Joe Hughes, who jumped from the Menai Bridge in Wales in December 2010. Ren was the first person on site, only 5 minutes to late. The last part of his latest released song, Suicide, is about his feelings about that day. The song Freckled Angels (and the album with the same name) is also dedicated to Joe.

@@ASilentPantherNo, I don't think they are even in the same part of the UK. The whole idea of them singing on "the bridge" is wrong. Please google for some pictures of the Menai Bridge and the area around it and see for yourself. The song is fantastic as is, performed very emotionally by two great artists. There is no need to add anything else to it.

Another very enjoyable reaction. Regarding "How to Be Me," Ren's best friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide on the 27th of December, 2010 by jumping off the Menai Bridge, a large suspension bridge connecting the mainland to the Isle of Anglesey where Ren and Joe lived. Ren alluded to it in one of his songs, stating that he lost his best friend before he was 25. The pain of this loss is evident in a few of his songs. "How to Be Me," "Freckled Angels" and his latest release, "Suic*de" are specifically dedicated to Joe. Some people have claimed that the video was shot at the bridge that Ren's friend jumped from, however, that is misinformation according to some Brighton residents. Ren recently posted some background on his relationship with Joe and the tragic suicide. Ren explained that he got a call from his friend Ella around 3 am saying that Joe was the Menai Bridge, He’d been on the phone with her in tears saying goodbye. He told her to tell everyone he loved them. Ren went out on foot attempting to get to Joe while trying to reach him on the phone. Just minutes before Ren got to the bridge, his friend's cell phone went out of service. The Coast Guard started a search to no avail. Ren, friends, and volunteers unsuccessfully searched the shoreline for ten days; Joe’s body was never recovered. Ren’s and Chinchilla’s live performance of "Chalk Outlines" is still my favorite song, partly because I can relate to it more given my daily struggles. Although, losing one’s best friend to suicide is also something I experienced when I was 19 y/o (almost 38 years ago). “How to Be Me” definitely runs a close second, though. I would recommend you check out their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk In Love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover); those performances are of a much lighter mood and very enjoyable. I hope you will continue to dive into Ren's and Chinchilla's catalogs.

This song could apply to many different situations for all types of people in life, however for Ren it expresses the aftermath of losing his friend to suicide. It also has a duality to it where it could represent the thoughts of both the person who is in the thick of contemplating ending it and the person who endures the aftermath and what it does to your soul. But the haunting way they sang it feels like a desperate wailing to me. Grief is something we all can understand. Another empath fist bump, 🤜🏻✨ great reaction! Glad you got to this one. It holds a lot of weight for me. This video and song stopped me from committing suicide. About 3 weeks ago I was really in a bad spot. I had finally gotten the diagnosis and conformation that I'd suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and had permanent brain damage. I'm on disability from work and don't know if I'll ever be able to go back to my old job. I'm still in a lot of physical pain from the compression fracture in my back. I'd really been fighting insomnia and hadn't slept at all in almost 40 hours. I was in such a dark place in didn't think I'd ever be able to find the light again. I just didn't want to keep going. I thought about my "future" and what going through life with brain damage was going to look like. I was so tired and in so much pain I just wanted it all to stop. I keep justifying why it was ok to just give up. I finally made the decision to end it all and kill myself. I sat down and decided to listen to some music one last time. This video popped up and I started watching it and got completely lost in it. When Ren sang that last verse I remembered the story of Joe's Death and it hit me so hard. I started thinking about my parents, my sister, and my friends. I pictured their reactions when they got the news. I wept tears of sorrow, anger, and hopelessness that night. I realized I couldn't do that to them. I'm still here, not by my choice or desire. I wish that accident had killed me instead of just handicapping me. I've shared this story on other reactions and some people were moved by it. I am trying to change my attitude about life. Its really hard to see anything positive coming to or from my life, but I'm told not to think about the "distant" future, but to focus on taking it one Day at a time.

Not just his music and talent, but as a person dealing with brain damage, ME/CFS, MCAS, Lyme disease, and other mental health issues, he's truly an inspiration. Since discovering Ren, I've actually quoted verses to my doctors to help explain or jump start conversations about what's going on with me and how I feel. I remind myself that chronic insomnia can really distort my perceptions and outlook, and keep in mind not to make any decisions when I haven't slept. Take time to adjust to your new reality, as possibilities don't emerge overnight or even months. It took Ren years to find healing options. I try to take hope from that. I hope you feel better. Your story isn't over.

