In this video I show you how to rebuild some brake calipers. So easy a caveman could do it. These are the Tundra 13WL 231mm calipers that are a direct swap for 3rd Gen 4Runners

Awesome tutorial. Working on airplane landing gears years ago, I learned to use brass picks for removing seals, O-rings. Brass is softer than steel and it won’t scratch it. Thanks for a great video.

Had to do the same with C-17 brake piston seals (really any seal from an actuator)
Thanks for the well done video. You talk about every step and I appreciate that. So often mechanics assume that others understand small steps. If I don’t watch every step that I do in a job and understand it, I screw up ! Really well done video
Getting them soda blasted is probably the best cleaning method I have come across . No damage to any parts,no grit and no etching of the surfaces.
Thanks for the video Speedy. You did a great job explaining all the steps.

Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a lot , great video, helped me greatly , good basic instructions and no talking unnecessarily . Colin Australia
I asked my mechanic to do it and he said it was too time consuming. Since it was for my son't truck and he said the fronts were still in good shape I didn't insist, but one day I'm doing this. Awesome video!!!
Just one tiny square-cut gasket keeping you safely stoppable. Gotta love it.
This is how you do a brake Caliper rebuild. Clean, simple and straight forward job. Congrats.
Excellent video. Very detailed. I have never rebuilt a caliper but now feel absolutely confident in tackling this project. You saved me a butt load of money. Well done sir. Thank you.
Your "How To" instruction is spot on. Great tutorial for the DIYer. Great job.
One of the best "accurate" explanations I've seen in some time, good job! Appreciated!
Thanks for putting this out. You walked me through it yesterday without a hitch.
Nice commentary, straight to the point, nice tips on what to/not do, I have a 2001 Sequoia 4wd, so, this was a perfect video! Nice production, the white light was perfect for showing the internal square seal. Like the tip on holding a rag over the tip of the compressed nozel!
10 out of 10 - Well done Fella - Great video - you do everything spot on as I would - it will help others I am sure
SUPERB, ABSOLUTELY SUPERB JOB FOR SHOWING A 4 POT CALIPER REBUILD!!!
I don't own a toyota but I imagine that these instructions cover most caliper rebuilds. Great Jog, Great video angles, nice and clear. Thank you so much!
Much help. Only thing i add is a 12v air pump to shoot the pistons out. I have 2 tiny o rings with my kit. Assuming they are for the bleed valve to cover since kit didn't have like yours did. But overall pretty painless (except for a thumb) TY!
Really nice, concise, clear and CORRECT rebuilding video, thanks!
I wanted to sand blast and paint my calipers professionally, but I knew I needed a kit to rebuild them. After seeing this, I'll just use the wire brush like you did and rebuild them. Then I'll have them painted! Thank you very much for this!
Great video!!! You've made it look very easy for any DIYers.
I just picked up a set of these calipers off a salvaged Sequoia. No rust and only $20 each from pickyourpart! Thank you for your videos.

Man u made this thing look so easy n professional i had to subscribe! Open a school, i'll be a student lol
Awesome video. Very thorough and simplified for the layman DIYer doing it on their own. Great job.
Truly a great video - you really explain things so well and it is natural to you. Now I feel a bit more confident.
Thanks for the very clear instruction, will do this for my sequoia. Excellent job!
I got mine today for $13.99 each! Now to clean em up/rebuild and fit to the 4runner.... can't wait!
Excellent video. Good lighting, crisp image and your narration is great. I especially like the parts when you say this is what your looking for. That helps us to know what the finished point of repair should look like. Well done.
Thank you so much for doing this video. Something I have been looking for and here it is!
Best DIY video I've ever seen. Thank you.
Great video and very detailed. But i must say, those are the cleanest set of calipers ive ever seen that need rebuilding! Dust boots, square cut seals and pistons were all in amazing shape...
Thank you for uploading this, I had some questions regarding the process and all of them were answered in the video. I'm about to rebuild toyota calipers for a 1992 land cruiser.
Came here because I am rebuilding the calipers of my 4runner. Wish me luck.

