Just snagged one of these from a junk yard for my 03 4x4 Silverado. It was a process to take out we'll see how it is to put it back in

How did you get to the bottom bolt without removing the support bracket that it sits on?

where did you get 2 piece drive shaft for that 4x4

yes - this was an exhausting day. didn't realize the audio till people started commenting on it.

What color was the 3rd connector u unplugged and what colors r the wires

The top bolts can be gotten with a 3/8" drive stubby swivel head ratchet and 15mm socket. I used a Pittsburgh. The half inch drive just like it is part number 99671 just so you can see what it looks like. Other brands make the same tool. I had the top three broken loose in under 10 minutes. As the nut comes out and pushes the ratchet out it will hit so just loosen a few turns and you should be able to do the rest with your fingers. 2002 rusty AWD Escalade but no rust on the threads. Only one electrical plug on this transfer case so that was easy and one vent line hook up but I didn't see a line going to it. Wrestle with the front drive shaft and don't drop it on you. Maybe two quarts of tranny fluid came out and you'll probably spill some out of the transfer case when you angle it out.

That thing has more connections than a a 1980's drug dealer. ;-)

How did you get top nuts and bolts on transfer case without removing torsion bar crossmember

U skipped removal of the transfer case. Im in process of removing trans 97 tahoe. Cross member and trans mount unbolted but notice 2 inch only clearance btwn transfer case and torsion crosss member. At this point i dont see how tranfer case could clear torsion cross member bc yoke portion of transfer case nearly strattles the torsion cross member. Does that cross member have to be removed?

Where did you get that transmission Jack? I'm gunna be doing this in the next couple weeks and have been debating on the best way to drop the transmission. Also have been following you since the engine rebuild days. Good stuff!

Paint marker,but they will only go back to the mounts one way.

Can you drop the transfer case without taking the transmission out?

Definitely just have to let trans hang down and turn transfer case sideways as the studs will touch the rear of the trans.

I use to enjoy working on my one van but after back surgery, I have problems crawling under it. lol

Broke mine in March in three spots, currently dropping my transmission and transfer in my 03 Silverado, not fun crawling around under there in the snowy ass driveway definitely have my fair share of problems hope to have my own carlift soon enough honestly

Steve's 5 C's it just skipped it, you have a ton of information that has been really helping me so thank you. Not trying to complain man, just saying I searched all through this video and others just so I could see that. Your video made me think I was missing something simply because you didn't show it making me think, ah must just detach when it's all unbolted. Also the separation of trans and motor would have been nice. One of my pins was stuck in the trans other stayed in the motor, I ratchet strapped from the bumper and pryed them apart with a big prybar... Either way great videos and thank you so much. I wouldn't have even tried this without your help.

I used the floor jack underneath the transfer case and gently jacked it up and down a few times. The seal broke free in a couple seconds and i was able to move the case with my hands at that point.

Should of had two vent hoses?

it has a vent hose on the driver's side that runs up to behind the intake manifold of the engine. The Transmission has another breather hose that runs up to the same bracket behind the intake manifold, it also has a "T" and that serves as the overflow hose that goes down the transmission and terminate above the transfer case with no check valve at the end.

So let me get this straight you unplug a few plugs and then wallah like Houdini all the bolts just magically unbolt themselves and the transfer case appears on the ground wrapped up in plastic? I need to learn that spell GTFOH 😂😂😂 you didn't show shit

I cringe when people show 26 minutes of them unbolting stuff in real time. I try to cut the fat and just leave in things that might be tricky. Unbolting the bolts on the TC is easy. Now, bell-housing bolts, that's another story.
