    I don't know if you know this but that line from Cap about Tony being a futurist is pretty goddamn smart. Futurism is an Italian art and social movement, one that is mostly about modernising, yes, but it has an incredibly dark underbelly because Futurism became synonymous with Italian fascism in its later periods. Futurism wasn't only about modernisation it was specifically about taking a break from traditional values. The movement's aesthetic principles became intertwined with the political goals of fascism, emphasizing violence and destruction. so a lot of later Futurism art is actually Italian fascist propaganda, I mean a lot of them literally have Mussolini's face plastered on it. So of course when Captain America, the poster child for fighting against fascism, reads about Tony being a futurist and IMMEDIATELY has a problem with it.

  • @NerdilyDone

    @NerdilyDone

    3 ай бұрын

    I appreciate this comment. I especially like how you distinguish facism from conservatism. Conservatism IS traditionalism, varying per country because all countries don't have the same traditions. Fascism is a form of socialism, and socialism, particularly as it was manifested in the 20th century, is modernism, or at least the vigorous pursuit of what it believes to be modernism.

    Tony's "I'm a futurist" tirade made him really annoying as far as I'm concerned. Like, the dude was genuinely distraught that a future man's technology from the future is much more advanced than his from the present, sending him into a spiral because "he's a futurist, he's supposed to look to the future and make it" and it feels like the show wants us to sympathise with him. When to me, that just makes me think that Tony is a whinny little btch with the most first world problem a trust fund baby billionaire like him can have: not being the smartest man in the room or able to comprehend future technology

    And that's something a lot of people don't understand. Taking a look at the epsiode where Tony, Steve, and Thor are nerfed by Loki and the Enchantress we see that not only do they revert Tony's armor to MK-I they also cloud his brain to the point he can't operate the armor. It makes a point in reminding us that Tony is as much his mind as his suit. Afterall, the man did build the OG suit in a cave while hooked up to a battery to keep him alive (depending on the version).

    The dichotomy of Captain America and Iron Man is "looking to the past" and "looking to the future", and when they converge it SHOULD be both of them coming together to look at the present. I feel like that's what the MCU seems to forget a lot. Not to mention the difference between DC and Marvel is "gods trying to be human" and "humans trying to be gods" which are both insanely good ideas. I like the IDEA of superheroes, which is why I love your channel, because I don't have to go through several hours of content. Just short 10-30 minute bursts of info.

    As a guy with a BA in Drama Studies, I love the fact that they brought Cap's art school background into this. For those unaware, Futurism was an artistic movement started in Italy in the early 20th century. It was based around creating art that was forward thinking making projects about industry and technology instead of nature and myth as was the general custom. Unfortunately, many futurists ended up becoming fascists and supporting Mussolini.

    EMH Black Panther is better than MCU Panther. No disrespect to Chadwick intended, but yeah; T’Challa should have been a FOUNDING MEMBER of The Avengers in the MCU, not a side character who’s entire plot could’ve been saved for the first movie’s plot instead. That’s all I’ll say for now, but if Shady ever covers a Panther episode, I’ll gladly continue.

    I don't know about founding. He does come along very quickly, and is a far more consistent member than even some founders (particularly Ant-Man and Hulk). I also like the idea that he's really smart and wise relative to the rest of the Avengers, but by the standards of his own people, he's just a "panther cub", young and impetuous with a lot to learn. This isn't some informed flaw that only pops up in character focus episodes. Most notable on occasions where he trolls Hawkeye, preventing him from appearing boring or obnoxiously perfect.

    This and Ultimate Spider-Man, begrudgingly so with the last one, for the last two good Marvel cartoons. The people behind this show were smarter then others in not simply portraying Hulk closer to how he originally was in the comics before going Savage, not simply due to the fact they were using the original Avengers lineup, but actually having him and Robert interact with each other in a way that brilliantly shows off Hulk's ability to see spirits. The Superhero Squad show was the only other time that power was ever seen outside the books

The animation, the stories, the voice cast and of course, the characters were done far better justice than the MCU did. Thor wasn't an "inter-dimensional space alien," Stark was...slightly more likeable, the villains were far more diverse, Wakanda wasn't some sci-fi nightmare, Asgard was something beautiful (like something out of a D&D campain,) Hulk was more appealing and above all, Cap behaved more like an honorable soldier than Chris Evans' version did. This episode is proof of that

We never learned what happened to her subsequent to her mind control. Even Surtr was teased as the next major threat only for the series to end with the heroes banishing Galactus to an alternate realm. In my opinion it was incredible but suffered quite a bit. This is a perfect example of how Cap and Iron Man have different values, but they share the same ideals. Tony is a very idealized version of late-stage capitalism. That being, despite his capital ownership being high to the point of absurdity, his morals and lessons revolve around being worthy of owning his assets as well as using them as a means and not an end. Meanwhile, Steve is an idealized version of traditional American values. That being a hard-working humble man whose motives align strictly around doing the right thing for its own sake. Despite both of them being on near opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of how they view the world, what makes them such strong friends and allies is their agreed sense of duty and morality. Something that Civil War irreperably damaged regarding the characters.

    (*squeal*) He's doing it! He's doing it! EMH! I _really_ get what you mean about the super-tight serialization. Especially when you tend to focus on individual messages, which are more conveyed through story arcs that weave in and out of individual episodes (more like an anime, actually), so it can be hard to find something with a good payoff. The "Gamma World" two-parter is an excellent example, serving as a conclusion to Hulk's early arc of coming to trust Banner and the Avengers. Arguably the entire first _season_ is a Thor arc. Honestly I heavily prefer this method, as it holds up better to binge-watching than DC, which can sometimes feel atomized and disconnected, in part creating the "Ditch Continuity" joke. Also, the "lessons" are more for the characters themselves, with their real life applicability being fairly limited or personal. Others that might fit your style include Panther's Quest, Powerless, Behold the Vision, Yellowjacket, Private War of Doctor Doom (especially since Doctor Doom gets _so few_ good adaptations, and this is one of them), and arguably the best episode of the series, Prisoner of War.

Hank and Janet's conflicting ways about where they stand on how to be on the team and admitting their feelings, Clint and Hawkeye's bromance, Ultron actually being threat, Amora as well.. gosh this show is so freaking good. Rewatched it so many times. If they brought this show back i don't want it because i feel like its going to be Avengers Assembled 2.0 and that only had two good seasons. Too MCUiefed. I was dead set I’m becoming either a veterinarian or a robotic engineer I decided I’m gonna be a robotic engineer for a while, and then start up my own model kit business because that’s really what I wanna do and thanks to your king of the hill videos. I’ve learned how to do that better and once you’re not a professional and I probably shouldn’t take everything you say to her I’m done you do sound like you know a lot. Thank you.

    I'm so glad the first show from Marvel you reviewed was this, Avengers Assemble is honestly underrated as a show.

    I remember watching this show as a kid, but I remember very little about it. I think I'm gonna try and watch it again.

    nice review. Strongly disagree on your thoughts on Chris Evans as Cap, but I can respect your opinion. Hope to see more reviews from this show later on
