Remote Work Success Secrets: Expert Tips from Marco Baratto

Фильм және анимация

It’s no longer a new discovery: COVID-19 has changed the structure of working remotely. With that came some unexpected perks: A lot of artists were able to prioritize their family life while pursuing a lifestyle they want. We no longer need to reside in expensive cities like LA, New York or Vancouver. We can do our work from anywhere!
It’s really cool to hear Senior Compositor and VFX Supervisor Marco Baratto talk about his personal experience of working remotely and the discoveries that followed.
With 10+ years of VFX industry experience, Marco is more than ever interested in being an integral part of it through compositing and creative leadership. An understanding of light, color and composition are essential to his approach. His additional interests include photography, concept art, cinema and mathematics.
His most recent credit is the role of a Digital Artist in Christopher Nolan’s OPPENHEIMER. His other credits include EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
This is a slightly more personal talk on behalf of Marco, but I feel that it applies to anyone! As VFX artists, we can now be employed by big studios all over the world - but also strive to achieve a better life / work balance.
Check out this brief career talk and let me know what you think!

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, the paradigm of remote work has been changing ever so rapidly. Nowadays, you no longer need to relocate to an expensive city like LA or NYC in order to have access to the big VFX houses or your dream jobs. Nowadays -- you can work from anywhere! And it's the best space from which to grow your career. I'd love to hear what you think about this subject though, and what your experience with remote work has been. So please leave me a comment below!

It happened the same to me. When I was in my 20's, I just looked at my belly button. It was all about me, my professional development and my ambitions. Once I reached my 30's and beyond, suddenly the most important thing was my nephew, watch him grow and having memories together. My partner, my friends, my family... It's cold out there. It suddenly becomes so hard to be sorounded by people who actually don't know me and that naturally don't care about me. Every day. On a city or country where I don't know anyone. And to think that the studios ask that from me: just move from one place to another. I can't do that anymore. So remote work becomes the only reason why I'm still working on this industry. Everyone is different though.
