Removing TOUGH PAINT from a TRASHED Sideboard | Antique Furniture Restoration
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I found this painted antique sideboard on the Facebook Marketplace, and as soon as I picked it up in the rain, I knew it needed a lot of work. In this video, I remove tough and stubborn paint from the antique and let the wood breathe again.

Holy WOW! I wanted to cry for you just watching the process of getting that paint off. This was such a transformation!!! Solid work….super solid work actually!!!!

Thanks Amy! I wanted to cry a bit too during the process 😂 But its always worth it in the end, especially when the wood grain looks like that!

I had this happen on some kitchen cabinets. I couldn’t do it after three rounds of strippers. I was in tears. There must’ve been ten layers of paints over the years. My dad finally looked at me and said try a heat gun. He said work slow and carefully. As soon as the paint bubbles remove with the spatula and viola! 😅 It’s tedious as well but better than all that paint stripper.

OMG! This series is just getting some awesome trash to treasure saves. Jay spent ages sanding, David ages gluing and filling and you spent ages scraping. What's in the next vid I wonder? 😂

That would have broken the best of restorers removing all that paint. You did a fantastic job and you were certainly a worthy contender to the challenge
That quarter sawn Oak is Beautiful! I've never understood why anyone would cover that beauty with paint. Thank you for sharing this with us. That was sooo much work, but it was well worth all the time & love that you put into it. Someone will love that beauty for many years to come. Please keep up the good work, stay safe, stay well and know that your work is appreciated.

This piece was definitely headed to a landfill. You managed, through tons of work, to make it something beautiful and can be used for years to come!
Hi from Cambridge UK. You deserve a medal for hard work, patience, staying power, skill and vision. Did I miss anything? Well done. This piece has been saved from landfill and will give many hours of pleasure to the new owner. Be proud.
I wish more old furniture was fixed up. It's so neat to have at least one old piece somewhere in a house. Fun to decorate with.
Man, did that thing fight you. You have patience and skill, I’d have launched that thing into space in a rage faced meltdown.
You deserve an Oscar, Emmy and Grammy. Beautiful!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
You deserve to win this competition.
For the love of paint... I appreciate your patience and tenacity. You brought her back to all her glory, and what a beautiful job you did! Cheers!
The sideboard is a sort of colonial/French provincial style popular in the seventies. The mass market paint technique was weird with a sprayed oil based paint and a sort of baking process that literally made a hard shell. The fact you got down to wood is a miracle out of Scripture
You deserve some kind of an award….seriously I’ve never feel so sorry for a KZreadr before. Good job in sticking it through. I would have given up the first day

Gees, what a ton of work! You’re a trooper to keep going when the paint was so difficult to remove! The end product is amazing!
Everyone of the trash to treasure videos I watch I think 'Oh that the worst one with the best restoration' then I see another one. Your's certainly was the most work at least getting the old finish off. I knew it would look great from the beginning though.
They should give you the gold medal for perseverance and hard work! The piece turned out to be amazing! Great great work!!! 🎉🎉🎉
Goodness. That is gorgeous. I give you so much credit for sticking with this transformation. I was exhausted just watching you scrape all that paint!
There were so many challenges and so much work. But you've overcome them all, dear Jamie. Amazing result 👌👌👌🤗

Nothing made in the last 100 years can compare in quality of workmanship or material or amount of production with 1900 Grand Rapids furniture. This was well worth saving. I hope whoever abused this piece sees how it turned out!
I had a Hoosier Cabinet last year that had 5 coats of five different types and colors of paint, two like your hard dry ones, and after trying two different strippers, scrapers, and sanding, I ended up using my heat gun on high and a scraper, outside on the deck, and it all came off, with only a little hard sanding necessary. It's really hard work lots of times, but in the end, it was worth it--under all that paint was a solid oak cabinet, no veneer, so no need for patching! I love it! Your cabinet came out beautiful, and your color matching is great! Good Job! Why anyone would put even one coat of paint over that gorgeous Flaky Tiger Oak makes my head spin!!
