This worked beautifuly for my six budgies! I wasn't nervous because this method doesn't feel like I'm going to slip and cut a leg. Thank you for showing this! I actually used the notched dikes to open the band up at the opening and then cut a part off with wire cutters. This method was much safer and effective! 🙌

My cockatiel has started to limp on the leg she has her band on. Im going to attempt to remove it today using this method. Thank you for posting.

I have no gap on my parakeets bands. My Lil keet moves way to much to get it off. I want it off because I'm afraid of sprains.

I know you mean well, but this is very risky! You could end up breaking the leg or cutting the leg. I'm a craftsman in many ways, I would never do that. A lot of things could go wrong. The tool that is made special for this purpose doesn't have the risk of one end slipping and then who knows what else could happen as in a lot of potential for damage. Your tool could slip on end, this is not the way people do it for many reasons. And most people shouldn't even try this, and if it were to be done, don't do it with just one person.
