Good job! But a little more time, thorough cleaning, silver paint and it would have been beautiful calipers.

That's a really good suggestion and would have been worth the extra effort. At the time, I was in a hurry to get the car back on the road. I had to call off work because the brakes were locked up so bad :/

I did this work on an E87 today. At first, I found it super hard to get the rubber bellows on properly, until I watched this video (at 9.50). I can add that applying the lube in the cylinder only, and not on the piston, made it easier to get the bellows in place. Thanks!

I tried installing reinstalling, but my brake caliper cilinder won't go in easy, I had to push it on with other things then hands and I lubed it up cilinder size is right and its a new cilinder, all rubbers are in place checked multiple times everything is right, but still won't go in easy, should I just keep it that way? but why I changed it in a first place because it was getting stuck, could it be anything else then that? but it seems like it cannot be anything else.

Sounds like the caliper has rust round the bore for the cylinder that has made its diameter slightly smaller. If that's the case you could try cleaning it off with steel wool or sandpaper, maybe a Dremel if you can get it in there but dont make the bore bigger than it should be. And no, I would not reassemble it the way it is because it will just get stuck again. Hope that helps.

@@EndlessMoneyPits I turned it to the sides a bit with pliers and cilinder was way smoother, probably rubber was stuck inside a bit or something like that.

I have one that needs rebuilding and wasn't to sure if i just needed the rubbers or also if i need the piston. Was this work what you done on your worst caliper ie the hottest reading one? As a few mentioned grest step by step guild, given me more confidence to tackle the job. Thanks again.

No, it looks like I did not film repairing the worst caliper. I do believe the piston in the worst caliper did have the most pitting of all but it's been 3 years since I uploaded this video and all the brakes are still working great.

Great video and I might have missed it but is this a 325 or 330? I have probably had the worst luck with brakes my 325xi been through multiple calipers now I'm on a 3:30 and I'm experiencing the same exact problems... I just want to rebuild mine myself at this point

Thank you. My car is a 2000 328i. The "rebuilt" calipers I bought for it were worse than the originals, which I should have kept. Sorry you're going through it again. This procedure takes a long time but should get your brakes working like new. I haven't had any trouble with mine since filming this video. Good luck!

Good job. Has this locked up again on you? That piston looks pretty rough but I’m sure it’s fine temporarily. I would have opted for a new one.

All four brakes have been working flawlessly since I rebuilt them for this video. I agree, the pistons didn't look very good but it's really only the outer portion that is exposed to the elements. New pistons would be good for peace of mind but I haven't had any problems here.

Just drove the car. Ten minutes after parking I remembered to check the temperatures. All four brake rotors were between 83 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit. They would have cooled down a little over the last 10 minutes so I would guess all four were closer to 120 after a spirited 30 minute drive. Ambient temperature right now is about 67.
