Lenny is one of the characters in John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice And Men, that's the reference. I absolutely swooned when Ren did this., along with the David Attenborough bar. So good! No reference in Murderer to Dotta, Ren recorded and shot that over a year ago when he'd never heard of KD. Ren's lifting KD up, so is Knox, really. Dotta's on the radar, thanks to them. Whether he stays there is up to him. Hope he's able to capitalize on their help, improve his game and grow.

AR ❤ I think the reference to Lennie is a triple. Lennie Small is a character in the novel "Of Mice and Men". The character's name is already a double because Lennie Small is a physical giant of a man. I think Ren sees Dotta as the Lennie character, and the plot of the novel is a metaphor for the plot of Ren's diss track. In the novel, Lennie is a mentally defective giant who doesn't know his own strength. He's accidentally killed small, soft creatures, such as a puppy he's been given, by being too rough when he attempts to pet them. His friend, George, has always looked out for Lennie, and has tried to keep him from harming anyone. In the end, George is forced to shoot Lennie in a mercy killing, in response to Lennie accidentally killing a woman.

Clever of Dotta, I thought, trying to defang one of the advantages Ren has over him. "Don't dazzle 'em with this other shit, I want to compete on the rap field, bar for bar." And Ren's response shows respect for that, while also demonstrating he doesn't NEED any other shit to impress. Doing it a capella works on many levels (including the diss of "it's not worth my time" to produce a beat, or fit this to an existing one), but especially reframed it as a battle rap rather than a diss track, in a way that allows for Ren's game of lifting ships to make sense. 🎉

Yep, it's also a bit deeper than that I believe, Lenny was a big Black Guy (like the chap in 'The Green mile'), who had a mental disability, and needed others to support him in daily life. He also killed a woman accidently, by shaking her and snapping her neck (that may have been the transition to the jenny line? I'm not sure, but I'm always looking for the extra layers in Ren's Lyrics, lol). Deep stuff.

I saw a post from Ren, saying he had poked the bear (Dotta) just enough to get him to release a diss track. So, he could respond. In a PERFECT Ren fashion. 1 Showing, that he could INDEED play his game and do it VERY well. 2 Make a point, that there is enough hate and division in the world. Why add to it? 3 Give him a spotlight and challenge him to SHINE. It was everything that we have come to expect from Ren. Love and support.

Ren is a whole different kettle of bees to so many artists out there right now, and I love that getting to the end of his performances rewards viewers/listeners with a shot of adrenaline - surprise at him rising to yet another level of genius within it, and that shot is STILL there for the die hard fans, because he's impossible to predict; add that to his extensive vocabulary and innate musical talent and he feels like the future of civilisation within music. Because that's what's lacking elsewhere, progress, insight, courtesy and humanity.

I know we were all curious to see the approach Ren would take. This was clever and hilarious. He honored the hip hop battle rap culture, sharpened his pen, and wasn’t afraid to step into the ring. He threw some wicked punches💥 🥊 But then he flipped the script and stayed true to his message of unity and lifting others up, rather than tearing each other down. Dotta’s subscribers have doubled as a result of Ren’s track. And even Dotta gave Ren props and respect on Dotta’s community post. I’m sure Michelle will punch back, but I doubt Ren will give him much attention. Dotta popped onto RedTop Reactions livestream and said the cake bar had him rolling because he had red velvet cake for breakfast 😹

Eh, while that IS a Canadian stereotype, it is also a British one, we apologise a lot. It's likely national guilt from all the colonialism (and also maybe where you got your stereotype from :P )

I love the fact that Ren turned this into his own and is making heads turn - again, with this version of his response. And in doing so, everyone now knows who Dotta is for the first time.

Ren already won with the Viagra line. 😂 And when he went RATM - "F you, I won't do what you tell me." It was all over. The fact that he went 180, and actually said some nice things in the end. Shows how big a man Ren really is.

Knox responds and sends love. Ren responds, sends love and a million subscribers to like and subscribe. Current Dotta subs 8/8/23- 363. Dotta: Ren is about love, acceptance and compassion. His fan base is diverse, deep and wide. We are not only from the “culture”. We are from every walk of live. Every generation. Every musical background. Every culture. Welcome to the army of Ren. Times change, my friend. Time to change. Perhaps you can learn from this. Grow from this. We must all remember, we are human beings. Grab your ketchup and crunch away my friends.

It’s Lenny, a character from the novella, “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck. It’s an American reference from the Great Depression. It became a play, and a movie. I’m amazed that Ren knows about it.

Of mice and men was a massively famous book that many americans read in high school. That reference was so sick. The amazing grace outro is so fucking good, Ren is truly genius.
