It's interesting that the first comment I'm coming across is about THAT breath. I've watched several reactions for this, but for some reason, that breath caught my attention this time. It makes you think he's about to speak after drawing that breath. Instead it's like, "Okay I got something to say... no wait a minute, y'all ain't ready yet."

It's so amazing. He sings like screech and acts as screech. Then he acts and sings as narrator. Then he just acts as screech calling on the phone. Then he sings and acts as screech calling out the cops. Then he sings as Narrator but ACTS as screech running for Richard as Sam acts as Richard backing up. Then he sings as Narrator but acts as Richard now and Sam acts as screech... Mind Blowing..

I keep watching it for video production tidbits. For instance, Screech’s phone call did show anger and desperation BUT I think it was also a clever device they used to reposition Ren facing down a different alley than the one he first came down. It provided the setup for REN’s BACK to be toward the camera and walking away which made it possible for Sam to approach from behind and then swing around for the epic confrontation. Very clever!!!

I'm 47 years in the film business and I lock onto the same kinds of things Joe does. So impressive that anyone would have the patience and drive to do complex one takes such as Ren does. As I understand it, there was a story in the paper of a 14yr old boy who stabbed a young prostitute to death (stabbings being a common form of assault in London), with the police saying "it's such a shame." Ren then wove the rest of the story around the murder.

not only is the music and the story fantastic, but the acting is top notch. plus, BIG kudos to Sam with the sly movements like when Screech “turns to face the blue lights” and Sam catches up and gets back in front of Ren. also, when Ren is talking about Jenny being nervous while walking, he looks behind like somebody was following. the little things are quite impressive.

Watching this from a videographer's perspective made me notice more things, too. Like, in Violet's tale, when Ren is singing about Stevie as he climbs up some stairs. How the heck did Sam climb up the stairs backwards in front of him? A detail unrelated to filming - a voice coach reactor said that "trumpet" sound at the very beginning is a vocal warmup technique. Then he coughs. So he's a bard/minstrel warming up his voice & then clearing his throat as he gets ready to perform.

My favorite part to watch out for is in Violets tale at 20:24 when Ren sings "she never stood a chance" and the camera pans up - what's so cool about this is that Ren sings up into the stairwell in order to change the way his voice sounds, the stairwell adds far more echo and gives an etheral sound to his voice. He's literally using the surrounding environment to change how his voice sounds. Its genius.

The family traits goes even deeper. Jenny was silent/frozen like her mother Violette but also like her grandmother who was the silent drinker. And screech was violent like his father stevie, and his grandfather that done the horrible things to Violette. The traits go through generations. And also, screech went to Patrick's for help but he wasnt home and something more sinister awaits. So he called his girl who was "busy" with Patrick. Adding more fuel to the fire when he turns to face the blue lights... Great reaction boys! Liked and subbed 👌🤌🤙🔥❤️

The videography is so wonderfully choreographed. It has helped wake me up to so much of the subtle artistry that is involved. It helped me realize that part of the art is presenting what they want you to see exactly how they want you to see it without all the complexity it took to create it being visible. It is like creating the videography while trying to hide all the labor and challenges of actually doing the creation. Videography is visible art created invisibly.

The focus then returns to his face like we (the camera) are the eyes of violet. It really sells the lyric and Stevie's aggression. Also, the red haze Ren is lit by after Screech is shot. First off, I LOVE your reaction. It's great to hear your perspective on Ren AND Sam's work. There is something that I noticed both times BP has brought someone on to warch the tales. He is all fine enjoying the music and the story. Until, Violet's Tale. If you play it back, check his demeanor. He KNOWS how the story is about to unfold. He is physically uncomfortable. This story, Violet particular hits him HARD. You distracted him twice and he was able to snap out of it. If you notice, the third time he was too tensely wound up. Foreknowledge eating at him. He even seemed upset at the end. When he did the recap. Sounds as though he will be bringing Andi Roo on to see it as well. Curious if it will continue to have this effect on him? Anyway, just something I found interesting. Ps. At leat you have two more Ren songs that you can listen to. Lol

But, it’s only when you stop and consider all the elements needed to make this trilogy. The storytelling, the acting, the playing, the cinematography and you think deeply about what the events in the story mean that you realise what an amazing piece of art this is. Love to see Joe E’s reactions, his unfettered enthusiasm for what Ren and Sam have produced and his insights as a videographer all make for a great reaction. 🔥🔥

Fantastic reaction - you guys helped me better understand the technical and musical aspects of filming. I came to this channel from P's channel. I'm a Colorado Springs guy and I wasn't aware that there is such a vibrant music community in the area. New subscriber, looking forward to more.

Joe, loved your reaction, so impactful to see which parts of both the story/song and the videography made you clutch your chest, and which parts just had you frozen, open-mouthed and glued to the screen. There's nothing quite like that first experience! You know what I'd really like to see as well? Your thoughts on this piece after you've had plenty of time to watch it repeatedly, pause and rewind and study it to your heart's content. If that's something you would enjoy doing, I would HAPPILY watch a long video of you analyzing every choice Ren and Sam made that speaks to you as a videographer. I was already subbed to you after your first visit with BP but I'll definitely be watching my feed for more great stuff from you. 🖤

Violet's Tale is close to being better than Hi Ren imo. That haunted singing at the beginning as he looks around the room confused, like Violet waking up in the hospital. When he stares into Violet's eyes after lifting her eyelids. The brutal re-enacting of the abuse. The whole thing is just chilling, and so perfectly executed in every way. Hi Ren is very special, but Violet's Tale is like the pyramids. Just... how? If it took them 186 takes to nail Money Game, I can't imagine what Violet's Tale was like. It's 100x more complex in every regard. It's a masterpiece masterpiece, and JoeE's insights into the filming side helps me appreciate it even more. Looking forward to more reactions bro, wherever you post them.

There is a huge difference in the fact that violet saved her children from her choices as where her mother sacrificed her to them... goes to show tho that it does truly take a village bc without people on the same page the changes or sacrifices of a single individual more often than not go unnoticed 😢 Much love and mad respect ❤️❤️ #Ren #Sam #BP & #JoESparks

Ren wrote these tales after reading about a 14 year old boy who committed murder. He was trying to wrap his head around that, and it led to him writing the first two--and then later, Violet's tale. What's really remarkable to me is his empathy for these characters, even Screech.

Hi Joe e Sparks and Black Pegasus. This was an absolutely soul wrenching story. It speaks to me, life is so precious. The generational awareness, I've heard them, also my own. Silence. This will speak to alot of people. Keep on being a light, Ren. And Reactors, video photographers(?)your reactions are much appreciated, because of the amount of time and work put in. This is the reward, shining that light. Speak it...🙏☝️🖼☝️🎇🤓

Something that doesn't get immediately noticed is the (very intentional) use/change of acoustics. When he heads into the hall, the heavy reverb gives it a dreamy/flashback quality. When he comes out into the stairwell, he's singing upwards in a higher pitch to give "She never stood a chance" the haunting quality, then immediately moving towards the doorway to stifle it. It's truly amazing how many details he takes in. Chalk Outlines (with Chinchilla) also uses an amazing combo of videography and acoustics.

Don’t forget to see how he uses the space he’s in. The hallway where his voice reverberates off the walls… how his voice travels up the staircase that is dark at the top, indicating a dark end.

I'm loving the work here. The phenomenon of children repeating abusive cycles is well studied in psychology in twins. There is also a study of rats, where they electroshocked rats who ate from a blue dish or something, and then they bred the rats and 2 generations later the rats were still afraid of the blue dish, despite never having been electroshocked. DNA is powerful shit.
