Quick rundown on Ren's back story. He's 33 but at 19/20 he got signed by SONY then became really, REALLY sick. He was bedridden 23 hours a day. SONY ended up dropping him midway through recording his first album because he was just too sick to do anything. For almost a decade he was misdiagnosed as bipolar, chronic fatigue syndrome and given all these meds that made his undiagnosed condition worse. After dozens and dozens of doctors he was finally given the answer he desperately needed by a specialist in Belgium, he had Lyme disease. Even through he had the answer the disease wreaked havoc on his body with nerve damage, brain damage, there's only a handful of foods he can eat now. He went to California a few years ago for stem cell treatment that helped alot, but not where he needs to be to function as a normal human being. So right after he dropped Hi Ren he flew to Calgary Canada and has been there for specialized treatment for Lyme disease. Originally he was only going to be there for three months now it's going to be closer to a year because the damage is worse than they thought. But knowing he was going to be away he recorded a bunch of music, his boy Sam and him made videos to release, and he's doing sooo much better. He's done interviews with Knox Hill, Black Pegasus and Justin Hawkins Rides Again explaining everything and his thought process. He calls his style "Bardcore" after the Bard's of the 16th and 17th centuries who would go around to taverns telling stories through music and he really can write and act. Almost all of his videos are live one takes and if you react to him look for the Love versions because they're always 10000000000000X's better than the studio recorded versions. But I know you love old Hip Hop and Ren has a ode to The Beastie Boys and the song is called, "What You Want" like the Beastie Boys song "Whatcha Want" and it's freaking awesome. Reminds me of the early 90's when Beasties did their song. BTW Ren makes all his beats and plays all the instruments on his songs including this one. But Ren does EVERY genre except country, heavy metal and polka haha. His song "Hi Ren" he put out in December exploded with almost 15 million views. It's a live one take (the 4th time doing it he nailed it and they kept it) the style is like folk with the acoustic guitar mixed with rap and it's insane. Other rap, rap songs Ren has is Power, Genesis, The Hunger, Animal Flow, Losing It Fisher rap remix He's got others. But a reoccurring theme is a pig mask. He's a huge fan of George Orwell and especially his book "Animal Farm" He has alot of busking videos with himself, his band The Big Push, Sam Tompkins and Chinchilla. Sam Tompkins and Chinchilla can both sing their asses off and so does Ren when they're together. But on Ren and Sam Tompkins song "Blind Eyed" Ren goes off rapping towards the end of the song. Check out "Ren and Sam Tompkins featuring the Angry Car Park Attendant" haha it's hilarious and so good how they don't stop. Ren even sells The Angry Car Park Attendant figure on his merch store lol Good to have you back, again sorry to hear about your loss. Your mom is always with you brother!

He's from Wales, now lives in the UK but is presently in Canada for medical reasons. His story is addressed in his song Sick Boi and in quite a few others. One I would recommend is when he was in The Big Push band busking : I Shot The Sheriff/ Road to Zion/ Hip Hop. He has so many good ones such as Chalk Lines with Chinchilla. Amazing artist.🙏🏽✌🏽

First off: So sorry to hear about your mom. I lost mine a couple of years back, and it still hurts. Hope you have people who have your back for when it hits you, too. Welcome to the RENaissance. Most people come to Ren through his track Hi Ren, which he dropped back in December 2022 as the first track to the album he's running up on releasing. It's an amazing performance and really gets to the heart of the human condition as seen through the lens of a young man who's really been through some things. Humble is an absolutely great track. If you dig Ren & Eden, then go hit up Ocean. A note about Ren. He honestly does it all. He writes the lyrics, writes the music, writes the beats, produces the tracks, and when there's a video, he directs those. He can sing and he can rap rap. If you really dig rap, he's got a ton of great tracks. Losing It is the tip top, but The Hunger is my favorite. After that, you've got *Power,* *Genesis,* *What You Want* (going old school), *Right Here Right Now retake*, and *Bittersweet Symphony retake*... Simon Tong (bassist for the Verve) liked it so much, he tracked down Ren's PO Box and sent him a guitar. ... note about Cali... there are lots of places out here that aren't nearly as expensive as the major metros that are still outstanding places to live, especially if your work is primarily remote.

I think everyone should start out with Ren - Hi Ren. However, it's worth noting that if you happen to not like it you should definitely check out more of his music because the guy is a true musician and plays many genres to a ridiculously high skill level. New sub here. It’s actually great that you started with this song and knew nothing of Ren. You are in for the musical ride of your life. Sorry music doesn’t do justice to Ren’s work. He is an artist of multiple skills and talents. From writing and directing every video to producing and recording the beats to playing all the instruments, there are few in the world like him. Along with that comes the most heartbreaking and difficult personal journey of any artist I know. Ren is a force of nature and millions of RENegades support and love him. As far as I am aware, Ren wrote, produced & edited this song, as he does with most of his songs. He also makes all the beats himself, beat box's, and plays acoustic, bass, and electric guitar as well as piano/keyboards. He Raps and sings rock, and blues. reggae and many other genres, he is known as the Bard of Brighton.

Ren does it all abs had had a rough life. He's super intelligent. If you're interested, there's a couple recent interviews by black pegasus and knox Hill. His band The Big Push is a treasure trove of gems!

He has a different style just about every song and has a group that does covers from reggae, jazz,rock. He is theatrical and collaborates with several other artists

No two Ren songs are the same, but they're all fantastic. He's one of the best lyricists around, and bends and blends genres fluidly. A few suggestions for general purposes (but honestly, you can't go wrong): Hi Ren--this is the song that launched him into most people's awareness. It's a work if art, unlike anything else. Sick Boi--a follow-up to Hi Ren, but it easily stands alone as well. Chalk Outlines--a live recording with another independent UK artist named Chinchilla. This is probably one of the most traditionally structured of Ren's songs, and it's singing, not rapping. A stunningly beautiful song. Suic*de--if you're in the mood for a good cry. Losing It--just a fun rap song. Just for a start...😊

I hope you decide to move forward with Ren. Everything you hear will surprise you. Hi Ren is where most people started the journey. But wherever you start will be fun.

I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell. Ren is helping me massively cope with Grief. People have said it already but you 1000% need to do Hi Ren then you can dive deep into his catalogue which is amazing. I’m definitely curious how you’ll parse Ren’s work. If I can put in a vote for which window in the Advent calendar to raid next I’d have you hit his one-take of GENESIS. I’d note in advance that his line about Noah being late with the ark is likely either a reference to him being a few minutes too late to save his friend, Joe, or a reference to his finally getting back to his music after so many years of deranged illness. Or both. Then there’s the license to kill…

its a bit reductive to call him a rapper, but he can rap rap. like ren can can rap, scat, yodel, vocalize, sing, play guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, he writes, he produces, a lot of his rapping isn't like typical hiphop rapping, but some sure is, like the hunger and illest of my time are both good ones where he rap raps better than any multiinstrumentalist i've ever heard. humble is a great song, kinda one of the later ones people tend to react to though
