Remy: Fortnight (Taylor Swift Parody)

A tale from the Tortured Public Servants Department.
Government employees and their office desks are never, ever, ever getting back together.
Watch all of Remy's Reason TV music videos here: • Remy Music Videos
Taylor Swift "Fortnight" parody written by Remy; performed by Remy and Austin Bragg; music tracks, mastering, and background vocals by Ben Karlstrom.
LYRICS:
Temporarily sent away but
They forgot to come and get me
A barely-functioning bureaucrat
Nobody noticed my new aesthetic
COVID's still a thing
Though that won't keep me from mid-day Soul Cycle
Meeting with our agency?
Expect to see three blank screens and Michael
Cuz every fortnight I am in the office one day
It is so hard working every other Monday
I click "leave-on-doorstep" but the
GrubHub driver rings my doorbell
I want to kill him
All my mornings are Sundays stuck in an
Endless commissary
If you ever try reaching us
The effects are pulmonary
And my phone rings it's ruining my life (I'm sick and it's ruining my life)
We come in one day every fortnight (You come in one day every fortnight?)
Cuz every fortnight I am in the office one day
It is so hard working every other Monday
In my backyard I have uncooked burger patties on the table
I want to grill them
I tried calling ya, but you don't pick up
Another fortnight lost in America
I tried calling ya, but you don't pick up
Another fortnight lost in America

The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.

Investing in both real estate and stocks can be prudent choices, particularly when backed by a robust trading strategy that can navigate you through prosperous periods. You're not doing anything wrong; the problem is that you don't have the knowledge needed to succeed in a challenging market. Only highly qualified professionals who had to experience the 2008 financial crisis could hope to earn a high salary in these challenging conditions.

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

Government employee here when COVID was in full swing. My experience was pretty much a fully paid, nearly year-long vacation. I woke up in the morning, spent 10 minutes checking my email to see if anything was going (9 out of 10 times there was nothing going on), had breakfast, went out to the park to work out, took a shower, had lunch, took a nap, and the rest of the day was spent either watching TV or working on my personal software projects. Best year of my life!

Remote work actually was a good thing for my department. We always had good metrics, so it's easy to notice whenever someone is slacking. As long as our remote numbers remain the same or better than our on-site numbers then they're perfectly content to let us remain remote indefinitely. Probably not a good method for work that is more ambiguous and difficult to track. Remote work isn't for everyone. Some people just don't have the discipline for it, but I really appreciate the flexibility as well as saving both time and money.

The solution here is to both a) get rid of the empty offices entirely; no "once every fortnite" and b) get rid of the unproductive employees. Having productive employees working from home is a savings, not a cost. Having unproductive employees working from anywhere is a cost, not a savings.

There are two things bad about federal employees 1. They get paid either by taxing me or inflating away the value of the dollars I earned 2. They make laws and bureaucracy If the employees that are skipping the office are those on the enforcement side of policy, this is actually an improvement.

Michigan's state capitol is still dead. Barely any reason to look both ways crossing the street downtown in the middle of the day. Also, when Covid started I was working for the state government in a support role. The folks we supported got kicked off the job, but we didn't so our job was to monitor a phone line which we knew would never ring. Then they gave us all federal money by giving us a "partial layoff." Basically we worked 4 days a week and ended up getting a raise from PPP.

I''m not one of those guys who can just put his feet up and embrace the suck. It feels like a waste of life. Oddly enough I am in teaching, albeit at a University. Non-tenure track and haven't had a promotion in nearly a decade, despite repeatedly being promised one to string me along and keep me around. University is largely credential-selling these days and it makes me feel like a dodgy used car salesman. I've seriously looked at retraining as a school teacher because I think that would be more valuable. However., I've a wife and kids to provide for and my salary failing to keep pace with cost of living increases means our savings are almost gone. I really don't understand the people who celebrate "working" in their pyjamas. Maybe it's easier if you were raised middle-class? My Irish Catholic nana raised me to _work_

There's been plenty of studies that flexible work arrangements boosts productivity. The media narrative that work from home hurts productivity has been debunked so many times, but it continues getting perpetuated. Anecdotally, there are a small handful of workers that abuse the privilege, but there are people that slack in the office, too. The answer isn't forcing people into cubicles, it's holding people accountable for getting work done. Managers need to check in with employees regularly and verify that progress is being made, find out if there's any blockers, etc. Rather than across the board return to office policies, low performers need to be held accountable. If you really cared about saving taxpayers money, we'd be complaining about the government renewing leases on offices they aren't using. Work from home would be a huge money saver if office leases were allowed to expire.

I think it depends on the sector. Jobs with a necessary human-facing component can be tricky remotely. I teach in a University and our remote learning classes during COVID absolutely sucked. It has had a knock-on effect when returning to in-person teaching as well as all the undergrads have stunted social skills now. I have a class where I let them interact with the slides using their smartphones and they are unbelievably enthusiastic about this. But in the very same lecture when I ask them questions, all I get is a sea of blank faces - no one is brave enough to speak up.
