    Hi guys. Yes, I misspelled the "luxury" in the swatches. I stand corrected, and I'm sorry. ☺️ Also, this is a reuplaoded video, you're not having dejavu. The one I uploaded an hour ago had some troubles for some reason and came 'unavailable' to most of my subscribers.. thanks E Lois for letting me know. well,.. 😉

    The difference between the Vang Gogh line and the Rembrandt line is that the one completes the other and both lines have the same code numbers for the same colours. Both f.e the Rembrandt and Van Gogh Vermillion have the code number 311. B. Sienna is 411 in both lines. And each line has some colours that the other one doesn't have. But even if they have the same code number the same colours don't have necessarily the same hue.The Rembrandt B. Sienna is slightly darker and cooler than the Van Gogh one. So you can have different options when you choose a colour. There is a video somewhere here on youtube where they made a side by side comparison of these two lines. ( but I have to search to find it). Anyway... whatever is the case I use these watercolours ( both V.G and Rembrandt ) for countless years because they are reliable and lightfast. I've never had a lightfastness problem with both these lines of watercolours. And they are fantastic on layering too. You just have to practice on how to use them as you should with all art materials that each and everyone of them has its own way to use. But the thing that saves the day with Talens colours is that they are reliable. It is the same thing, they don't change something so drastically in order to lose the plot as it happens very often with other brands. The quality for instance of W&N watercolours changes from year to year depending probably on where they move the production. Because I'm certain that they don't make all their products on the same factory and they don't have the same quality standards even though they claim that their paints are professional etc.

    Thank you for sharing these information. I've personally obsered some of these too and i agree. I love vangogh and rembrant for their character. They're easy to activate and dependable. Although some artists say they're chalky etall, i think most of the time, it just depends on how you use it and hoe familiar with the brand and medium. I would like to explore more of Rembrandt as currently , ive only tried the 12pan set. I also understand that despite vangogh being a higher end student grade, has noticeably high price comparable to some artist grades like white nights.. one reason i see is the production quality cost being them made in Netherlands.. in contrast to Winsor and Newton where their Cotman line is made in China. It affects their consistency and oftentimes their image.

    @@AllanJayQuesada I use some very specific colours from Rembrandt line and a good number of the Van Gogh ones. The Rembrandt ones are by far more expensive than Van Gogh and in some cases way more expensive than other professional quality colours from other brands. But I haven't noticed any chalkiness on any of these lines though some of the colours ( in both lines) are more opaque than others. But chalkiness and opaqueness are not the same thing. As I've explained on another comment what we consider as chalkiness on watercolour it has to do with the amount of Gum Arabic that a watercolour paint has. It is the Gum Arabic that makes the/any pigment of any watercolour to stick.bind on the paper. If there is not enough Gum Arabic then the particles of the pigment will come off the paper and will stick to your fingers, napkin etc. And on that ratio of pigment to Gum Arabic we have to add the size of the particles of each pigment. A pigment with large size of particles will not get easily absorbed into the fibers of the paper and will either granulate or will come off the paper. ( if there is not enough Gum Arabic into its mix). Winsor & Newton used to be the "industry" standard but it is not anymore. I have encountered over the years whatever problems one can imagine. Half empty tubes, colours that separate from the binder, colours that shrink into the pans, colours that are weak and as a consequence don't last that long. I don't use the Cotman line because it is of lesser quality of the Van Gogh ones. And here is another thing that I've notice. That Van Gogh and Daniel Smith lines are of about the same quality. The only difference between these two lines is that Daniel Smith offers a larger range of colours. But the quality between these two lines is about the same. I had made at some point a side by side comparison between the same colours from both lines that proved this. They have similar coverage, similar pigmentation, similar vibrancy, and V.G colours were in some cases more lightfast than the D.S ones. Talking always about colours that had the same pigments.

    Check the charts on their website as some of the paints are identical, both in ingredients and swatches. There's no point paying 2 to 3 times as much for the exact same thing. Have a look at White Nights and Roman Szmal if you're wanting to move into professional paints though. They do full pans for less than Rembrandt half pans and they both have far more single pigment paints. They wouldn't fit in your little plastic Van Gogh boxes but metal tins for full pans aren't particularly expensive and White Nights sell their own in a unique colour.

It seems like while the van gogh has comparable pigmentation there is something "off" with the texture.. like it has a formed a film or haziness? I don't want to say chalky, but less transparent?

    Rembrandt watercolour paints are one of my favourite brands as a vegan. Based in the EU so they are actually reasonably priced. These paints are vegan-friendly except for 1 or 2 of the paints, which suits me very well. They work well with my vegan-friendly watercolour papers: Fabriano Artistico, Hahnemühle Expression. I have Van Gogh paints too and they are fine for limited water paintings but it is worth investing in the Rembrandt paints if they are reasonably priced. Thanks for the review and for the demo!!

    I love Rembrandt too, but theyre quite expensive here, almost like Schmincke and there is only one seller of it here. Sometimes, I dream of migrating to Europe because of these beautiful paints there, from Schmincke, to W&N, to Maimeri, to Rembrandt, to Roman Szmal to Sennelier.. like every country has their own bet. hehe. which brands by the way are not vegan?

  • @justacatwhocantype

    @justacatwhocantype

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, the paints are vegan, but unfortunately, if you want to avoid animal products, you have to buy them all individually, as their sets all seem to contain a sable brush. This is really upsetting to me, as buying a set would obviously be much more affordable than having to get single colors. But while I am not 100% strict when it comes to animal ingredients like honey or even ox gall (since nobody is crazy enough to kill a whole ox just for the gall, ya know..) I refuse to buy any sable or squirrel brushes, knowing that these animals die horrible deaths exclusively for their hair.

  • @justacatwhocantype

    @justacatwhocantype

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@AllanJayQuesada Brands that are not vegan are Schmincke Horadam and Winsor and Newton Pro , as they add ox gall to all of their paints. Sennelier, White Nights and M Graham are also non-vegan because of the honey that they contain. I am sure that there are other non-vegan watercolors, but these are the ones that come to my mind right now.

    Hi, Ariana. I'm sorry to learn that you're stranded.. I don't know if you've seen my Camlin Paints review, which is from India. I think it's great and really cheap. But based on others' reviews, the tubes are better than their pans.. and i ve only tried the tubes so cant really tell the difference. Anyways, if you are looking for paints the rewet easily, i would agree that Rembrandt and even VanGogh are acing that game. White nights rewet easily too as they're semi moist.. but there's just really something super smooth and buttery with Rembrandt and VanGogh.. and it kinda reminds of Schmincke too. What's great about white nights is that they come on full pans, so that is really safer for your brush. ☺️

They're really susceptible. But the rest, they're fine. I believe if you atleast keep them open atleast once in week, they won't get molds. Or put them in a box with dehumidifier pack. 😁 What I'm actually more concerned about are the insects. They pester VanGogh, schmincke and Prang and might pester Rembrandt as well as they're in same makers as VanGogh.. my solution to that is to put moth balls in their box. 😁