It's easy, just take your time.
Speedy, thanks for the great, detailed tutorial. Really impressed by the quality of the editing too. I'm building 199mm calipers right now (too hard to find 231mms from a non-front end damaged vehicle for a *reasonable* price). I believe something you should emphasize that wasn't in your vid is at 7:30: you appeared to have C-clamped three of the almost seated pistons to get out the 4th one. That was escaping me for about 20 mins while doing the job last night :)
Really awesome video. I rebuilt mine on my Toyota a few years back. It feels great to do this job yourself because it's so easy. The satisfaction you get knowing you rebuilt them yourself is satisfying! Toyota caliper rebuilt kits are awesome too. Comes with everything you need to do the job right. You should have a follow up with painting. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you about the satisfaction of doing a job well yourself. I also am leery of rebuilt calipers that you get from a variety of places. I figure if I mess up some times because I don’t check things whoever is rebuilding these has a chance of also messing up. I have more faith in myself than I do in others usually. Also using Toyota parts can guarantee excellent seals and fitting of important pieces. I have used both Toyota parts and cheap knock off’s… When I can afford the Toyota parts I always get them or if it’s for something like this, a brake job or your life depends on the parts and the work. 'Muy importante !
Just rebuild 95 Tacoma this morning using your video, grease didn't come with the kit I just use brake fluid work just fine, thank you very much
Thanks! Nicely done - very informative! The Tundra calipers are amazingly similar to my 65 Mustang Kelsey-Hayes 4-pistons!
Great video. I am getting ready to do my mazda 5 and your video, and the one I found on the 5 , gives me confidence to do it.
Doing it correct the first time makes all the difference in the world!
Excellent video, Parts on the way and weekend project lined up- thank you very much for the effort and time to put this together!!

I go to my mechanic friend almost every year to put on a new caliper and we always have same argument. He tells me to just buy a new caliper rather than refurb these myself. But damn $60 per caliper (includes shipping) sure adds up over the years. Never knew how technically simplistic this process was! Even if this whole process takes 2 hours for 4 pistons. Rebuild kit is $25. $60 - $25 = $35. $35/2 = $17.50 an hour. That's a fairly good savings for most of us. Plus, you have the personal satisfaction and piece of mind knowing you did this professionally. So yea - this project can well be worth the trouble of doing. Your video was uncomplicated, you showed great detail where needed, and you pointed out any hazzards along the way. Great job! I know I just subscribed!!!

Most calipers you get half your money back as core charge.. you really only save 10 bucks by rebuilding them unless you pay someone to put them on then it costs more.. I rebuild mostly cuz it's fun and satisfying

Now days these are $300 each for a rebuild. The days of doing this yourself have returned.
Great video. Thanks for the detailed instructions. Going to rebuild mine next weekend.
This video was Great! Looking forward to giving this a try now after watching this!
Best video on this by far, thanks!
Teaching is your thing . Excellent
Great video thanks for making.
Good, well presented and informative video. I now feel comfortable to renovate my Land Rover Defender 90 Callipers. Thank you Speedy, Paul, England, UK
Thank you for this video! I'm considering this upgrade.
Fantastic work dude! Appreciate it!
Fantastic video!, been looking for information about rebuilding the calipers on my '94 Hilux Surf and this is just the job!, great upload!
Thanks a lot, It was so descriptive and helpful.
Great video to watch before i will rebuild my subaru gc8 brakes 😁
Nice. Give love 4 runner!!!
Great filming, good pointers, and all around excellent video.
thanks Speedy's Garage, awesome video, very helpful. thanks
Badass vid bro 🗯
awesome video! I will almost never ever buy a pair of calipers again. This will save me a good 100 bucks on my brake job I will be doing over the weekend. I need to put new pads on the front of my 2007 Ram 1500 I need rotors pads, and I am going to rebuild the calipers. TY!
Great video, man. I'm rebuilding the calipers in my FJ.
Great detailed video mate!
Very nice video on 4 piston calipers, thank you!
Thank you so much! Great and detailed video, i was little bit not sure buying used calipers and renewing new but thanks to you i see its just a piece of cake, well time consuming piece of cake :)
Outstanding video thanks for posting this.
You got some good music going on in the background there.
Great Video. needed to know how the retaining ring went on. Thank you
Very impressed with video! Amazing job! Very helpful!
Thanks for posting this. I’m hoping it’s the same procedure for my 2010 4Runner.
Very Easy To Follow Step By Step Guide How To Save Your Self A Bucket Full Of Money Thanks.. Awesome Video Highly Recommended
What a great video! You are a good teacher.
Found yourself some nice brake calipers there .... great job n good video... Thanks for posting ...... "Cheers" from Canada
Great video. . .good detail and explanation.
I blasted mine with walnut shells, turned out great and did not cause any problems.
Nice job very detailed work
Good video. Covers most things. It pays to separate the two caliper halves when doing this, as the fluid channel "O" ring should also be replaced, and it makes it easier to work on. .
@SpeedysGarage

