OMG!! I don't know how to thank you. My file extension changed from .sas to .pdf and I spent over 2hrs trying to fix it, all to no avail. I came across two other videos that took me down the registry editor path, which didn't work either! not sure if ill get help here, but ill try. i accidentally made all .rif files open with corel painter essentials 7 by having the box checked when i chose to open with corel painter, which isnt a problem but the thumbnails of the files went from the art themselves to just the icon for the app, which is not what i want and i want to switch it back. Does this work with .rif files so i can get my art thumbnails back? or do i have to do something else because I would like the thumbnails back instead of the corel painter icon. thanks edit: also, if i switch the file association to notepad, then go through this process of making the fake file and deleting it, does it go back to using Corel painter? how can i get my thumbnails back? this isn't really a usability issue, i can open the art just fine in corel painter, i just do not want it associated with it so i can maybe get the thumbnails back instead of the app icon in my file list

I've followed the necessary instructions to complete this, but It didn't work. I get a message stating "This app can't run on your pc" I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, or if this doesn't have an affect on .json files.

Well, it doesnt work when i create shortcut of a game it still have that white paper icon and if i choose the correct opening app it will appear in every shortcuts i make so if i make a shortcut of Skyrim game and Fallout 4 it will have opening program for Skyrim. and then if i start fallout 4 it opens Skyrim. I need to know to reset whole shortcuts and make them default to open games with their starting program not the same.

I have wasted my 2 days in this and in end only this worked for me. Thank you so much for this video. Watched some other videos also but as in IT Company everything is restricted or needs admin credentials it works easily.

oh my gosh....I have followed your instructions, up to the end where on the blue screen the message says "this app can't run on your pc"....I clicked on it and then restarted my laptop....but now when I download a doc, It can not be found. what did I do wrong????? did I mess up my laptop????? Thank you! It was driving me nuts. I tried looking in the registry, found it, but couldn't delete it! I also tried looking in gpedit, tried via PowerShell, nothing worked. But you method actually did the trick :)

Thank you I did that to powerpoint files . I unfortunately applied " open with internet explorer." I got it fixed like in the video. But now i wonder ,if i download the PowerPoint application in my pc , will PowerPoint be able to read the file? I know next to nothing when it comes to that kind of thing
