Remembering Mac Davis
Музыка
Mac Davis, the legendary country-music artist and songwriter behind some of Elvis Presley’s most iconic songs, passed away on September 29, 2020.
He was a dear friend to Graceland, and we were honored to have him as our guest at Elvis Week in 2015 and 2017. During Elvis Week 2017, he was part of our Songwriters Showcase where he shared the story of writing “Memories” for Elvis and sang the song for the audience.
He’s perhaps best known from writing hits "A Little Less Conversation" and "In The Ghetto" for Elvis. Born Morris Mac Davis, he made his debut as a country music artist with his 1970 album "Song Painter." His breakthrough album "Baby, Don't Get Hooked On Me" was released two years later. His hits include "Stop and Smell the Roses" and "One Hell of a Woman," among others.
Mac was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998, inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000 and the national Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2013, he topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart as co-writer on Avicii's "Addicted to You."
Davis also found success as a television personality and actor. He hosted his own variety series "The Mac Davis Show" on NBC from 1974 to 1976 and also starred movies such as "North Dallas Forty," "Beer For My Horses" and "Where The Fast Lane Ends."

I didn't know that happened 2 months ago. I don't watch the news often and missed reading about it. I have so many childhood memories that include his music. To this day, "Who Ever Finds This" I cry. My cousins used to laugh and call me a crybaby every time but that song just hit my heart every time.
Eddie Rabbitt and Mac Davis wrote big hits for Elvis...Rest in peace all three!!!!

Oh, but countrygirl countrymusiclover1127, I am sorry to have to chime in on your comment here, but!! FOR YOU TO SAY : "That EDDIE RABBIT is the only LEGEND in the three names mentioned" (those being; ELVIS, MAC DAVIS, & EDDIE RABBIT) Girl, you Can't be a COUNTRY MUSIC LOVER NOR A MUSIC LOVER OF ANY KIND for you to exclude ELVIS and MAC DAVIS !! I agree EDDIE RABBIT had some great songs/hits in the '80s & '90s, BUT put his career side by side to either ELVIS'S or MAC'S, even with EDDIE'S 'other works' included, and there's NO COMPARISON!! I don't know what you've been listening to all your life but it sure can't be the same ELVIS, MAC DAVIS, KENNY ROGERS, GLEN CAMPBELL, ETC., ETC. that I have listened to ALL my 60 yrs of life on COUNTRY MUSIC, POP, SOFT POP, LIGHT POP, GOSPEL, LIGHT JAZZ POPULAR RADIO STATIONS and TV STATIONS!! BUT HEY...."To each , their own!" Just don't ignore or misuse the "definition" of a word like LEGEND!! 🙅♀️🤦♀️🙈😿😖
My heart broke a little when l saw earlier today that Mac had died. As a teen, l fell a little bit in love with him when he hosted his variety show.

Joy Shepard I found out yesterday through Google that Buddy Holly graduated in 1955 and through my great aunt (my grandma’s baby sister) I found out that my grandmother graduated in 1957 and Mac Davis graduated in 1958 at the age of 16. So it’s definitely possible that the 4 of them could’ve bumped into each other back then and had conversations from time to time.

Omg, I mean no disrespect but when I glanced at your name I thought it was bucktooth fangirl. Lol after I already had scrolled past it I was thinking how strong willed you must be to accept the fact you are bucktooth..... Im picturing the straw hat, hee haw coveralls look with 2 gigantic front teeth that are possibly yellow stained. Then I just had to go back and see if a picture accompanied your post. Thats when I saw the buckeye not bucktooth. Im sorry, but I sure got a kick out of my blindness. Happy trails!
I will always remember you as my hero. I sang your songs when I was young
RIP to both Elvis Presley and Mac Davis
Your music will always live on!! Thanks Mac!!
I didn't know he passed away. :( Rest easy, sir. I loved A Little less Conversation and In the Ghetto as well.
One of the best. RIP Mac Davis.
I really really love this. I love the alternate lyrics that was written. Wish Elvis could have done a full version of this song. It'd been great....
Had dinner with Mac and his band many years ago .. what you see is what he was ..kindest, sweetest, funny, gentle man...RIP! :(

Rest in Peace Mac -- you had great music
Loved Mac Davis's songs. RIP.
Another legend gone. Singing with Elvis now
May you rest in the arms of the Angels Mac!
Mac had a TV show for a while. The best part is a section where he would ask audience members for a phrase to write a short song with, right on the spot. He would often take a simple phrase and turn it around to mean something unexpected. It was clever, funny, sometimes brilliant. What a great talent. You will be missed, Mac Davis.
A real Texas gem! He's back home in Lubbock! RIP Mac, sweet memories!
Beautiful song. Mac such a legend a very sad loss.

Love this song. Crying. While listening. Like the verses I never heard before. RIP
For some reason I was thinking of him over the summer, and Helen Reddy too, they were all over the seventies. I admired him for him and also that he wrote In the Ghetto, but there were so many others I discover here. Singers/songwriters of this quality don't come along so often so Mac we cherish you forever.

On his TV show he would often end by sitting on a stool taking requests for impromptu songs based on a word or phrase. He was always great.