I "almost" separated the halves when I did the work, but the calipers weren't leaking when I got them off the salvage vehicle and I had visions of them leaking forever if I messed with them. The rebuild kit also did not include any internal seals. 2 years later they've done great, so leaving them together was the right decision in this case, but good to mention for calipers that may be further gone than mine were.

OK. I'm surprised the kit didn't include an "O" ring. They generally don't leak there until very old. I'm currently doing up some Brembo's which are forty years old and one was leaking at the join. Also you can't use a standard "O" ring as the fluid will dissolve it. Must be made of the correct stuff. Bearing suppliers can get them in for you. Cheers Rob

I know this is from three years ago but. Any suggestions on how to bleed the one side before bolting the two sides together? I know that most 4 piston calipers have two bleed valves but this one doesn't . And from experience the one bleeder doesn't work lol.
Doing my 4 pot calipers for my Lexus. Not sure if the same in this vid but sure am confident to get the job done. 👍
Thanks man for really good video!
Fantastic how-to, thank you!!!
Great video. Love the socks lol.
Excellent video! So many of the YT videos on car repair are poor quality and difficult to see what the person is actually doing. This one is very easy to follow!
Amazing job !!! Your video was very helpful !! Well explained with visual instructions 💯 However i did the same job with the same calipers like yours but i found 2 small seals in my rebuild caliper kit and i realized these seals are located between the casting of the calipers from the left to the right ( his function is to seal the passage of the brake fluid from one side to the other one ) . You forget to mention that in that video !!! Otherwise very useful video !! Keep it up !! One more Suscriber !! 🙏🏾
Thanks for the video. It's helping me out with my current project.
Great work!
Well, certainly first time doing this and it worked out great! Been a month since I did it and brakes are firm and working great. I caught it before any cylinders were scored or frozen....but rubber seals were torn some. I used a bike pump with a plastic nozzle to provide compressed air and some clamps to control which cylinders would be pushed out first. Thanks again for a great video

Great instructions; thanks!
That was awesome, thanks.
Good job! Appreciated
Great Job man,... thanks for sharing.
Excelent job and helpful, thanks!
Looks great. Going to attempt this on my xjs. Its developed a caliper leak somewhere. I imagine this leak will make the pistons harder to remove. I don't have a compressed air gun but if i get stuck I will have to go to a garage i guess!
Thanks for this info!
Yes, YERY Helpful, Strait to the point of my question.. Thank you.
Nice the professor has spoken class dismissed I learn something today Thank you sir
Great video. Very well done.
thank you for sharing your knowledge. i like the way you explained this step by step. i am working on a 2000 Jag Vanden Plas, and relized having an air compressor with various tools make a big difference; also its faster work. I am gonna subscribe and look forward to more of your videos. once again thanks for sharing.
great vid buddy it was informative and to the point.
