Yep, I love Ray's Ren (and friends) reactions. I've often hoped Ren's watched more than a couple. They bring me such joy, and it feels like they'd bring him joy, too. Someone fully appreciating his art (AND his friends!) but being fuckin' *hilarious* about it. I need to know whether he's seen Ray's reactions to the Big Push stuff - particularly reactions after Ray's established his head cannon about Sunshine and Ramen Noodle Soup and (ominous music) THE DRUMMER lol...

Chinchilla Fingers live performance is spine chilling.

This live version takes the song to a whole new level. Their connection is undeniable. And when their eyes connect, you can feel the bond. They started working together in 2019. Ren reached out to her and she said she knew exactly who he was, so she was familiar with his music. The studio version of this song was the first thing they did together. They performed it a few times but then the pandemic hit. They got together again in 2021 to do Chalk Outlines and that’s when they recorded this live performance. So they hadn’t performed it much together, but it may have added even more intensity to it. Chinchilla shared on her socials that their family knew each other from years ago: “How mad is that?! Out of all the billions of us in the world, our two mums and my aunt went on holiday together in their 20’s and my aunt started a theatre company with Ren’s mum! Teeny tiniest world ❤ Fate. Is. Real.” They call each other musical siblings and just recorded 2 new tracks!! One is Ren on piano … it’s gonna be fire 🔥

Such a wonderful track, deep and with a beautiful touching message, and one of my all-time favourite performances. Fingers Live for Hunger TV by Chinchilla is simply a MUST .

They always look at each other's eyes as if their whole existence on this Earth depends on the other. Like a lifeline for two lost and tormented souls. I feel that every single time. In this as well as in Chalk Outlines. I can't even put in words how much I love them both. Their music and their personalities. 💙💙

Edit: Just got to this part, but no, apparently they hadn't performed this together before. it's hearsay, but I've heard someone say ren claimed she showed up, he made sure she knew how the song went, they went over the direction, and just went with it. This was the same day as Chalk Outlines btw, notice it's all the same accessories, same nails, earrings, rings, even her white sweatsuit is hidden underneath that jacket.

Chalk Outlines is still my favorite but this is their peak performance, if you feel me. This is just enrapturing. When they cut off and her voice echoes slightly in the silence, it’s priceless. The hummed part is right out of the 40s, sounds like something the doowop groups like the Ink Spots would have done to open a song. But it’s a whole other vibe after that. And yeah, their connection is spooky af and you can’t look away cause they can’t.

An analogue from history to me is Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris. Same kind of artist/partner singer relationship, same spooky harmonies, same connection that makes you think they GOTTA be, but nah.

Super excited that we'll see you do more solo Chinchilla! DO "ELEMENTS!" It's the very first video on her KZread channel and I shit you not it's still the one I play the most, despite all the great stuff she's released since. I don't think anything can match her gorgeous vocals on Fingers Live, but Elements is my full-on fave. And the vocals are amazing on Elements (and everything else she's done) but I'm talking about how the *song* catches me. Also - in one (maybe more than one?) of the interviews Ren has done for KZreadrs (and Chinchilla said the same in the interview she did with The Fairy Voicemother, which is a GREAT channel), he explained they didn't even know each other before they recorded How to Be Me and Chalk Outlines. They were both with the same management team or something, and Ren liked stuff he'd heard from Chinchilla and Chinchilla liked stuff she'd heard from Ren, and Ren contacted her and said "hey, I like your music, would you do a couple of songs with me?" and Chinchilla said "I like your music too! Yes!" and they didn't even have a lot of rehearsal before they did the studio recordings and these live videos. Ren's even said he didn't give Chinchilla the direction to be locking eyes with him in the Chalk Outlines shoot - that's just what she did out of the gate and he loved the performance that came of it. ... if I've got any of these details slightly wrong, someone will be along to correct it (and thank you, if you do)!
