I loved his first Major Storyline accidentally falling in love with his bestmate painfully hiding his love until he confessed which made Craig begin to feel differently about him which led to them eventual having a very passionate fiery on off love affair I preferred his attitude I liked his confidence how he would stick up for himself and his family he took on both Sonny and Justin when they hit his love I also liked him being a DJ and liked when he would hit his punching bag usually when he was mad with Craig I still believe his first ending was his best finally getting to kiss his love in public and leaving together to start a life together he never looked happier.

The tension is hella thick with this storyline already, I’m looking forward to something on this show for the first time in months 😅

This storyline with carter is ironic because the actors gay in real life his character is cruel trying to change someone’s orientation when it can’t probably be changed so annoying

Wow, I genuinely feel chills watching this storyline already! I'm so glad Hollyoaks is exploring this horrible world & I look forward to learning more. I hope Ste is able to rescue his friend, son & Dillon & that Carter gets what he truly deserves.

I knew they were leading up to a conversion therapy stories I put it together ages ago

David Ames is incredible in this. Fantastic to see a gay actor playing a character that’s 100 miles away from the person he is-the character being a homophobic cult-ish psychopath. It’s brave of him to do. And to think, Adam lambert says an actor can only play a character that’s the same sexual orientation as themselves. What utter tripe! Well done david 🙂

If you think about it--who better to play a role driven by villainous insidious homophobia than someone who's probably (sadly) directly experienced it as a victim?

I could tell the second Garrett heard JPs story he felt awful and he realised that this manipulation of JP is an act of revenge on Carters part. It makes you wonder.. Is Freya perhaps a lesbian too and her father attempted conversion therapy with her? Her parents seperated over it but once her mother died it resumed under Carters care. Freya falling for Hunter was nothing more than psychological. They could go very dark with this... For now trying to change John Paul so that he will no longer be attacked and as an act of malice is disgusting.

She’ll try to convince John Paul but he won’t listen because Carter manipulated him to believing being gay is wrong and took advantage of his vulnerability Golide will have to turn to Freya, Dillon, Ste and James for help.

Well I would love his first love to return Craig but it would have to be a recast so the next best thing would be Spike. Spike was a DJ that he met at Jacqui wedding to Alec fake marriage they hang out and John-Paul asks if he has a girlfriend Spike I'm gay they soon start dating John-Paul forgives Craig for beating him up and sleeps with new boyfriend Spike only for Craig to come knocking John-Paul cheats on Spike and dumped him rather abruptly Spike stayed around and hoped John-Paul would take him back but John-Paul loved Craig and would rather sleep with Craig whilst he was with Sarah then having exclusive relationship with him if Spike returned he could be a friend to John-Paul and maybe John-Paul could fall for him for real

I didnt see that coming and i thought JP being in a group where he could talk was a good should have known it was too good to be true.

That hugathon was something else. Gareth felt something alright. No wonder John Paul was practically skipping when he left. 😄 Let me stop. Ain't no way in hell this conversion therapy group is going to stay standing. It still happens- it just isn’t spoken about… I went through it myself for a while in a religious group- videos intended to shame me, being told that I am a sin and need to repent my sexuality and keep praying for it to be taken from me or learn to ignore it and do my duty by becoming a wife and mother even though neither of those things were what I wanted. I was even coerced into dating a man over 10 years my senior… sorry if this triggers anyone but it needs to be said that these things unfortunately do still happen and it should be known. I’m doing much better now- left the religious group altogether now and I’ve learned to fully accept myself for who I am… it needs to be talked about. People need to know it exists and it still happens. I’m from the UK too by the way… so yeah it does happen… even these days sadly…

This is what I thought was going to happen and I’m very much looking forward to it! The one thing I hope though is that they don’t turn JP into a bully, even for a short time because his character has been dragged through the mud enough this last year. I am intrigued by this storyline though! Kind of hoping the end twist is JP saving Carter from himself as I’m assuming he’s a self loathing closeted gay man who’s had abuse in his own past

Oh my OA I KNEW IT I knew he was homophobic and he wants revenge on John Paul this is sick! This is giving me similar vibes to when Ste was groomed to join that Far Right group Carter is sick in the head if he even thinks for one second that he can change someone’s sexuality. Unless if maybe he’s like this because he doesn’t want revenge on John Paul’s Family maybe he was with a Male and that why his Wife divorced him because their Daughter caught him cheating on his Ex-Wife with a Male and she got full custody of her and they both moved to the village. Maybe if Freya finds out what her Father’s really trying to do to Dillon, john Paul and Lucas then maybe Freya will bring up his Ex-Boyfriend’s name and she’ll try convince him to put a stop to to all of this. @ChelseyLinden. My comment yesterday on this episode clip was. Maybe just maybe Carter is secretly gay but went through therapy and was converted into believing he's straight and not gay. But he thinks he's going to convert John Paul into being straight. What's next is Carter going to drag Sally into it I hope Tony finds out about this. Because Tony would be angry because his son Harry was gay plus last I check wasn't Hollyoaks village made up of alot of gays and non binary and transgender people. So Carter picked the wrong village to mess with. Does anyone feel that Carter had anything to do with that attack on John Paul

It's incredible JP hasn't done something more drastic by now, considering the way his life has panned out since he was 18/19. Most people could not endure so much trauma. And iirc quite a few Hollyoaks characters have either left the village, self-destructed or topped themselves over less. He must be very resilient and almost delusionally hopeful that things will one day stop being so horrible for him.

There are times, nice as he is, that John Paul really pisses me off - he is a perpetual victim. He seems to want to drop his boxers to any man who has problems and will transfer their problems to him.

I don't agree with conversation therapy cuss of the horror stories. I believe that if you're religious person then going solo would be a healthy option then this stuff. But that whatever a person chooses that is between them and their own beliefs.

Great conversion therapy...being hugged by 20 men all at the same time...sounds more like heaven to me.

um...those kinda groups, with the men all hugging on each other, ..do not happen.

For some, homosexual thoughts are really bad because they can never accept having those haunting thoughts in them. Not everyone needs to come to terms with something that goes against their nature.

The dialogue on this show has become so didactic and stagey, not like anything that everyday people would realistically say. It wasn't this badly-written and hard to believe, even ten years ago.

Hopefully Carter and his group can help JP.

​@@vah1761Although this storyline is probably going to upset gay 🏳️‍🌈 viewers of Hollyoaks as American Dee commented, it is actually very important for the scriptwriters to tackle such a storyline, as this has always been the show's strong point. Hollyoaks has always been good as tackling important issues and back when Lysette Anthony was still in the show she praised the writers for the awareness the storylines generate. At least it isn't a repeat storyline as I remember when Hannah Ashworth suffered from anorexia and then they repeated the same storyline with Jason Roscoe, Celine McQueen and her sister Cleo, and then with Imran Mallik. It's the same with the amount of heroin addiction storyline they did. Originally Lucy Benson was the only addict the show had and they did the same storyline with Sasha Valentine and her boyfriend Fletch, as well as with Ste Hay and Donna - Marie Quinn. The mental health storyline with Charlie Dean has already been done with Jake Dean, Kathy Barnes, Cindy Cunningham, Newt and Diane Hutchinson. The amount of storylines repeating is getting repetitive so it maybe not so much time for new scriptwriter but maybe time for a better executive producer as Lucy Allen is finally leaving.

It's too bad Carter is a "baddie" character. David Ames is a brilliant actor (he was great in Holby CIty), and I would've loved to see him in a long-term role in Hollyoaks. That being said, he's killing it as Carter, because I really hate this character!
