.😁 I wish! I do feel like he’s probably the artist with whom I’ve most been able to resonate on a deep level when it comes to just about any topic I’ve heard in his songs or just in his own posts/interviews, etc. It’s nice to know there are more people out there who get it than we realize. The tendency to really dig deep and analyze things is what has gotten better so hooked on Ren this year. It’s always a blessing to know others are also able to get a smile from it.😊 (Also, love me some Emerson!)

Hi Becca, I love your reactions and happy you're back. I'm working on a Reaction Concert to Humble and Ocean and I'd love to incorporate this reaction. Do you mind if I do that? I'm trying to create the concerts in such a way that they promote the featured reaction channels, but I also respect y'all way too much to want to make you angry or feel used. Right now I'm: (1) putting your channel name on the video whenever you speak so people can find you, (2) creating a youtube playlist with all the reactions used in a concert, and (3) shouting out prominently used reactions in the description field. Please see my channel if you want to get a sense of what I'm doing. Thank you for your consideration!