I've established in my own mind not to force my pain onto anyone else. It's my burden to carry. Beautiful reaction, thank you! There is just something about Chinchilla that makes you always root for her, even if you don't know her, amirite? Her and Ren are two of the most authentic artists and pure souls I've ever come across. If you are interested, and you are, Chris Liepe recently did a fantastic long-form interview with Chinchilla. She's phenomenal and her connection with Ren is tangible. Her vocal control is astounding. I can't wait for her to have her moment. It's coming.

Awe..I’m like you, psychic empath..we take everything to heart. Ren released “Freckled Angels” over 12 years ago dedicated to his best friend Joe who jumped off a bridge. He talks in depth about the event in an interview with KnoxHill.. (girl, breakup, bridge) then he just released “Suis*de two weeks ago. Again dedicated to Joe Hughes. Ren is carrying a tremendous amount of guilt for not getting to the bridge fast enough to save Joe.

It's Joe bub. He's talking about Joe. I read an article that said he got there 5 minutes too late. How we know that, at this point it's not ours to judge. But it is apparently, how Ren experienced, continues to experience, the night.

2E’s, no Y - hey Joe, good to see you reacting to this song, it’s probably my favourite of their studio collabs (the busking performance of One Dance/Drunk in Love is my absolute favourite of the two of them together). In this song, and especially the ending, Ren is talking about his friend Joe who took his own life by jumping from a famous bridge where they lived in Wales. Joe’s body was never found and the whole thing has affected Ren deeply ever since. This is the same friend that Freckled Angles and Suic*de are about. It’s a very sad story and Joe sounds like an amazing guy. His passing though has gifted us all with some truly beautiful music from Ren’s heart. Great video, great reaction - you certainly have a unique perspective that you bring to the scene. Keep up the great work, much love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ren’s childhood best friend Joe Hughes committed suicide, it’s what his Freckled Angels album was about, it’s who this songs grief is about and it’s who he’s talking about at the end of his latest song Suicide.

Few thoughts from someone who has been lurking the last few weeks since your original BP appearance seeing Ren. Definitely time to look into Ren's friend Joe Hughes, he's a connecting thread through a lot of these tracks and the journey Ren is presenting, up to and including the most recent song. Second, Chinchilla deep dive is definitely due. Not sure if that's one you want to tackle solo or maybe go join up with BP again for a multi-video reaction type crossover again. Third on the revisit series that you started to experiment with. Can I suggest something of a pattern that might help you find new angles or pieces of discovery in the music? It involves going through a few times. First audio only, just load it up and close your eyes so you're just hearing the audio. Then find a reactor reacting to this song you're revisiting that does a unique deep dive on it (Chris Liepe, Charismatic Voice, Dicodec, Knox Hill to name a few). Then just watch the video again for yourself, and then finally do another closed eyes listen. I don't know why, but Ren's music seems to evolve over multiple listens (I'd consider myself overly empathetic as well so maybe you'll get similar experience). I find new things when listening vs watching, and then even more things when watching a reaction video of someone who really breaks it down. Even got something new on this watch with you, Chinchilla getting lost in a moment just before the round robin section. She starts shaking her head like she's just completely lost in this moment like she's possessed by the performance. Appreciate your style of reactions so hope to see things keep growing.

A bit lighter but some laughs and some feels. Bo Burnham the Kanye rant. He writes, produces, stage runs, everything since he was 16 on KZread. He quit performing after this brilliant show because of panic attacks and decided to come back after he spent 5 years in therapy and getting healed. He unfortunately got to this point in January 2020... So covid. He stopped shaving and hair cuts, produced fully alone for a year culminating in the show INSIDE. Thank you covid for this work of art and heart 😊 Shaving your smiles and feels, as well as your behind the scenes insight ❤😊

The final few lines are about his best friend Joe Hughes, who he lost as a Teenager. Joe called his friends from a local bridge saying he was going to jump. Ren was the closest and ran to the bridge but his friend couldn't be found and his body has never been recovered. Joes phone stopped working 5 minutes before Ren got to the bridge. Rens newest song 'Su*c*de' also touches on this in it's second half and will move you to tears. He also has another song called Freckled Angel (from the album of the same name) dedicated to Joe. As for Chinchilla, she's a powerhouse! Fingers (Live) and Good Girl Gone are two that you should definitely check out!
